Secondary One Admission, Orientation Activities & Healthy School Life

Secondary One Admission	:	Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2023 ).S.1 Admission criteria and weightings: 1. 50%: Interview performance (including presentation skills, communication skills, comprehension skills, rational thinking and judgment); 2. 30%: Special Educational Needs (e.g. Assessment Report) and academic results; 3. 15%: Conduct (e.g. grades, records, etc.); 4. 5%: Extra-curricular activities.
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life	:	1. There are orientation activities in late August for all S1 students to quickly familiarize themselves with the school facilities and learning life in school; 2. All S1 class teachers and the school social worker will conduct home visits to have a greater understanding of students' special educational needs; 3. We nurture the physical and mental wellness of our students by implementing different activities such as learning about having a balanced diet, fitness and etiquette training; 4. In order to enrich their school life and develop their social skills, S1 to S3 students have healthy vegetarian lunches on campus.

(2) School Management Organisation	:	Under a school-based management scheme, both the School Management Committee and School Administrative Committee operate with different departments and teams to coordinate the planning of the academic affairs, discipline and guidance, life planning education, moral education, information technology, extra-curricular activities and professional development of teachers, as well as communications with parents and guardians.

Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy	:	Chinese as the major medium of instruction.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies	:	Our school is a government aided and well-facilitated school. It was a skills opportunity school when it was first established in 1998 but as all skills opportunity schools started the mainstreaming process in 2003, it has gradually transformed into a 6-year aided secondary school. To date, we have all along been promoting the same school mission, specializing in students with special educational needs and developing different professional certification courses to help students explore multiple pathways. To cater for students' learning competence and special educational needs, we provide a diversified curriculum for our students. We have made reference to the central school curriculum framework and content set by the Education Bureau to tailor-make our teaching materials, arrange learning activities and assessments for our students. We also use appropriate teaching and learning strategies to provide comprehensive education for our students. Flexible and interactive ways are adopted to help them master difficult concepts and prompt them to think for themselves. We help them build up basic life skills and positive working attitudes through different practical skills training and pre-vocational training courses. To achieve these, our school: 1. adopts different teaching materials and assessments in each level to cater for learning diversities of our students; 2. has established Life Planning and Pre-vocational Training lessons for S3-S4 and S5-S6 students respectively, allowing them to know more about themselves at the earliest possible time to better plan for their future. 3. has set up the Student Learning Support Committee which offers our students a diverse range of learning and growth support, after-school classes and counselling services.
(3) School-based curriculum	:	1. Electives: Catering Services, Design and Applied Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Health and Social Care 2. Curriculum highlights: a. We divide students into different classes, groups and tiers based on their learning abilities. b. Some subjects adopt tailor-made teaching materials and adjust teaching plans and strategies according to the learning progress and abilities of our students. c. We help students acquire recognized qualifications before their graduation to enhance their employment and career development capabilities, including: - implement both Level 1 and Level 2 Qualification Framework programmes in Catering Services and Design and Applied Technology subjects within regular school hours. - prepare students to take the Vocational English Programmes and Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) examinations after class.
(4) Development of the Four Key Tasks	:	1. Reading to Learn: Reading periods, activities, Chinese and English online reading platforms are arranged to cultivate reading habits of the students. Our school library provides diversified reading materials and a reading scheme to promote reading and writing at school; 2. Information Technology for Interactive Learning: We incorporate information technology into our teaching to increase the learning effectiveness of our students. Different online learning platforms are used to conduct e-learning, online self-assessment and teacher-student interaction. 3. Moral and Civic Education: We nurture our students with positive attitudes, values and develop them into respectable citizens. This is achieved by introducing topics of interest during the class teachers' periods, weekly assemblies, talks, etc. 4. Interdisciplinary Learning: We organize various cross-curricular learning activities (e.g. STEM education, Language across the Curriculum and Values Education) and connect them with the life-wide learning activities to help our students consolidate their knowledge, apply what they have learnt and facilitate their whole-person development.
(5) Life Planning Education	:	Apart from organizing regular life planning workshops and career talks for teachers and parents, we offer Life-Planning and Pre-vocational Training lessons to S.3 to S.6 students, aiming at increasing their self-understanding in regular lessons and helping them explore opportunities for further studies and career development. Senior students are able to join team and individual consultations, school and company visits, vocational aptitude tests, interview workshops, internship programmes, etc. Some of them can learn proper social etiquette, positive attitude towards work and communication skills in workplace from mentors in the Mentorship Programme. Besides, we cooperate with non-profit making organization to provide an additional one-year employment support or individual follow up services for all S.6 graduates. Parents can also seek for suitable support services for their children from these organizations.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity	:	Based on students' distinctive learning competences and special educational needs, our school adopts a tailor-made 6-year school-based curriculum. We divide them into different classes so that particular pedagogies, learning activities, content and assignments can be set accordingly. For instance, students in the same level are restreamed into different groups in English and Mathematics lessons. Differentiated teaching is applied in Chinese lessons. By doing so, students can have learning materials with varying levels of difficulties that are fit for their individual learning needs.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education	:	Our school cultivates an inclusive culture and promotes mutual respect of individual differences. Our Student Support Committee comprises the Vice Principal, Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Special Educational Needs support teachers, teachers, student counsellors and learning support assistants. They work closely with the educational psychologist, clinical psychologist, speech therapists and occupational therapists to provide a holistic care for learner diversity in our school. To further support the development of learning, life and social skills of our students, we deploy the Learning Support Grant flexibly to appoint professionals and procure services for organizing various types of after-school learning and support programmes.
(4) Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment	:	There are two examinations per year. Multiple assessment measures are applied in different subjects to cater for the learning needs of our students. For example, quizzes, oral assessments, performance assessments, teachers' observation and project learning are conducted to help teachers evaluate students' learning and provide constructive feedback for them. There are also special examination arrangements to cater for the needs of our students such as reading the examination papers, explaining the questions, extra time allowance, enlarged question papers and special reminders, etc.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation	:	1. To enhance the close collaboration between the school and parents; 2. To foster the academic, physical and mental growth of the students; 3. To develop the potential of parents and enhance a closer parent-child relationship.
(2) School Ethos	:	Our students are polite and well-disciplined. Future Development
(1) School Development Plan	:	Three-year School Development Plan (2020/21 – 2022/23): 1. Facilitate self-regulated learning and increase motivation for learning to help students prepare for their future; 2. Develop a responsible attitude and strengthen self-discipline to cultivate a positive environment in the face of adversity; 3. Enhance professional qualities of teachers to meet the changes and challenges of teaching and learning.
(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development	:	A large proportion of our staff have completed special education training. Our school encourages teachers' continuous professional training and development. We also organize school-based workshops to reinforce teachers' skills in catering for students with special educational needs.
Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.)	:	1. We organize different extra-curricular activities to enrich students' school life, increase their sense of belonging and enhance the positive relationship between teachers and students. For example, based on students' abilities, interests and social culture, we organize various co-curricular activities such as Sports Climbing Training Class, Meditation Class, Tole Painting Class, Buddhist Youth Club, Scouts and Red Cross Youth Unit. 2. In order to help our students create a healthy social circle and a balanced attitude towards life, there are different large-scale activities, e.g. Life-Wide Learning Day, Sports Day, Education Camp and different kinds of ball games. We also prepare our students to participate in some inter-school competitions to keep them in touch with the society. 3. We encourage students to take the initiative to be leaders of different school clubs so as to help them learn from experiences, promote their sense of responsibilities and all-round development in the domains of ethics, intellect, physique, social skills, aesthetics and emotions.
