Secondary One Admission, Orientation Activities & Healthy School Life

Secondary One Admission	:	Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2023 ).Admission criteria and weightings for S.1 DP is yet to be confirmed. Orientation Activities and Healthy Life	:	The school partners with external organizations to organize English Day Camp. S.1 Orientation Programme which includes Learning in English, Information Technology, Library Program, Self Management, Sports Exercise Experience, Guidance, Discipline, Extra-curricular Activities and 'Faith in School' programs is arranged. English and Mathematics Enhancement Courses are organized for those with weak foundation. Moreover, the Guidance Committee promotes whole person healthy growth of our students. Our school cares about students' physical health (including dietary nutrition and fitness training) and helps students develop physically, emotionally and spiritually through values education, life education, religious education, discipline & guidance schemes and various extra-curricular activities.

School Management
(1)School's Major Concerns	:	SKH Lui Ming Choi Secondary School strives for excellence in education, and supports the overall purpose of helping students achieve their potential as leaders, learners and carers. We envisage our students living up to the school motto-'Leadership, Motivation, Caring'. The school respects diversity of talents and believes in the broad Christian values of caring and service, and in the sense of right and wrong. The school also aims to help students believe in contributing to the common good of society.
(2) School Management Organisation	:	The School Policy & Development Committee is responsible for steering the directions of the school and evaluating the effectiveness of school policies.

Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy	:	1. Medium of Instruction: English is, and will continue to be, the Medium of Instruction (MOI) for most subjects in our School. As advised by the EDB, starting from the 2022/23 school year, certain subjects in Junior Secondary One will be taught in Chinese for some students. This will be a strategy to cater for students' learning diversity. Moreover, relevant measures to facilitate students' smooth transition to the Senior Secondary Curriculum (English as the Medium) will be implemented. 2. Medium of Communication: In order to help improve students' English and create an English Language environment in the school campus, English should be used as the medium of communication with students for teachers inside and outside classroom when the MOI for the subjects is English. All other teachers and staff are welcome to use English to communicate with students. 3. Purpose: Whole School Language Policy will be put in place in order to enrich the English Language environment in the school campus. Whole School team efforts are necessary to support students to communicate in English confidently and comfortably in an English-rich environment-one which is not conveniently available outside the school for the majority of our students, given their family backgrounds and preferred language. 4. Learning and Teaching: Language Across Curriculum (LAC) will help to coordinate efforts among Subject Departments and Committees to prepare necessary learning materials for students. Teachers should speak to the students in the same language inside and outside the classroom, i.e. English-medium subjects in English and Chinese-medium subjects in Cantonese/Putonghua. All are discouraged to use mixed code. 5. Students' Activities and Communication among Students: School Assemblies should be conducted in English, except for specific occasions as needs be. Materials on notice boards and display boards should be in English: or, in both English and Chinese as needs be. All publicity documents (such as circulars, notices and etc.) should be in English; or, in both English and Chinese as needs be. Mixed codes are not acceptable.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies	:	To live up the expectations of a Caring School, promoting Christian values, we are committed to serve with an educational vision of tradition and innovation. Students whose English potential is yet to be stretched will receive extra after-school learning support and care. Our teachers, alumni and former teachers are most ready to give support to such students. External resources would also be deployed. Suitable teaching strategies and school-based curriculum are adopted to cater for student diversity. The school keeps abreast of the latest trends in learning and teaching and encourages continuous professional development of teachers. Lesson Study is carried out in each subject to enhance student learning and teacher professional development. Workshops such as learning skills are provided for students to enhance learning. Various teaching strategies such as flipped classroom, peer assessment, e-learning are adopted to enrich learning both inside and outside classrooms. Subject departments work collaboratively to stretch students' reasoning and critical thinking and implement Language Across Curriculum (LAC). We joined the social enterprise project of 'The Lam Foundation' and launched the first 'S-Café' in school in Hong Kong. The café is run by our students to apply their knowledge of business operation in an authentic setting, during which students learn corporate responsibilities. Workshops like coffee brewing and latte art are organized.
(3) School-based curriculum	:	1. Electives: 2X and 3X. School-based Economic & Financial Literacy curricula are designed for junior forms for a better interface with the senior curriculum. 2. Curriculum highlights: Cooperative Learning is a strategy adopted in subjects like Mathematics to facilitate peer learning. Students in S.5 and S.6 can join Applied Learning courses (Mode 1) based on their interests and needs.
(4) Development of the Four Key Tasks	:	All four key tasks are incorporated in the planning of the formal and informal curriculum. Project learning is integrated in the Geography and Liberal Studies curricula; Reading across the curriculum is promoted by the inter-disciplinary reading programme and the library’s reading scheme; Moral, Civic and National Education is integrated in an array of activities, from talks to visits to competitions, etc.; IT for interactive self-learning has been enhanced with the procurement of more electronic devices, stronger wifi and workshops provided to teachers on latest e-learning software and hardware.

Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity	:	Various instructional strategies, streaming and small class teaching are adapted to cater for learner diversity in various subjects. Gifted students join pull-out programmes offered by the school, HKAGE, universities, etc. Enhancement programmes are arranged for weaker students. In addition, our school focuses on Whole Person Development. Collaboration across subject panels and committees to take care of students’ moral, intellectual, physical, social, emotional, aesthetic and spiritual development. The Whole-person Development Framework (2021-2024) focuses on building students' Body-Mind-Spirit Wellness, Life Literacy, Growing Relationships and Global Awareness. Through a wide range of programs, positive values, such as Empathy, Responsibility, Inquisitiveness, Grit, Gratitude and Justice, are instilled in our students.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education	:	Our school is committed to support students with special educational needs and lower academic performance through a whole school approach (WSA). Through resources allocation, students are provided with different support; The school works with parents through different channels to discuss strategies for supporting students. Our school has received additional resources from the Education Bureau, including: Learning Support Allowance; Whole School Approach to Integrated Education Programme. A student learning support group with special educational needs coordinator, special educational needs support teachers, student counsellor is established and the group is advised and supported by school social workers and educational psychologist. Also, a student counsellor is employed to take care of the individual differences under the WSA; Different school-based services are purchased such as Chinese, English and Mathematics after school remedial lessons, SpLD training classes, speech therapies, behavioral emotional management classes and social skill trainings to enhance their learning ability, confidence, social skills and interpersonal communication skills; Provide expressive arts therapy services are provided to relieve students' stress; Lectures on characteristics of students with SpLD are provided in junior form; Teachers take training courses about strategies for teaching students; Provide study and test adjustments to students in need.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking(NCS) Students	:	Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: providing after-school support programmes in learning Chinese; appointing additional teacher(s)/teaching assistant(s) to support NCS students’ learning of Chinese; developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting learning and teaching materials; and organising cultural integration activities.
(4) Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment	:	School-based assessment, continuous assessment and standard reference assessment are adopted in various subjects. Students with special education needs can apply for special arrangement in assessments so that their potential can be better realized.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation	:	The PTA was founded in 1998. The mission of the PTA is to enhance communication between the school and students' families to build up a partnership so as to enhance students' welfare and provide better education for our students. The PTA not only actively participates in various school matters such as help monitoring lunch catering service, but they also hold different activities such as talks, weekend gatherings, and picnics for both parents and students. The parent volunteer team also serves the school on different occasions.
(2) School Ethos	:	The school maintains good discipline and order. The Discipline Committee and school prefects help develop self-discipline among students. Our school strives to nurture our students to become responsible learners. We foster an ethos of Appreciation and Support to praise efforts and achievements in raising students’ awareness of their responsibility, strengthening students’ ability to set goals for their Personal Best (PB), to self-manage, self-monitor, self-learn and self-design their learning and career life journey. In addition, a series of activities are organized to strengthen students' resilience and their love towards their neighbours. The Guidance Committee implements different projects with the school social worker, such as 'SmarTeens', 'S.1 Bridging Program', 'Leadership Training Scheme', etc. to enhance the healthy growth of students and their integration into school life.
Future Development
(1) School Development Plan	:	2022-2024 School Development Focus-Major Concern 1: To nurture students to become Responsible Learners. Major Concern 2: To support teachers and staff to facilitate students to become Responsible Learners.
(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development	:	Our staff is a precious resource of the school and professional training is an integral part of school development. Staff members take part in various courses provided by Hong Kong, foreign educational institutes and the EDB. Growth Mindset is promoted to provide positive feedback to students for continuous effort and improvement.
Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.)	:	There are 30 extra-curricular activities groups with academic, non-academic, social service and religious foci.

Watson Group HK Student Sports Award Life Planning Education: The Career Education Team organizes life planning programs to guide students to understand their personalities and aptitudes, which help them achieve their life goals. Through various workshops and alumni sharing, students learn about their strengths and weaknesses in life planning. Career talks, visits and alumni sharing expose students to different kinds of jobs and various workplaces. Career teachers provide career guidance on setting up their further study plans and career goals. School-based curriculum (formal and informal) in life planning and career education is integrated into Life Education Lessons to guide students to know more about themselves and make an informed and rational decision on their choice of studies and careers. Study Tours: The school arranges local and overseas exchanges and study tours to widen students' horizons. We aim to provide students with life-wide learning experiences and strengthen their understanding of history, culture and development of the world from multiple perspectives in order to achieve the aims of whole-person development.
