Secondary One Admission, Orientation Activities & Healthy School Life

Secondary One Admission	:	Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2023 ).The admission criteria and weightings for S.1 discretionary places: Academic performance (60%); Non-academic performance (extra-curricular activities/services) (5%); Performance in the interview (35%).
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life	:	S.1 Bridging Course, Scheme for Adaptation to Secondary School Life for S.1 and S.1 Orientation Day Students are encouraged to purchase healthy lunch boxes from the authorized supplier or bring their own lunch boxes. We closely monitor the quality of the food sold at the school tuck shop in order to help maintain the good health of our students.

(2) School Management Organisation	:	Our school adopts School-based Management. The administrative structure comprises four main areas, Academics, Student Affairs, School Administration and Resources Development and over 20 functional groups.
(3) Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee	:	The Incorporated Management Committee (IMC) was established in February 2006. The composition of the IMC includes the representatives from the sponsoring body, the principal, teachers, parents, alumni and independent community members. The direct participation in school decision-making and the input of these key stakeholders help enhance the transparency and accountability of the school governance and contribute to a more effective school operation.
(4) School Green Policy	:	To echo the society's increasing concern for environmental protection, we implement environmental policies to promote energy saving and waste recycling, and encourage green lifestyle among students. For instance, we use energy-efficient electrical appliances, water saving devices, monitor the usage of electricity, carry out Student Environment Protection Ambassador Scheme' and 'Energy Saving Scheme'.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy	:	The school has put much emphasis on the implementation of biliteracy and trilingaulism, especially our students' English standard. English as the medium of instructions has been adopted in all subjects in all forms (except Chinese Language, Chinese History, Putonghua, Chinese Literature, senior form Visual Arts and Liberal Studies). Putonghua is taught as a separate subject (2 lessons per week) and is also adopted as the medium of instruction in Chinese Language subject in some classes. In order to strengthen the English Language Arts education and better prepare our students for the NSS, English Language Arts is offered in junior form.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies	:	Measures for enhancing learning and teaching effectiveness are as follows: 1. To enhance teaching effectiveness, peer lesson observation and collaborative lesson planning are implemented. 2. To nurture students’ abilities to think independently and make sound judgments, diversified teaching and learning strategies and project learning are adopted. 3. To arouse students’ interest in reading and promote a good reading atmosphere in school, we carry out the Morning Reading Scheme, the Extensive Reading Scheme and Reading Award Scheme for Junior Form Students. Various activities, like book exhibitions, visits to the Central Library and talks conducted by writers, are also held to promote reading by the School Library.
(3) School-based curriculum	:	1. Electives: 2X and 3X. According to the interest and abilities of the students. 2. Curriculum highlights: Curriculum planning: (1) The curriculum for junior forms is well-designed and diversified. For example, Accounts Fundamental is provided in Form Two. (2) For senior forms, the school offers arts, science, commercial and Applied Learning subjects to cater for students' interest as well as their learning and career needs.
(4) Development of the Four Key Tasks	:	The school has fully implemented the four key tasks: (1) Organize morning reading session, participate in online reading programme and adopt "Extensive Reading" Scheme to cultivate students' reading habit and to promote a reading culture. (2) Information technology equipment and the school intranet system have been well established to develop effective teaching and learning strategies. (3) Interdisciplinary project learning helps students to develop their generic skills. (4) A specific theme of moral and civic education is set every year. Elements of moral and civic education are incorporated into many other learning experiences, such as class periods, assemblies, visits, and forum. Student civic ambassadors help to implement various activities.
(5) Life Planning Education	:	The Careers Committee arranges different activities to help our students in career and life planning. The activities include organizing school-based career EXPO, conducting vocational aptitude test for the students and recruiting experienced retired teachers to provide individual counselling services for all S.4 to S.6 students on career and life planning.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity	:	Small group learning aims to enhance students' motivation through interaction and collaboration. Besides, teachers develop different teaching methods and materials to deal with students with different abilities in order to stretch their potentials and to arouse their learning interests. Students are encouraged to participate in various kinds of extracurricular activities.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education	:	Our school has adopted the Whole School Approach (WSA) to integrated education (IE) based on five underlying principles, namely early identification, early intervention, WSA, home-school co-operation and cross-sector collaboration. With the active cooperation of an educational psychologist, a clinical psychologist, two school social workers, the Student Support Team and the Counselling Committee, we have developed effective strategies to support our students with special needs and safeguard the mental health of our teachers and students. Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) is tasked with integrating the resources and strengthening the liaison between the teachers of different subject panels and external professionals in order to provide educational activities and counseling service for our students with special needs. Besides, our school organizes Home-school forums, Christmas Dinner, small group meetings and WhatsAapp groups for parents of Form 1 students. Individual parents may receive phone calls or meet our teachers in person as necessary. To give further support to the students and their families in need, after-school remedial classes are arranged 5 days a week on a regular basis and “Revision Classes” are conducted during the Uniform Tests and Examinations to provide extra support to our students. Our school has also joined the Healthy School Programme and the Challenge Unlimited Quadratic Scheme. Together with a variety of extra-curricular activities, we aim to encourage our students from different family backgrounds to establish friendship, accept one another and foster an inclusive and harmonious culture in our school campus.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking(NCS) Students	:	Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: providing after-school support programmes in learning Chinese; appointing additional teacher(s)/teaching assistant(s) to support NCS students’ learning of Chinese; arranging intensive Chinese learning and teaching mode(s), e.g. pull-out learning if necessary, split-class/group learning, etc.; developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting learning and teaching materials; and organising cultural integration activities.
(4) Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment	:	F.1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 students are required to take 2 examinations and 2 uniform tests during the year besides daily assessments. F.6 students are required to have daily assessment and take 1 examination.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation	:	All parents are members of the Parents-Teachers' Association (PTA). The PTA committee members and IMC parent managers are elected among themselves. They represent all parents and participate in school decision making. Together with the parent volunteer team and parent network, they help enhance home-school communication. The PTA organises different activities regularly, such as the parent support group, interest class, family picnic, annual dinner, parents and teachers lunch gathering and the newsletter publishing etc. The PTA also provides subsidies and emergency financial assistance to students in need.
(2) School Ethos	:	We create a positive and harmonious ethos, practise strict discipline and prepare students to be independent and self-motivated learners. We place equal emphasis on moral education, discipline and counselling. Counselling teachers, social worker and educational psychologist collaborate with each other to provide guidance to students.
Future Development
(1) School Development Plan	:	The three-year development plan (2022/23-2024/25): 1) To enhance learning & teaching effectiveness and improve students’ academic performance. 2) To strengthen the whole-person developmental support for students. 3) To strengthen the inheritance of the professional knowledge of the school organisation
(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development	:	The school puts emphasis on the professional development of teachers. All teachers have to attend the School-Based Staff Development Day every year. Teachers also participate in different seminars and workshops organized by the EDB, tertiary institutes and professional bodies, depending on their interests and needs.
Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.)	:	The school offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. There are over 40 clubs and groups, including academic disciplines, interests, school teams and community services. Throughout the year, we organize numerous activities and events, such as athletic meets, music competitions, exchange activities, leadership training programmes and visits, etc. We also encourage our students to take part in different contests, such as verse speaking, debate, music, dance, drama and sports, which are organized by local and overseas institutions.
