Secondary One Admission : Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2021 ).Academic performance 40%, Conduct 30%, Internal or external services 15%, Awards 15%
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life : Various kinds of orientation activities for new students and their parents are organized in July and August. Orientation week, English bridging courses, summer tutorial class and interest class are arranged.
Healthy diet and regular exercise lead to the development of one’s healthy lifestyle. Nutritious meals are provided by our lunch supplier for all students. S.1, S.2 and S.3 students have lunch inside school. Physical Education develops students’ physical competence. An active and healthy life-style is promoted. In order to develop disciplined behavior, there are three uniform groups for students to choose from.

School Management
(1)School's Major Concerns : SJA culture: Faith, Hope, Charity, Justice, Wisdom and Courage
(2) School Management Organisation : The Incorporated Management Committee manages the school under the School-based Management system. The Administration Committee is comprised of three domains: The Academic, Pastoral Care and School Management Domains. These Domains consist of 10 committees. The Principal together with the Heads of these committees, Special Educational Needs Coordinator and Panel Heads of Chinese Language and English language, run the school through regular meetings.
(3) Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee : The Incorporated Management Committee is composed of representatives of the school sponsoring body, the supervisor, the principal, the representatives of teachers, parents and alumni. School policies and plans are drawn up and periodically evaluated.
(4) School Green Policy : The environmental protection society organizes various activities to raise the awareness of environmental protection among students. The students will participate in the scheme of eco ambassador, greening school scheme and waste recycling scheme.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy : 1. Bilingual medium of instruction: Chinese is adopted as the medium of instruction in most of the Junior Secondary subjects. English is adopted as the medium of instruction in S.1-3 Mathematics and Science by group. Bilingual medium of instruction is adopted in Senior Secondary Mathematics and some of the elective subjects.
2. English teaching catering for students' ability: English Diagnostic test will be offered to the Junior Secondary so as to distinguish students' need for learning English. Language Arts is included in Junior Secondary English curriculum. After school English enhancement course is offered to those students who are less abled in learning English.
3. Rich English learning environment: There is English corner in each classroom. Varied English activities are organized by the Net teachers and English ambassadors during lunch time. Overseas exchange tour during summer holiday is organized every year.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies : 1. Clear teaching objective: Diversified teaching strategies and teaching materials accommodate students’ learning diversities are adopted.
2. Establish effective learning routine: Learning and studying skills are taught.
3. Catering for Learner Differences: Enrichment classes catering for students' differences are arranged.
4. Diversified academic award schemes: Diversified academic award schemes are held so as to encourage students to develop sustainable learning habit.
5. Enrich students' learning experiences: Students are encouraged to join various kinds of academic activities and competitions.
6. Diversified life-wide learning activities are organized so as to broaden the horizons of students.
7. Advance with times: Our teaching staff is closely cooperated with Education Bureau and the education faculties of higher educational institutions so as to grasp the latest knowledge and improve teaching effectiveness.
(3) School-based Curriculum : 1. Electives: 2X and 3X. 11 elective subjects include arts, science and business learning areas. 2. DSE Visual arts, Category C: Other Language Subjects and Applied Learning are arranged.
2. Curriculum highlights: (1) We focus on strengthening core subjects and also make good use of e-learning platform so as to enhance students' self-directed learning ability. (2) In Junior Secondary, we are developing STEAM education to tailor-make a school based curriculum and encourage creativity. (3) Both Chinese and English Reading lessons are arranged in Junior Secondary. (4) Putonghua lessons are offered to Junior Secondary. Students' bilingual and trilingual abilities are enhanced. (5) The NSS core subjects are based on ability grouping. (6) There are various kind of elective learning groups for the students to choose so as to cater for their needs. (7) School based Chinese Language curriculum adaptation is designed for NCS students.
(4) Development of the Four Key Tasks : The school keeps abreast of the development of the Four Key Tasks suggested by the Education Bureau.
1. The school makes use of Tablet Computers and Wireless LAN to motivate students to learn. Through the e-Learning platform, students can learn by using teacher-produced video clips, which target students’ weaknesses. The school makes use of mobile applications to communicate with parents, allowing both teachers and students to benefit.
2. Religious Education is offered to all levels so as to develop student’s virtue and spirit. Life Education and Other Learning Experiences are offered to Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary respectively. The integration of Catholic core values into formal curriculum are gradually implemented.
3. "Reading Lesson" and "Extensive Reading Award Scheme " are launched. Reading E-books is also encouraged. Students learn and excel in the process of reading and develop a life-long reading habit.
4. Life-wide learning is promoted. Study tours outside Hong Kong are also encouraged.
(5) Life Planning Education : It is hoped that through proper guidance and life-wide learning activities, students will be enabled to make well thought-out decisions about their future. Systematic and tailor-made activities are held.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity : Peer Counseling Scheme are held. Leadership training camp for S.2 students is organized. Besides, our school takes care of the needs of Non-Chinese Speaking and Newly Arrived students through various activities. In addition, we have established an SEN Team which consists of two social workers, education psychologist and teaching assistant of integrated education, to assist students who need help in developing their potential and good interpersonal relationships.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education : A student support team is established, included and Educational Psychologist, social worker, SENCO, guidance teachers and teaching assistant of integrated education, so as to support the students with special educational needs. Our teachers develop their professional skills by enrolling in professional development courses of inclusive education. The learning support grant and other resources are used flexibly, so as to provide diversified support for the students with special educational needs. A teaching assistant for SEN students is employed. Speech therapy and occupational therapy services, training on social skills, Chinese and English learning strategies programs, board games and integration programs are provided. In order to cater for learners' diversity and enhancing learning effectiveness, specific measures such as teaching adaptation and assessment accommodation in supporting SEN students are implemented. We work closely with the Education Bureau and educational psychologist. Regular case conferences and student assessments are held. Parents are also involved, so that individual educational plans can be tailor-made for specific students. The plans will be evaluated regularly so that parents can adopt the most effective method of teaching and taking care of their children.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking(NCS) Students : Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: providing after-school support programmes in learning Chinese; appointing additional teacher(s)/teaching assistant(s) to support NCS students’ learning of Chinese; arranging intensive Chinese learning and teaching mode(s), e.g. pull-out learning if necessary, split-class/group learning, etc.; developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting learning and teaching materials; and organising cultural integration activities. English is used as the medium of instruction in most of the HKDSE subjects.
(4) Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment : There are two uniform tests and two examinations in each academic year. Regular quizzes of core subjects and elective subjects are arranged, with reference to the progress of teaching. Continuous assessment is implemented through a balanced composition of formative and summative assessments. Students are streamed according to their learning abilities so that teachers can tailor make the curriculum and design tasks which cater for learner diversity.
Through regular diagnostic tests, the English Department assesses the English ability of Junior Secondary students and uses this data to group students according to their English competence for small group teaching and in so doing cater well for learner diversity. This helps in our endeavour to raise the English competence of students. There are English enhancement classes after school for Junior Secondary students. There are two after school English enhancement classes held every week for Newly Arrived Children to improve their foundation in English. In the Junior Secondary, project-based assessment is used for the subject of Chinese History.
Home-school Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation : The Parent-Teacher Association was founded in 1970. Parent representatives are invited to be the members of the Incorporated Management Committee, playing an active role in the decision making for the school major policies. A variety of activities, including talks, workshops, a picnic, volunteer work and the publishing of bulletins, are organized. Parents' contribution in the school activities foster the partnership between both parties for the betterment of students' well-round development.
(2) School Ethos : A loving and caring school culture is promoted. Students are encouraged to explore their talents and potential through extra-curricular activities, voluntary work and social services. Positive behaviour is encouraged by various kinds of reward schemes. The virtues of faith, hope, charity, justice, wisdom and courage are cultivated. The school culture is established. In addition, our school adheres to the core values of Catholic Education.
Future Development
(1) School Development Plan : Major development this year:
1. Make full use of e-learning platforms. Strengthen students' self-directed learning ability and enhance their learning effectiveness.
2. Refine the school-based STEAM curriculum, so as to enhance students' creative ability.
3.Strengthen bilingual and trilingual training and enhance English teaching.
4. Cultivate students' perseverance; and
5. Foster the culture of lesson observation and strengthen teachers' collaboration. Establish professional learning communities among teachers.
(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development : Teachers' professional development includes:
1. Development programmes in Key Learning Areas;
2. Workshops on teaching skills;
3. Workshops on enhancing students' learning effectiveness.
Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, Extra-curricular Activities, Co-curricular Activities, etc.) : There are about 27 ECA clubs including academic, various interest, sports and art, service, uniform and religious groups. Regular school functions include school outing, music festival, social services, causal wear day, sports day and swimming gala, etc. Academic weeks and RS week are organized on yearly basis.
Others : The theme of this year is 'Courage', which is closely related to the Catholic education core values of truth. Various scholarships, sponsored by alumni, are awarded to students who excel in different areas, to recognize students' achievements. Exchange programmes to English-speaking countries and pilgrimage are organized. Applied Learning will be offered to NSS students in need. Apart from the 5 areas of OLE, interest classes, fundamental skill certificates, inter-class competitions and music days are organized, so as to foster whole person development among students.
