Secondary One Admission, Orientation Activities & Healthy School Life

Secondary One Admission	:	Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2023 ).Academic performance 35%, Interview 30%, Conduct 20%, Extra-curricular activities 15%.
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life	:	To help S.1 students adapting school life in secondary school, we tailor-made a bridging programme for S.1 students. Programmes include campus visit, games, seminars, religious activities, adventure training and a day camp, etc. Regular seminars have been held to arouse students' awareness on health and hygiene. In addition, through introducing different kinds of exercise, the message of 'Stay Healthy With More Exercise' has been promoted. The school's policy is also taking the attempt to promote healthy lifestyle. Therefore, the caterer of the school is jointly selected by students, parents and teachers in order to provide a healthy and balanced diet for the students.

(2) School Management Organisation	:	The principal heads 3 committees: Student Affairs, Academic and School Development, Academic Affairs and School Administration. Each of which runs various administrative departments including students learning, curriculum development, teacher development, careers guidance, discipline & counseling, school ethos, religious affairs, positive education, extra-curricular activities, information technology, external affair, finance management, school self-evaluation and general affairs etc.

Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy	:	With emphasizing the importance of English in learning and the significance of mother-tongue teaching, we follow the objective of enhancing students' proficiency both in English and Chinese Language. Small-class teaching and curriculum tailoring are implemented to improve students' English. The school taps into various external resources, to build and renovate the English Room, introduce situational language learning and teaching, and cooperate with international schools, to help students learn English.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies	:	1. Curriculum planning responds to social development, students' needs & abilities; and keeps abreast of the latest development of education reforms; 2. Organize small class teaching; 3. Conduct student enhancement scheme and remedial teaching; 4. Develop school-based curriculum; 5. Implement IT in Ed programs and make use of information technology for teaching; 6. Promote reading and self-learning among students; 7. Learning Support Scheme implemented to help students with learning difficulties; 8. Gifted education is strategically developed to explore elite students’ thinking abilities and polish their competitiveness; 9. Adopting school-based innovation and value education curriculum, strengthening students’ moral education; 10. developing life planning education curriculum to build up students' life long learning and self-discipline development; 11. To encourage learning, we have various awards on outstanding academic performances.
(3) School-based curriculum	:	1. Electives: 2X. In the Senior Secondary Curriculum, the school offers 11 elective subjects. Two senior secondary electives are selected by students themselves according to their interests and abilities. 2. Curriculum highlights: School-based curriculum implemented to fit students' needs in learning. We also promote cross-curricular learning and teaching projects in order to help students organize learning points in different subjects.
(4) Development of the Four Key Tasks	:	Moral Education: An all-round moral education has been implemented which aims at developing students’ positive value. We have a range of themes on moral education hoping to shape our students to become a mature and responsible young adult. To build up students’ character, our school has organized multi-dimensional moral activities and various experiential learning. Life Wide Learning: Our school aims at promoting life-wide learning. In junior form, focus has been put on cross-curricular learning and teaching. For senior form, we intend to provide a variety of Other Learning Experience (OLE), including volunteer, workplace, sports, arts and religious activities, etc. in order to enhance teacher-student interaction, develop self-directed learning and broaden the horizons of our students. Extensive Reading Programme: A range of reading events such as reading Carnival has been launched. There are also school-based morning reading sessions, book sharing, library information, reading club and other inter-school reading competitions. All these have strategically built a reading environment in the school. To create a reading platform, students are encouraged to promote books and take part in interviews with writers or celebrities. This year, we started cross-curricular reading and led students to a study trip about reading culture in mainland China. Learning with Information Technology: To promote interactive learning with information technology, much resources have been put on establishing an effective, energetic and creative learning area which aims at developing students’ spirit of inquiry and creativity. In recent years, we have also shown great success and development in STEAM Education. The school is also one of the six pioneer schools of an AI education project sponsored by Jockey Club.
(5) Life Planning Education	:	Career & Life-Planning Education is initiated by the Career Guidance Team in our school. A instructor is hired in order to work for Career & Life-Planning as well as organize comprehensive career guidance activities for S.1 –S.6 students. The activities include job tasting, shadowing program, subject expo, career development assessment, life skill assessments workshops, exploring multiple pathway talks and visiting, interview workshops, peer mentorship program etc. Life-Planning Education curriculum is developed in order to help students developing life goals and better self-understanding.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity	:	Gifted students are spotted at an early stage so that students are able to receive an independent gifted curriculum in accordance with their personality, interests and learning needs. Gifted students are recommended to participate in courses offered by different organizations. The school has also been arranging those, who are gifted, to participate in activities organized by local universities, professional companies and non-government organizations, aiming at helping gifted students to learn from another perspective and helping them discover their talents, such as leadership, creativity, social skills and humanity development. In recent years, the school has actively promoted collaborative teaching and differential teaching to cater for student diversity.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education	:	The core members of the Learning Support Group include Principal, Vice Principal, SENCo, SEN Support Teacher, counsellor, subject teachers and Educational Psychologist. Our school uses the Learning Support Grant to outsource services in providing appropriate support to students. Services include individual or group Chinese writing trainings for students with speech and language disorder, interest groups and service team for unleashing students’ potentials, and social skills trainings for students with autism. The school provides appropriate exam adjustments, such as independent test venues, added exam time, use of screen-reading or voice-to-text software, etc. The school also provides class-based or group inclusive activities to promote inclusive culture accordingly. In addition, there are support measures such as after-school support classes, career and life planning activities. The school works closely with the school-based Educational Psychologist, to regularly assess the S.1 students with special needs. Individual learning plans for students with more serious needs will also be developed, with relevant personnel to meet on regular basis to review the programme effectiveness. Parents Night is organized to introduce to S.1 students’ parents the school’s support measures, and to provide a communication platform to promote home-school cooperation, while also disseminating Learning Support Profile on Parents Day, for parents to have a better grasp of the support measures their children have been receiving.
(4) Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment	:	Examinations are scheduled 3 times a year, with Revision Weeks to help students prepare for exams. For students with learning difficulties, the school will arrange adjustments, such as magnifying exam papers, extending exam time, using screen-reading software, etc. while students sit for exams. Exam skills training and guidance prior to exams will also be provided.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation	:	We provide different channels for parents to meet our teachers to improve communication. Various activities such as workshops, talks and family activities etc are held in school. To enhance parent-teacher cooperation and show the school’s concern upon students, a home visit will be arranged for S.1 and individual students. Through visits, the school is able to recognise the need of each student and family and offer suitable assistance. To facilitate parents and schools’ cooperation, class teachers contact parents regularly through phone calls.
(2) School Ethos	:	1. An austere school environment. Students are well-behaved and respectful. 2. With a team of passionate and considerate teachers, the school has continuously been awarded the honour of Caring School. 3. Students are continually encouraged to participate in voluntary service inside and outside school so as to train their leadership. 4. More than 20 interests groups provide a platform for students to discover their potentiality. 5. A religious ambience of the school with a wide range of fruitful activities held by fellowship encourages the development of a whole person. 6. Voluntary services outside school among students are always encouraged. A number of awards have been received.

Lesson studies, sharing and preparation held among subject teachers; 4. Conduct peer observations for teaching improvement.
Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.)	:	We are currently having more than 20 interest groups and clubs to help students develop their multi-intelligence in different areas including music and popular culture, applied learning, arts and crafts, intelligence, information technology and sports. Our school has also organized various community services which aim at raising students’ awareness on caring upon the society and nurturing them a positive value and spirit of service. We have been collaborating with different service providers and organizing activities, such as community visits, elderly caring, projects on raising awareness of poverty, voluntary teaching programme in China. We also recommend students to take part in training sessions and educational activities organized by UNICEF HK. The establishment of Sea Cadets and Girl Guides in our school is to develop students’ responsibility and confidence through a variety of training on team building.
Others	:	Students have been participating in numerous inter-school competitions. Our students have been nominated outstanding leaders. Meanwhile, their brilliant performances in science and technology, mathematics, speech, reading and writing, visual arts and sports have frequently been awarded. For years, our school emphasizes on providing a caring environment for students. Hence, our school is awarded School of Hope (Caring School Award Scheme). In addition, our school is awarded Caring Teachers, Caring Team and All-rounded Caring Teachers in “A Healthy Harmonious and Caring Campus Award Scheme”. Apart from this, our teachers’ efforts in Information Technology, Visual Arts and Business and Financial Management have highly been recognized in the public.

Remarks	:	Our school promotes small-class teaching, channeling extra resources to split original structure of 3 or 4 classes into 4 or 5 in each form, to provide more comprehensive care to students. With the funding from Project WeCan over the years, students are provided with a variety of learning opportunities. Our school has also collaborated with Jockey Club Charities Trust and CUHK, started a programme on advocating students’ positive value “JC-PEAR”. Moreover, our school became one of the partner schools of Jockey Club’s Trust-Initiated Project - CLAP for Youth.
