Secondary One Admission : Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2021 ).Applicants are required to attend an interview. In addition to the performance in interview, criteria for admission is also based on the academic performance, conduct grade of the primary school as well as the comments made by the school, credits will also be given to students with active participation in extra-curricular activities or strengths in other areas other than academic. Academic performance (school results and the Rank Order List from EDB) – 44%, Interview Performance (language proficiency, common knowledge, creativity, courtesy and appearance, etc.) – 34%, Conduct – 12%, Performance of sports and arts / services / leadership – 10%.
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life : Parents Day, Bridging Course for S.1 students. Putonghua or English activities will be organized, enabling students to adapt to the new learning environment.

(2) School Management Organisation : Provide the stakeholders with a contribution platform through the channel of school executive committee meetings, academic studies committee meetings, staff meetings, PTA & Alumni Association to strengthen the link and cooperation among parents, Alumni community and the School.
(3) Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee : Our School Management Committee is strong and effective, supervise the direction of the school development. School Management Committee Limited has been formed.
(4) School Green Policy : Our school has introduced the strategy of sustainable development in campus while the ideal could be fulfilled by the practice from administrators, staff & students, etc. We have attained the Green School Award and Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy : Emphasis has been put on the nurturing of students with proficiency in English and Putonghua; English classes are offered in S.1 to S.3 respectively (Mathematics, Liberal Studies, Integrated Science, Geography, History, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Literacy, Visual Arts, Music & Physical Education are taught in English). One of the classes in each junior form adopts English as the medium of instruction for all subjects. English learning groups are offered in S.4 to S.6 respectively (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History and Geography are taught in English). To enhance students' capabilities in both of the languages, Chinese for S.1 to S.6 are taught in Putonghua while, English, with Native English Teachers (NETs), English school-based curriculum, English drama course, English on-line reading program and overseas study tour, etc.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies : Learning & Teaching Strategies
An inquiry-based collaborative learning method are used to develop the analytical and problem-solving ability as well as creativity of the students. Great effort is also put to promote online learning, so as to expand the learning spaces and help cultivating students’ self-learning ability.
(3) School-based Curriculum : 1. Electives: 2X and 3X. Tourism & Hospitality Studies, Economics, Chinese Literature, Chinese History, Business, Accounting & Financial Studies, Visual Arts, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Mathematics Extended Part Module 2.
2. Curriculum highlights: A variety of school-based curriculum, based on the curriculum of Hong Kong and the advantages of other countries’ curriculum, is adopted by school, covering Liberal Studies, English drama, Geography of China and IT application in junior form. School-based curriculum is introduced for cross-curricular STEM education in junior form, STEAM Education, subjects relating to Humanities Education, top-notch lessons for language-related subjects, etc. to nurture students’ proficiencies in different aspects in meeting the challenges of the 21st century.
(4) Development of the Four Key Tasks : By means of curriculum adaptation of the key learning areas, Reading Scheme, Learning beyond the Classroom Approach and Sharing Sessions given by successful people to strengthen the development of the four major concerns : reading to learn, information technology for interactive learning, project learning and moral and civic education. Reading Award Scheme is implemented to encourage students to do more reading (including online books), while reading sharing session and school-wide reading time are also introduced for developing students’ multiple intelligences and language proficiency.
(5) Life Planning Education : Apart from providing individual consultations of life planning, we will also arrange several activities cooperated with different professional organizations. One of the examples of those activities is sim-society. Work experience and internship opportunities will also be provided so as to let students plan their life properly.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity : We arrange students to different classes based on their level. We divide classes into groups and we have clear mechanism to identify the differences between students. We decide curriculum based on students’ ability and interests. We also introduce all-round learning and multi-intelligence activities effectively.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education : Teaching and assessment accommodations, remedial support groups, social skills training group, speech therapy services are provided by school.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking(NCS) Students : Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: providing after-school support programmes in learning Chinese; and organising cultural integration activities.
(4) Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment : Two uniform tests and two examinations are arranged every school year, a formative assessment system is also set up to facilitate learning.
(5) Fee Remission : Our school offers full school fee remission or 1/2 school fee remission. Needy students, including those from families receiving the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) and students receiving financial assistance provided by the Student Financial Assistance Agency (SFAA) could apply for fee remission.
- Newly admitted students could apply for the school fee remission after 1 month(s) of commencement of the new school year. Application results will be announced within 1 month(s) after submission of applications. Various scholarship schemes are established, including academic and conduct scholarship, arts and sports scholarship, while a Cross Boundary Learning Activities Subsidy Scheme is also available.

Home-school Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation : Hon Wah College Parents and Teachers Association has been formed since 1957 to strengthen the home-school connection and communication through the activities such as Parents’ Helpline, Parents’ Night, Home Visit Day, Parent-Child Picnic, Parent Volunteers, and Parents’ Talks.
(2) School Ethos : The ethos of our school is simple and pragmatic, focusing on the development of extra-curricular activities for students, arranging remedial teaching to cater students at lower ability level, as well as offering support to gifted students.
Future Development
(1) School Development Plan : Emphases are put on language education, self-directed learning, nurturing of arts and sports potential for students and value education as well.
(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development : Our teachers are keen on improving themselves pro-actively. They will attend the courses, seminars or workshops organized by EDB or other professional sectors from time to time for catching up with the educational development. There is a provision of different kinds of school-based trainings, including collaborative lesson planning, peer observation, action research, etc. for developing research and exchange among teachers.
Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, Extra-curricular Activities, Co-curricular Activities, etc.) : Comprehensive Assessment Scheme is a system used to record in detail each student's development and achievements in life-wide learning, thus providing a good reference for his academic path and career planning. Students are encouraged to take part in different kinds of extra-curricular activities or competitions such as mainland field trips, English study tour, Arts and Sports Education Scheme, volunteer community service, uniform groups, school teams or other interest groups.
