Secondary One Admission, Orientation Activities & Healthy School Life

Secondary One Admission	:	Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2023 ).1. Academic performance (50%), 2. Interview (20%), 3. Affiliation with our school (10%), 4. Extra-curricular activities (10%), 5. Services (10%).
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life	:	The pre-S.1 Summer Bridging Programme (English, Maths & Science lessons and experiential learning) and the pre-S1 Parents' Orientation are held between July and August to help S.1 students adapt to secondary school life and parents understand of the school culture and policies before the school year starts. To enrich their campus life, all S.1 students must join regular physical training sessions and at least one uniform group.

School Management
(1)School's Major Concerns	:	1. Promote active learning to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching. 2. To promote Positive Education & Foster Whole-Person Development.
(2) School Management Organisation	:	The School Management Committee (SMC) is set up to make school-based decisions regarding administrative and management policies. The School's Policy & Executive Committee and different functional groups help to facilitate the integration of teaching and learning.
(3) Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee	:	Our School Management Committee (SMC) was set up in 1999. It now consists of 10 members, including the Chairman (assigned by a delegate of EDB), the School Principal, 2 parent representatives, 2 members of the Alumni Association, 2 independent members and 2 teacher representatives. Under normal circumstances, three meetings are held every year to discuss and report on major school matters.
(4) School Green Policy	:	The school attaches much importance to environmental education which aims to promote energy saving. The Green Wall and library rooftop greening project has been completed. Renewable energy projects at rooftop are now in progress. We cultivate environmental awareness among students through field trips and education. Our Environmental Education Committee also organizes educational environmental programmes regularly.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy	:	Our objectives are to enrich the English language environment within our school and provide opportunities for students to use and be exposed to English. To facilitate students with a good English learning environment, Reading Across Curriculum (LaC) is implemented in the junior curriculum (Life and Society). With a team of language teachers all attained the Language Proficiency Requirement and a NET teacher, we organize a variety of activities to enhance students’ learning in languages. Regular activities such as Chinese and English Extensive Reading Schemes, Morning Reading Scheme, English Drama, Chinese and English Verse Speaking and Debate Classes are conducted to raise the competence of students’ learning in languages. We also develop a School-based English Curriculum with tailor-made learning materials and interactive activities is prepared for our students. Different modes of assessments are employed to cater for learner diversity and to encourage English learning. Students with better English proficiency can opt for DSE examination papers in English for Physics and Chemistry.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies	:	Our school concerns the latest development of education. To cater for students' diversity in learning, teachers adopt different teaching strategies to optimize the effectiveness of student learning. Students have the opportunities to participate in a variety of teaching activities and learning experiences. We cooperated with a number of tertiary institutions to enhance students' learning abilities, including "Aviation Studies" and "Computer Game and Animation Design" for senior students. We also arrange after-school tutoring classes at all levels, and select outstanding students to join gifted programmes organised by universities. All these actively enhance learning and teaching effectiveness. To tie in with the curriculum development, our school offers Life and Society for junior form students.
(3) School-based curriculum	:	1. Electives: 2X. Elective groups are arranged according to the interests and abilities of students, including Visual Arts, Chinese History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, M2, Business, Accounting and Financial Studies, Economics, Tourism and Hospitality Studies, Health Management and Social Care, Visual Arts, Designed and Applied Technology as well as Applied Learning subjects. 2. Curriculum highlights: Our school offers 12 elective subjects including Chinese History, Economics, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business, Accounting and Financial Studies, Design and Applied Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Tourism and Hospitality Studies, Health Management and Social Care, Visual Arts and Applied Learning (Computer Game and Animation Design) to meet the diverse interests and abilities of students.
(4) Development of the Four Key Tasks	:	To nurture students’ reading habits and promote learning through reading, our school has implemented a morning reading scheme and a number of subject-based reading schemes. We organized project learning in English and Math to cultivate students’ generic skills, in an effort to promote active learning and explore individuals’ areas of interest. Besides, I.T. in teaching has been focused and adopted through the use of Zoom, Sutori and Google Classroom, online learning platforms, to improve effectiveness of learning and teaching in school. Meanwhile, we embrace a whole-school participation approach to pursue Value and National Security Education. A variety of learning activities are designed to inculcate positive values to students, aspiring them to become citizens with a good character.
(5) Life Planning Education	:	Our school aims to help students understand themselves and develop positive values so as to develop goodwork attitudes. Through Life-planning education programmes, career talks, sharing sessions held by professionals, company visits and workplace experience programmes, we hope that students would be able to have a better understanding of the world of work as well as to explore their career aspirations and orientation for life-long learning. We also integrate work-related elements in our curriculum in order to better prepared students for actualizing their potential. Parents’ education would empower parents to provide career guidance and support to our students.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity	:	To strengthen support for student diversity and enhance learning effectiveness, we organize after-school tutorials and remedial classes with the support of the School-Based After School Support Grant. Besides, language enhancement courses and courses on high-order thinking skills are conducted. To boost students’ learning motivation, collaborative teaching is adopted in every classroom. We give full support to Inclusive Education and respect individual differences. We cater to the special educational needs of individual student by hiring teaching assistants to arrange suitable activities and programmes.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education	:	The school fosters Inclusive Education by using “Whole School Approach” to help students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). By allocating resources, the school provides suitable and various supports, aims at helping students to improve academic results, discover potentials and blend in with school life. Members of the School Based Support team include Assistant Principal, SEN Coordinator, Guidance Teacher, Teachers of Chinese, English, Mathematics, Social Worker and Educational Psychologist. Learning Support Grants (LSG) is used for hiring two teaching assistants. LSG is also used for purchasing services for SEN students, for instance, hiring Speech Therapist for SI students; hiring Clinical Psychologist to help students with emotional problem. Our Social Workers also provide after guidance support for students with emotional needs. Remedial classes in Chinese, English and Math are organized for S1 students with special needs. Homework adaptation measures are provided with SEN students in needs. Meetings of Individual Education Plan (IEP) are held, providing a platform for different professionals in exchanging views and planning the IEP. The school values the cooperation with parents. Views and suggestions from parents for helping SEN students are collected in various means.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking(NCS) Students	:	Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: appointing additional teacher(s)/teaching assistant(s) to support NCS students’ learning of Chinese; and organising cultural integration activities. We organize pull-out program for Non-Chinese speaking students in their Chinese lessons. We also provide supplementary Chinese lessons for Non-Chinese speaking students to assist them in their preparation for the DSE Examination.
(4) Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment	:	Both continuous and summative assessments are used to assess students' performance and also to provide information for teachers to review their teaching strategies. Two uniform tests and two exams are held every year and frequent quizzes are given by subject teachers. Project Learning is introduced to provide a more comprehensive assessment and help develop students' generic skills. For S.4-S.6, we assess students' academic performance through school-based assessments, students' assignments, project learning as well as students' performance in class.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation	:	Our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) maintains a close relationship with the school. Through regular meetings with the school, the PTA fosters close ties between parents and the school. Regular seminars, picnics, tea gatherings and workshops for parents are organized. Two parent representatives are elected by parents to join the School Management Committee.
(2) School Ethos	:	With the Counselling and Discipline teams working closely, we adopt a firm policy that aims at boosting students' self-confidence. ‘Outstanding Students Scheme’, "Award Scheme’, ‘Leadership Training Programme’ are set up to nurture students and to build up good school ethos.
Future Development
(1) School Development Plan	:	Our school has been a co-ed school since September 2009 and we always strive for continuous improvement. Our major concerns and implementation strategies are set out in the school annual plan every year so as to cater for learning diversity. Our school organizes a wide range of activities to promote whole person development. Our school will continue to build closer ties with universities and communities to allocate more resources for our students. The major concerns for the School Development Plan from 2021 to 2024 are: 1. Promote active learning to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching. 2. Promote Positive Education & Foster Whole-Person Development.
(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development	:	Induction of new teachers and teacher experience sharing sessions are held regularly with special attention to effective teaching & learning. Teachers are encouraged to attend courses and seminars to upgrade their professional knowledge. Our school organizes school-based or joint-school staff development activities. Various talks, discussions, school visits and sharing sessions are held to keep teachers abreast of the latest issue of education.
Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.)	:	There are more than 30 subject clubs and interest groups. We provide ECAs covering academic studies, Aesthetics, sports and community services. Professional coaches are invited to teach different interest classes. S.3 - S.6 students are strongly encouraged to participate in different kinds of community services and exchange tours. All S.1 students must join regular physical training sessions and at least one uniform group.
Others	:	Students are encouraged to participate in a wide range of Extra-Curricular Activities, ranging from Music and Speech to Sports, from Writing Competitions to Martial Arts. A number of awards were received with pride. Besides, the Alumni Association, Parent Teacher Association, retired Principals, teachers, outstanding alumni, friends from the community and other organizations have set up scholarships for the benefit of students. They also received sponsorship for outbound learning activities. Throughout the years, our school has cultivated talents for the society. Many of our outstanding alumni have made great contribution to the society. These alumni devote themselves to giving back to their mother school by conducting speeches, sharing experience, setting up scholarship and sponsors. They even put forward a mentor scheme to encourage students to widen their horizons and set goals for their life.
