Secondary One Admission, Orientation Activities & Healthy School Life

Secondary One Admission	:	Our school's sponsoring body decided not to participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation this cycle (including Discretionary Places stage and Central Allocation stage).
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life	:	Our orientation activities include parents' day, orientation programs, Summer School (bridging courses, English tutorial classes), the "Seedling Nurturing Program", adventure-based counselling activities, peer group counselling, newly arrived children activities, etc. We cultivate our students to have healthy lives in all aspects, such as, physical health, spiritual health, moral education and healthy eating habits, etc. We encourage students to do more exercises.

School Management
(1)School's Major Concerns	:	Whole-person development, healthy school, learning diversity, collaborative through-train program.
(2) School Management Organisation	:	To implement "school-based management" and to realize the spirit of "whole-school participation", we have set up many committees to make plans and carry out various tasks such as school curricula, student affairs, information technology, higher education and careers guidance, student activities, general affairs, school social work, home-school co-operation through Parent-Teacher Association, etc.
(3) Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee	:	The incorporated management committee of Caritas Chai Wan Marden Foundation Secondary School, comprised of members of the school sponsoring body, the Principal, teacher representatives, parent representatives, alumni representative and the independents. The Incorporated Management Committee has been set up on 1st August, 2015 to ensure the smooth introduction and implementation of all school policies and measures.
(4) School Green Policy	:	Promote the recycle programs, for example, LED Energy-efficient Lighting System, food waste processor, hydroponics, computer and paper recycling program, etc.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy	:	Our school adopts Chinese as the medium of instruction, and emphasizes the education of Two Languages Three Dialects. Starting from Junior Forms, there is a fine tuning arrangement for the medium of instruction. For the non-language subjects, the subject teacher will organize Extended Learning Activities in English (ELA) for the class. The English Teacher gives full support in all programs. For Chinese and English Language lessons, students are allocated to small groups according to their language abilities.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies	:	We adopt student-centred pedagogy to cater for students' learning diversity. We encourage interactive teaching and learning. We adopt Chinese as the medium of instruction and implement small-group teaching as well as the "school-based remedial teaching approach. We advocate life-wide learning and incorporate EDB's curriculum reform. These approaches effectively developing students' potential and learning capabilities. Senior secondary students can select their subjects according to their interests and abilities. Besides this, we promote life-wide learning. We conduct reading lessons and project-based learning lessons to improve students' communication skills, critical thinking, creativity and self-learning abilities. We adopt the small-class policy to facilitate learning and teaching. We also run the "SMART Learning Support Program" to provide less capable students with the appropriate curriculum and fully support them. Small group teaching & learning, individual guidance, afterschool tuition are provided to all students in need, especially for those non-Chinese Students. Through the programs such as the whole-school reading day, "subject-based reading schemes" and "reading strategies workshops", we arouse students' interest in reading, improve their reading skills and reinforce the function of reading in academic subjects. Students also have reading handbooks to record their comments and reflections when doing their extensive reading throughout their years of study at our school so as to inculcate the important concept of life-long learning.
(3) School-based curriculum	:	1. Electives: 3X. (include Applied Learning Courses) 2. Curriculum highlights: Besides the Science Stream, Humanities and Commercial Stream and Technology Stream in senior secondary, students can also take Applied Learning courses such as Health Care Practice, Western Cuisine, etc.
(4) Development of the Four Key Tasks	:	1. In order to develop students with deeper understanding of the values embedded in Catholicism, our school endeavours to nurture students morally and spiritually. Our religious education also help students establish a positive attitude and value as well as a healthy view of life. 2. All our students are encouraged to participate in volunteering and national education related activities. These activities provide diverse experiences for students to learn to share, broaden their horizons and enhance students’ understanding of other country. Thus, students learn to respect for themselves and the others with a caring personality. The emphasis on moral education and this sustainable development envision the inheritance of the traditional practices of Caritas education. (1) Reading to Learn: Subject teachers and librarians encourage students to borrow books from the library to facilitate their good habits of reading. Reading Award Schemes are implemented to students to their promote writing book reviews or reflections and share them as recorded in their reading booklets. (2) Information Technology for Interactive Learning: All subjects are encouraged to make use of information technology to add value in teaching and learning, so that learning interests are boosted and learning effectiveness is enhanced. (3) Project Learning: Involving in investigations of compelling problems, students get a more thorough picture towards the project. Through the lessons, they acquire the skills to gather information, think critically, summarize their solution ideas and present their learning outcomes to others. (4) Moral and Civic Education: By holding seminars on different themes, inviting guest speakers to school, holding school assemblies and different kinds of activities, our school would disseminate effectively about the knowledge concerning moral and civic education to students. Students are expected to be cultivated as committed and responsible citizens.
(5) Life Planning Education	:	Starting from Form One, students are fostered to become more self conscious and incline to individual planning, goal setting with a reflective mind. Through a range of career-focused activities such as seminars, visits, job expositions and overseas exchange activities, students inform themselves more about their future career paths and study options, in which an appropriate choice can be made to match with their abilities and interests.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity	:	SMART program held by experienced teachers and the school social worker provide adequate opportunities and help for students with SEN and learning difficulties. It helps newly Arrived Children to learn better at their pace. Besides, we give special care and focus in providing extra tuition for students to learn better languages. (English and Chinese)
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education	:	The Student Support Team facilitates small group or individual remedial support. • The members pay great effort in designing learning activities, supporting students in learning activities in classrooms, providing individual support on homework, training SEN students on the use of assistive aids and liaising with parents, etc.; • Our team collaborate with other professionals through hire of services; • Purchase teaching resources and aids; • Organise programmes on learning or inclusive culture so as to promote peer acceptance and support to SEN students; • Launch Individual Educational Program and Individual Support Program for SEN students; • Organise Reading Program in order to enhance the presentation skills of SEN students; • Provide Learning Enhancement Program to SEN students.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking(NCS) Students	:	Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: providing after-school support programmes in learning Chinese; appointing additional teacher(s)/teaching assistant(s) to support NCS students’ learning of Chinese; arranging intensive Chinese learning and teaching mode(s), e.g. pull-out learning if necessary, split-class/group learning, etc.; developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting learning and teaching materials; and organising cultural integration activities.
(4) Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment	:	We adopt continuous assessments of students' course work and conduct tests and examinations for students' assessment.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation	:	We give full support and encouragement to students through frequent communication with parents, e.g. Home visits, Parents' Day, PTA activities and meetings. Home visits are conducted at least once to all students during their junior forms and senior forms. Parents are invited to school functions, Sports Days, Christmas Party and School Anniversary.
(2) School Ethos	:	Our school won the 2009 Caring School Award and Outstanding Volunteer Team. We give full support and care to all students. We provide 'Life Education' lessons and adventure-based counseling activities to nurture students' positive attitudes towards life as well as enhance the full development of their multiple intelligences. We give adequate opportunities for students in developing their potential through various co-curricular activities related to Other Learning Experiences (OLE) such as volunteer work, Students’ Union, being Librarians and School Prefects etc. Our school volunteer team got "the Outstanding Volunteer Project" and the "Star of Volunteers" award presented by the Social Welfare Department. Our Principal was awarded to be one of the Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Young Persons in 2005 for her contribution in social services and her influence among the youth.
Future Development
(1) School Development Plan	:	Besides efforts to foster optimism in learning at school and students’ family lives, our school offer opportunities to students, who have various learning orientations and abilities, to explore their full potential in diversified activities advocated by us. The major focus of the plan this year is to: 1. enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching; 2. develop in students an excellent personality through the Core Values (Truth, Justice, Love, Life, Family) of Catholic Education; 3. broaden students' horizons; 4. develop students' innovative thinking; enhance students' collaboration and problem solving skills.
(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development	:	The Teacher Professional Development Team has been set up to promote teachers' professional development. Focus training is held periodically.
Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.)	:	Over 30 types of extra-curricular activities, including ball games, sports activities, religious gatherings, music, dancing, disciplinary and volunteer teams, as well as academic and interest clubs. Our main focus is on basketball training, Volunteer Team, Boys' Scout and Girls' Guide, JPC Leader Corps, CYC, Lion Dancing, Magic training, and study tour, etc. Our voluntary team has served our community for many years and was awarded by the Social Welfare Department. The Basketball School Team has been the champion in many inter-school competitions. Our students have also received different awards from the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival and JPC.
