Our school will participate in SSPA 2009/2010 (applicable for admission to S1 in September 2010)
In 2009, 222 Primary 6 students applied for the 57 discretionary places of the school. In 2010-2011, there are 5 Secondary One classes with a total of 170 places, of which, a maximum of 41 places are reserved for the students of the through-train school, not less than 129 places are open to students from other schools. Among these 129 places, 54 places are reserved as discretionary places. The remaining 75 places are to be distributed by the Central Allocation System.
Admission criteria: academic performance(50%), conduct(25%), extra-curricular activities, services and awards(25%).

1. To prepare Form 1 students for their new school life, a 2-week Summer Bridging Course is held every year, covering life education topics and major academic subjects (i.e. English, Mathematics, and Computer Literacy).
2. Talks for Form 1 students' parents is held in July and August, briefing them on the school policies and the ways to assist their children in adapting to secondary school life. |

There are over 60 activity clubs, in particular, clubs such as the Cross-country Team, Handball Team, the Fencing Team, the Tennis Club, the Squash Club, the Taekwondo Club, the Kickboxing Club, the Jazz Club, the Japanese Club, the Electronics Club, the Computer Game Programming Club, the Home Economics Club, the Gardening Club, the Pet Club, the Personal Finance Club, the Beauty Club, the Circus Club, the Magicians' Club and the Bridge Club are popular with our students. |

| Learning and Teaching Plan |

| (1)Whole-school Language Policy : |
|
1. English is the MOI for the majority of subjects in the English section.
2. To provide more chances for students to use English, Commerce and Home Economics in the Chinese section are also conducted in English.
3. Students will be assigned to either the Chinese section or English section according to their Pre-Secondary English attainment test results and the students / parents’ preferences. Students in the Chinese section can apply to study in the English section when promoted to Secondary 2, 3 or 4.
4. Extended English learning activities will be incorporated into different subjects in the Chinese section to further enhance students’ English ability, and to equip them with the English needed for studying in the English section. |
| (2)Learning & Teaching Strategies : |

1. Lessons are designed to be student-based and interactive; and assignments are diversified.
2. Emphasis has been placed on catering for learner differences; remedial and enhancement measures are taken in this regard.
3. The school was granted $2.8 million from the English Enhancement Scheme to implement various measures to improve our students' English.
4. A diversified NSS curriculum with 13 electives is provided to satisfy the various interests and needs of the students. Both Chinese and English classes are offered in some subjects. All elective subjects are grouped into 3 subject groups which consist of 7 different subjects each. A total of 280 combinations of subjects are available for students’ selection. |

1. There is a school-based Extensive Reading Scheme in which students need to read at least ten books under core reading with the assistance of the subject teachers. Class-based and subject-based reading programmes are encouraged, relating reading to subject knowledge. A personal Reading Portfolio is kept by each student, helping them to monitor their own reading progress. There are morning reading sessions every Tuesday and Thursday, which help establish a good global reading atmosphere.
2. Extensive IT facilities which address every area of the curriculum facilitates interactive learning.
3. Generic skills are cultivated through project learning in different subjects.
4. A comprehensive curriculum was designed for moral education and civic Education, including Taoism Education, ICAN project, Teenage Growth Project, PATHS, to address the needs of students. |

1. There are split groups in the core subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
2. Students are streamed according to their English standard or the average mark of all subjects.
3. There are enhancement and remedial schemes in the English, Chinese and Mathematics departments.
4. Teachers adjust the curriculum and the teaching methods according to students' needs.
5. Tutorial / remedial classes are provided to those students with weak foundation.
6. Various measures are implemented to cater for those students with special educational needs. |
| (2)Curriculum Tailoring and Adaptation for Learning and Assessment : |

One examination is done in each of the two terms, accounting for 80% of the subject total, 20% being continuous assessment. Mid-term assessment is done in each of the two terms. Parents are notified their children's test results, performance in class and assignment through this means. |

Students need to meet the basic requirements in terms of conduct and average marks of all subjects for promotion. |

Close communication with parents is maintained through newsletters, gatherings and joint activities with the Parent-Teacher Association. We aim at developing a close relationship with parents so as to elicit their co-operation and partnership in educating our students and supporting the school events. |

1. Our students are well-mannered and they have been commended by the public for being friendly and amiable; neat and tidy.
2. An ICAN project is implemented to improve the mental qualities of students so that they are able to know themselves better, learning to master themselves and their lives.
3. A Life Skills training programme and a teenage growth project are carried out so as to foster students' holistic development.
4. An 'Academy for the elderly' was established for the implementation of the school-based Service Learning Project. It is hoped that our students can learn to care about their community, being willing to serve and be committed through participating in this project. |

1. Both the passing rate and credit rate of English Language in HKAL 2009 are higher than the average of all schools in the territory. Eight subjects attained a passing rate of 100% in the examination.
2. The school (Boys' division) has been awarded as one of the best ten schools in Tai Po and North District for the past 3 years in the area of sports.
3. A number of scholarships are available, including Mr. & Mrs. W. K. Tong Scholarship (a total of $100,000), awarded to the best performers in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examinations; the Yuen Yuen Institute Scholarship (a total of $50,000), awarded to the high achievers among students and teachers. |
