School's Major Concerns : School aims to:
1. promote the academic performance and enhance self-directed learning;
2. develop STEM programme to enhance students' innovative and logical thinking skills;
3. enrich students' other learning experiences to foster their whole-person development.
Learning and Teaching Plan
Learning & Teaching Strategies : We enhance students' English learning by increasing English curriculum hours, hiring of additional NETs, phonics teaching, reading workshops, English Room, intercultural days, 'My Reading Journey' Reading Award Scheme, online self-learning programme and English reading programme. We enhance students speaking and listening skills through a language-rich environment. Focusing on the learning difficulties, we explicate students' needs and inform teaching through meaningful assessment to strengthen the effectiveness of learning and teaching. We introduce Other Learning Experiences (OLE), overseas excursions to foreign countries and cross-curriculum project.
Development of Key Tasks : Morning reading sessions and reading schemes aim at nurturing students' reading habits. Tablets are used to foster students self-directed learning. Project learning helps develop students generic skills. The school-based ICAN curriculum helps nurture students' positive thinking, and enhance their mental quality for an active and optimistic life style.
Development of Generic Skills : The generic skills are nurtured and developed through the school-based leadership programme, level committee, self-learning curriculum, learning activities, extra-curricular activities and project learning.
Promotion of Positive Values and Attitudes : The school implements "Leadership Training Course", "ICAN Whole Person Development" and "Invitational Education" to cultivate students' positive thinking and improve their psychological quality. The elements of moral education and civic education are also incorporated in our Chinese, English, Mathematics and General Studies subjects. They cooperate with other related learning experiences to cultivate positive values and attitudes of students.
Student Support
Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity : There are remedial classes, after-school tutorials and supplementary classes to cater for individual differences.
Whole School Approach to Integrated Education : Relevant funding is deployed to support students with special education needs.
Curriculum Tailoring and Adaptation : We cater for learner diversity through groupings and graded assignment. We devise transition programmes in collaboration with kindergartens and secondary schools in the vicinity to foster students' early adaptation to the new learning stages. To tie in with the principles of the Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guideline 2017, our P.1 students finish homework at school to ready their subsequent completion of homework at home, and there are no internal assessments in P.1. Bridging courses are provided for P.6 students in order to get them prepared for the secondary school learning environment.
Home-school Co-operation and School Ethos
Home-School Co-operation : We are a welcoming school to invite parents to enjoy school life with children. We have a school voluntary team with over 600 parents. We achieved the 1st runner up of "School with Heart Award" School Project. The parent voluntary team gives fully support to school functions and events, including swimming gala, picnic, celebration and excursions. Parents and the school form a partnership. Parenting Workshops are conducted to enhance positive attitude of parents and improve the parent-child relationship.
School Ethos : We believe that every person can make a difference. According to the belief of Invitational Education and Education Appreciation, we think that every child has got his own talents and potential. Within the 5 crucial features of "Invitational Education", respect, trust, care, optimism and intentionality, we disseminate the love and care to children under the intentional arrangement of the "5P"s. They are people, places, policies, programmes and processes. Moreover, through the implementation of "ICAN" psychological counseling curriculum, we help children build up their self- esteem and cultivate positive values and attitude. These qualities are essentials for children to deal with the challenges they are facing. We have attained "Caring School Award" for 12 consecutive years and "School with Heart Award" for 11 consecutive years. We were also awarded "ICAN School" for 14 consecutive years and became the 'Model ICAN School' and we were awarded the Paula Helen Stanley Fidelity Award in 2013, 2015 and 2017.
