Message from CHSC Chairman

September 2024

Dear Parents,

I am delighted to announce the publication of the Primary School Profiles (PSP) 2024. In addition to printed copies, an online version of the PSP (https://www.chsc.hk/primary/en) is available for your easy access to school information.

The PSP serves as an extensive guide to over 500 primary schools, providing essential information about school mission, school facilities, teaching staff, class structure, performance assessment, school life, school characteristics, and more. To choose a suitable school for your child, you need to first understand their attributes, personalities, abilities and interests, and consider various factors such as the school’s educational philosophy, district, religion, as well as home-school co-operation and ethos. In addition to referring to the PSP, you may participate in activities or attend talks organised by individual primary schools to learn about their admission process, development direction, unique features, and so forth. Seeking professional advice from school principals and teachers can also help you make the best possible choice of school for your child. Furthermore, you are encouraged to attend talks on the transition from kindergarten to primary school organised by the Education Bureau (EDB) to gain a better understanding of the Primary One Admission System.

As children start primary school, they encounter a new learning environment and must adapt to a different mode of learning. These changes and adjustments inevitably present challenges for them. To help your child adapt to primary school life, it is important that you pay close attention to their learning, behaviour and emotions, while also spending quality time with them and listening actively to understand their needs and feelings. Your efforts will motivate and support your child to develop a positive attitude, empower them to navigate difficulties and view setbacks and challenges as opportunities for learning and growth. You may also make reference to the “4Rs Mental Health Charter” recently launched by EDB, which emphasises the importance of having enough Rest, taking time for Relaxation, building interpersonal Relationships and cultivating Resilience as key components for promoting children’s mental health.

Throughout your child’s primary school years, you can stay updated on their learning progress and foster a stronger home-school connection by maintaining close contact and good communication with the school, dedicating time to participate in the activities organised by the school and the Parent-Teacher Association. A close partnership between home and school contributes to the creation of a joyful and harmonious learning environment where children can flourish and thrive.

Lastly, I extend my best wishes to you and your family. May every child grow up in good health and enduring happiness.
