Secondary One Admission, Orientation Activities & Healthy School Life

Secondary One Admission	:	Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2023 ).Admission criteria and weightings for S.1 Discretionary Places are Academic Performance (Ranking in the “Rank Order List”) 30%, conduct 20%, performance in Extra-curricular Activities and Services 20% and performance in interview 30%.
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life	:	We have an Orientation course for our S.1 intakes and a Parents' Day for their parents before the school year commences. We also provide a S.1 Bridging Programme for our S.1 intakes in the summer vacation so as to enhance their English language and Mathematics proficiency. The school works closely with the lunchbox service provider in creating an environment emphasizing "healthy diet". Our diversified Physical Education curriculum is designed with a balance between theories, skills and fitness, aiming to develop well-rounded students. Our school has the whole school programme 'Healthy School'. Healthy activities, anti-drug activities and educational talks will be held, in order to improve our student physical, mental and spiritual health.

(4) School Green Policy	:	To save energy resources, the air-conditioners in classrooms are turned on only in summer and the temperature is set at 25.5℃. Printing is done on both sides of the paper to practise economy. Our school requests the lunchbox service provider to recycle lunch boxes. Our school also organizes many different kinds of activities for recycling purposes throughout the year.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy	:	Our students have built a firm foundation in Chinese language and culture and have also achieved a high command of English and Putonghua. We employ one native English-speaking teacher to raise the English standard of students in various aspects. Many measures have been taken to boost our students' English level, including the English Discussion Groups, Tutorial and Enhancement Classes, the Summer English Bridging Course, etc. To further enhance students' English standard and their achievement in bi-literacy and trilingualism, school-based extensive English learning activities are introduced in all school subjects except Chinese Language, Chinese History and Putonghua with reference to their own curricular development.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies	:	We adopt an interactive and student-centered approach in our teaching through the mother tongue. This is to arouse our students' interests in learning and to equip them with generic skills, including analytical power, problem solving and communication skills, etc., through our curriculum. We adopt a weekly teaching cycle and incorporate Afternoon Reading Period and Assembly in the timetable to use teaching time more efficiently. Our students have attained outstanding results in most subjects. This reflects the teaching effectiveness of our teachers.
(3) School-based curriculum	:	1. Electives: 2X and 3X. Our school offers 12 elective subjects in Senior Forms. Students can select 3 elective subjects or 2 elective subjects according to their academic abilities, aptitudes and interests. 2. Curriculum highlights: Our school provides 12 elective subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Information & Communication Technology, Chinese Literature, Chinese History, Economics, Geography, History, Business, Accounting and Financial Studies, Tourism and Hospitality Studies and Visual Arts. Students can also take various Applied Learning courses in Secondary 5 and 6. The school-based curriculum fully caters for the diversified learning needs, interests and capabilities of the youngsters. Other Learning Experience programmes are organized to enhance various generic skills. Gifted education programme and after-school tutorials are arranged to cater for the learning diversity of students.
(4) Development of the Four Key Tasks	:	We have Afternoon Reading Periods. All students can choose to read their favourite materials, including Chinese and English newspapers. We also promote reading through the Extensive Reading Scheme and Online Reading Programme to strengthen our students' reading habit and to improve their Chinese and English language proficiency through reading. In addition, our School Library in collaboration with different subjects offers reading programmes and activities to consolidate our students' knowledge of different academic subjects. With a view to facilitating the effectiveness of teaching and learning, we make the electronic platform, mobile learning tools, electronic interactive whiteboards, data-logger, Geographic Information System, on-line school library system and other information technology available for students to collect data, discuss and share information and do scientific experiments. Most importantly, interactive learning, geographical survey, on-line reading and high order thinking skills can be cultivated. In junior form project learning, students practise mind-mapping skills, set themes and elaborate them for their individual projects through collecting and processing data and analyzing problems. Through afternoon and weekly assemblies, class periods and wide-life learning activities, we aim to help students cultivate a positive and strong attitude towards life.
(5) Life Planning Education	:	Emphasizing on the Career and Life Planning of students, we provide comprehensive Career and Life Planning Programmes for all students according to their Career Development Stages and needs in Career Planning. Our Career and Life Planning Programmes aim to enhance students' self-awareness, understanding on the multiple pathways for further studies and the world of work, such that students can have career planning and development best suit for themselves. Whole-school approach has been facilitated with implementation of Career and Life Planning in our school. As an integral part of the Life Education, formal class teacher periods on Career and Life Planning are introduced; building on this firm foundation of Career and Life Planning Education, workshops, talks, sharing sessions, school-based Careers Expo, Mentorship Scheme, work experience activities, visits to workplace are implemented to consolidate and further enhance students' learning in their Career and Life Planning. Also, group and individual Career Guidance and Counselling are provided for students, in which they will be able to make appropriate career planning and well-informed decision for their future.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity	:	Our school recommend gifted students to join the gifted training courses run by the EDB or other educational institutions. From 2001 onwards, our school has been offering Whole-school Approach Integrated Education Programme to students with special educational needs. The SEN Student Support Committee has been established in 2009. Starting from 2011, there is a Learning Support Grant and School-based Educational Psychology Service from EDB. Starting from 2021, there is a school-based Speech Therapist from EDB. An Educational Psychologist and a Speech Therapist will station at school in regular interval. These resources help our school design tailor-made personal growth programme for respective students and provide suitable school-based services which cater for their learning diversity and emotional health. Besides, the Inclusive Ambassadors also provide peer support for SEN students in order to help them having the harmonious school life.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education	:	Our school has established a specific Working Team to support, plan, implement and evaluate the integrated education. The members of the working team include the Assistant Principal, SENCO, School Social Worker, School Educational Psychologist and Speech Therapist. Our school has adopted the whole school approach to support the students with special educational needs. All staff of the school acknowledge the responsibility of establishing the learning support programmes to cater for the needs of the students. The school assesses the suspected cases and refers them to the school educational psychologist and speech therapist. The subsidy is used to get service from the service providers. The services include social skill groups, individual counselling courses and after-school tutorial lessons. A teacher assistant has been employed to ensure all the programmes are run smoothly. The school has special examination arrangements for those students and they have been given extra time in the examination according to their needs. The school provides speech-to-text software for the students in the public examination. In order to nurture the professional development, the school has arranged teachers to attend training courses and seminars to help students with special educational needs.
(4) Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment	:	We have a well-defined school policy on homework, tests and assessments. We have fully implemented the "Assessment for Learning" principle to enhance our students' learning capabilities. Teachers also adopt formative and summative assessments for a better teaching and learning result. We also adjust the arrangements for tests and examinations and the assessment weightings according to the special education needs of students.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation	:	The Parent-Teacher Association supports the development of the school and assists the school in providing quality education. Their devotion to school is well reflected in the great variety of activities, leisure as well as educational. They frequently organize activities, like S1 Orientation Day, Teachers' Day, workshops, educational talks, summer tutorials, English oral practices, Putonghua Oral Practice and outdoor activities.
(2) School Ethos	:	The Clementi Secondary School Alumni Association nominated our school to the "Most Outstanding School Award Scheme". Our school was awarded a distinction in the area of School Ethos and Nurturing. The selection panel had high regard for our staff's team spirit. They appreciated the shared vision of our staff to make improvements to the school as well as the love and trust among staff and students. These factors make our school a truly harmonious place for teachers and students. Our school has also been receiving the full support from our Parent-Teacher Association and Alumni Association throughout the years.
Future Development
(1) School Development Plan	:	Our School is keen on utilizing any educational resources available to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching. For instance, English Department has joined the "Seed" Project for 2021/22 entitled "Read to Speak: Developing 21st Century Communication Skills through Interaction with Multigenre and Multimodal Texts (R2S)" provided by NET section, with a view to raising our Junior form students' abilities in reading and speaking. Besides, Careers Guidance Team hosts the Careers Expo and launches Mentorship Programme, along with individual and group careers counselling as to deepen students' reflections on planning their own careers. Also, our junior students' motivation in learning has been raised significantly through their reflections on individual learning and careers planning in constructing their own Student Learning Profile. A wide range of extra-curricular activities offered by our school can help students develop positive thinking and set distinctive goals in their life. We aim to enhance students’ generic skills through different activities. To fully develop our students' potentials, we encourage diversified, cross-curricular or cross-border exchanges, cooperation and research. We have close ties with our sister schools on the Mainland, including Capital National University No. 2 Secondary School in Beijing, Guangdong Experimental High School in Guangzhou, Beichuan Middle School in Sichuan, and Ningbo Leiwailei High School; and the Ulsan Meister High School in South Korea, hoping to develop a professional exchange with their teachers and students.
(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development	:	Every year, exchange programmes on school administration and learning and teaching are conducted with our partner schools overseas. These programmes broaden the horizons of our teachers and sharpen their teaching skills. We have Staff Development Days for the professional development of all members of staff. Many teachers also take courses in their own disciplines and others as well to enhance their professional development and effectiveness of learning and teaching.
Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.)	:	To promote the students' interests in various fields, we have 32 extra-curricular clubs and societies in our school through which students can develop leadership and positive social interaction skills and work towards worthy goals. They can be divided into four categories: academic; hobbies; social services; and sports and arts. To broaden students' horizons, some clubs join inter-school activities. We also organize other activities, such as Inter-House Competitions, Life Education activities, Academic Festival, English Speaking Day, School Picnic, Variety Show, Life-wide Learning Day, visits, cultural and sports activities, including mainland and overseas exchange programmes, for the students to foster their holistic development with these other learning experiences.
