Secondary One Admission : Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2022 ).The allocation of S.1 discretionary places will be based on students’ academic achievements (40%), performance in extra-curricular activities (15%) and performance in interview (45%). The school will interview about 220 applicants on 12th March, 2022. Students with outstanding achievements in Music or Sports will also be invited for a talent assessment if they have achieved an acceptable standard in their academic work. (Details will be released on our school homepage at https://www.qc.edu.hk in early December 2021.)
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life : To familiarize parents with the school, a talk for incoming S.1 parents is held during the summer holidays. Besides, the school also offers English Bridging Courses for S.1 students to prepare them for their junior secondary studies. The Orientation Activities for S1 students are organized at the school campus at the end of August and September by the Counselling Team. Being led by the “group dads” to participate in various games and experiential activities, the S1 students can know more about their seniors, schoolmates, and the school's facilities. It helps them adapt more easily to the new environment and life in secondary school. Besides, by participating in group activities concerning personal growth and development, the S1 students learn the importance of positive beliefs and attitudes to help them achieve their aims and establish a harmonious interpersonal relationship. Moreover, it also helps to establish a close rapport between the seniors and the juniors and cultivate a sense of belonging to their school.

(4) School Green Policy : In order to fulfil the mission of protecting the environment, our school is committed to ensuring that all of our management decisions, activities and routine operations are carried out in an environmentally-responsible manner. We will make information on environmental protection available to teachers and students and review our performance with regard to environmental protection regularly so as to improve our green campus management.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy : All subjects are taught in English except Chinese Language, Chinese History and Putonghua. To improve students' language competence, training in all four skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing is emphasized. Students are also encouraged to participate in various language activities such as writing competitions, public speaking contests, debates and the Hong Kong School Speech Festival, so as to gain more opportunities to practise their language skills. All the morning assemblies held at school are conducted in English. There are also regular sharing sessions and presentations in English and Putonghua by the students in the assemblies.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies : Experiential learning is strategically implemented for promotion of deep learning and development of independent thinking, creativity and good learning skills among students by subject-based activities inside and outside classrooms. Through effective questioning and timely feedback, students’ learning progress can be monitored and high order thinking abilities can be systematically developed. The application of various e-Learning equipment and e-Learning platforms can facilitate self-directed learning. Moreover, students are encouraged to read extensively across various curricula and contexts to enhance their language proficiency and self-learning ability.
(3) School-based Curriculum : 1. Electives: 3X. A maximum of 4X can be chosen, depending on students’ ability.
2. Curriculum highlights: Cross-curricular projects are arranged for junior forms for systematic development of students’ generic skills. In order to enhance students’ language skills, split class teaching is adopted for Chinese and English lessons so that students will have more opportunities to apply what they have learned in smaller classes. Striving to develop students' potential and fostering their creativity and high order thinking skills, our school has been developed a school-based gifted education curriculum in Mathematics. Moreover, the junior form Integrated Science curriculum has incorporated the 'Creative Science' module, which aims to encourage students to investigate scientific phenomena and apply STEM education to solve daily life problems. In addition, entrepreneurship experience is incorporated in the S.3 Life and Society curriculum, this aims to develop students’ entrepreneurial spirit and skills, including goal setting, creativity, problem solving skills, teamwork, communication, digital marketing and learning from mistakes.
(4) Development of the Four Key Tasks : Our school endeavours to facilitate students to acquire learner autonomy through E-learning and STEM education. Apart from participating in local and overseas STEM programmes, the school also collaborates with local universities to arrange STEM activities for the students. A 'Leadership Development Team' has been set up to provide leadership training for students through the organization of seminars, leadership training camps and club activities. Students are guided to understand the roles and responsibilities of leaders. In fact, many of our renowned alumni are frequently invited to share with students their experiences as leaders.
(5) Life Planning Education : The Career and Life Planning Team implements the whole-school career and life planning programmes. Through talks, workshops, visits, mock practices, mentorship programmes, job shadowing and internship programmes, etc. jointly organized with local and overseas universities, local companies, non-government organizations and Queen's College Old Boys' Association, our students are provided with ample opportunities to explore the knowledge, skills and attitude conducive to career and life planning.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity : The Gifted Education Team has arranged a great variety of programmes and activities to unleash the potential of our students. The school has adopted the three-tier operation mode suggested by the Education Bureau in implementing gifted education. This comprehensive model facilitates the provision of gifted education at the classroom level (Level 1), through pull-out programmes after regular school hours (Level 2) and by means of enrichment and extension learning opportunities outside of school (Level 3).
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education : Our School is committed to developing an inclusive and caring culture through the “Whole School Approach”, providing students who have special educational needs (SEN) with diversified supporting services to enhance their learning efficacy. The Student Support Team consists of the following members: The Principal, Vice Principals, Special Educational Need Coordinator (SENCO), teachers-in-charge of Curriculum Development, Counselling, Careers and Life Planning, Examinations, and teachers trained in special education, school social workers and teaching assistants. Training for teachers on supporting students with SEN is provided by SENCO and Educational Psychologist (EP). The Learning Support Grant and other resources are fully utilized for recruiting teaching assistants, purchasing services such as clinical psychologist support, school-based Liberal Studies courses etc. Learning activities, homework / assessment adjustment, referrals, evaluation and study plans are devised for students concerned through cross-discipline collaboration. Peer support is also provided for SEN students for better adaptation to school life. With a view to enhancing home-school co-operation, teachers of the Student Support Team and other teachers responsible always maintain regular contact with parents of SEN students.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking(NCS) Students : Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: appointing additional teacher(s)/teaching assistant(s) to support NCS students’ learning of Chinese; arranging intensive Chinese learning and teaching mode(s), e.g. pull-out learning if necessary, split-class/group learning, etc.; developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting learning and teaching materials; and organising cultural integration activities.
(4) Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment : The mid-year exam and the yearly exam which account for 1/3 and 2/3 of the annual total respectively are held every year. Coursework assessment grades, based essentially upon student's test results and performance in assignments and learning activities, are also given.
Home-school Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation : The Parents-Teachers’ Association (PTA) organizes regular activities such as the Annual General Meeting, Annual Dinner, group tours in Hong Kong or to the Mainland, Parents’ sharing talks, and tea gatherings. Through these events, a mutual understanding and friendship among parents and teachers are fostered. Each year, parent helpers are recruited so that they can have greater involvement in PTA and school activities.
Furthermore, experienced speakers are invited to give talks on various topics such as parenting skills. The PTA’s publication provides parents with information about its activities and the development of the school. Meanwhile, the PTA has set up a 'Music Fund' with the aim of nurturing the musical talents of our students. Through the work of the PTA, parents can also understand the vision and mission of the school more thoroughly leading to closer cooperation between parents and the school.
(2) School Ethos : Our school focuses on the whole-person development of the students as well as the five core values, namely Diligence, Brotherhood, Integrity, Responsibility and Pursuit of Excellence, in order to groom students to become future leaders. Diligence reminds our students to be hardworking. Brotherhood indicates the hope that our students treasure their friendship and are willing to help each other. In fact, many graduates participate actively in various school functions to provide support to the students. In recent years, a 'mentoring scheme' has been established, in which alumni of various professions offer work-related learning experiences to the students and provide guidance and advice for their career and life planning. Integrity and Responsibility are values that our students are expected to possess and are reflected in their behaviour. Pursuit of Excellence is the goal of each of our students. They are always eager to improve themselves and strive for the best. All in all, our students are self-disciplined and are ready to uphold the five core values of Queen’s College.

(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development : The school emphasizes on the professional training and development of teachers. School-based staff development programmes on pedagogies related to the major concerns were conducted regularly to enhance teaching effectiveness. Members of the eLearning Team and STEM Team also promoted cross-curricular initiatives to incorporate technology to enhance students’ learning effectiveness. Annually, teachers were enthusiastic to attend workshops, in-service courses and seminars organized by the Education Bureau and other educational institutions, focusing on areas like blended learning, self-directed learning, experiential learning, information technology, school administration, curriculum development and assessment methods so as to facilitate teachers’ life-long learning and professional development. Collaboration among various subject teachers is also emphasized to address common concerns in teaching so as to enhance team spirit. Regular experience sharing sessions regarding ways to improve teaching skills are conducted so as to achieve higher effectiveness in learning and teaching.
Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, Extra-curricular Activities, Co-curricular Activities, etc.) : Extra-curricular activities are an important part of school life at Queen’s College. Through participation in the organization of various activities, our students gain precious learning experiences, which foster their independence and resilience. Queen’s College offers a vast array of extra-curricular activities, including 50 clubs and societies, 8 Houses and a Student Council. In order to create an amicable relationship among students from different levels, a House system in the school has been in place since the 1950s. Inter-house competitions are conducted in the annual Athletic Meets, Swimming Gala and other competitions. The performance of each House will be recorded and an Overall Championship is awarded each year. There are teacher advisers for each club, though students take the role of leaders such as Chairman and committee members. Traditions and the school’s core values can thus be passed on from one generation to the next. Sometimes, graduates even come back to assist in the activities. Among all the clubs and societies, the Music Society (consisting of the School Orchestra, String Orchestra, Wind Band, Recorder Band, Harmonica Team, A Cappella Team, Band Society, Dance Team and the two School Choirs (Male Voice & Treble)) is one of the largest, while the Scouts (Hong Kong 12th Group) and the Astronomers’ Club have the longest history in the school. Equipped with an astronomical telescope, the Astronomers’ Club is one of the most popular amongst the students.
Others : The school provides scholarships to students with outstanding performance for paying local university fee. For example, there are scholarships established by the Morrison Fund and the Old Boys. Students with outstanding academic results or exceptional performances in leadership, sports, music, arts and social services are awarded. The school has established a Scholarship Committee to compile a set of objective criteria for awarding scholarships. Our students have consistently excelled in various joint-school competitions and open competitions. For instance, our students have been awarded gold, silver and bronze medals in the International Junior Science Olympiad, International Physics Olympiad and International Mathematical Olympiad, representing Hong Kong to participate in the competitions overseas. In the Odyssey of the Mind, the creativity and teamwork of our students have earned them the chance to represent Hong Kong at the World Finals in the US.

In order to provide a balanced and diverse school education that meets the different needs of our students, various sports clubs and ball game teams have been established and students are encouraged to join open competitions. Our students have excelled in orienteering competitions, representing Hong Kong to participate in the competitions in Europe and cities in the mainland on multiple occasions. Our school’s Badminton Team has also been the Champion in the Inter-school Badminton Competition (Division One Boys Overall) held by the HKSSF for fourteen consecutive years. In the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, our school has also attained brilliant results in various individual and team competitions. For example, in the past ten years our Recorder Band and Ensembles have won the first place fifteen times, and our School Orchestra has won five Championships at the String Orchestra (Intermediate) Competition, and our Male Voice Choir and Treble Choir have won two Championships and twelve other prizes.

In order to broaden students’ horizons and deepen their understanding of world cultures, our school has organized various study tours and exchange tours. Our students have participated in exchange tours led by teachers to countries such as Australia, Singapore, South Korea, UK and USA. Since 2004, to let students understand the history and the latest development of the Mainland, various study tours to mainland cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Qingdao, Xian, Suzhou, Yichang, Chengdu, Guiyang, Guangzhou, Ningxia, Liannan, Qianhai, Zhongshan and even Inner Mongolia have been organized. Participating students have to conduct interviews, do research and collect data for their projects, which are to be presented to the whole school after their tour. Moreover, Beijing 101 Middle School, Ulsan Meister High School in South Korea and the Melbourne High School in Australia have also been our sister schools. Exchange visits to Beijing 101 Middle School every year, and to Ulsan Meister High School and Melbourne High School every other year are arranged so as to build students’ friendships and promote the exchange of knowledge. In the last two years, Sports Training Camp in Taipei and Music Tour in Italy were organized to widen students’ horizons and enhance the capabilities of our school teams.
