Secondary One Admission, Orientation Activities & Healthy School Life

Secondary One Admission	:	Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2023 ).Applicants must be awarded Grade B or above for conduct in Primary 5 and 6. Academic results: 50%; Performance in interview: 20%; Conduct and manners: 15%; Performance in extra-curricular activities: 15%
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life	:	To better prepare our new students for their secondary school life, the school organises S.1 Bridging Programme and S.1 Parents' Day. Various extra-curricular activities are also available for our pre-S.1 students during the summer holidays. In order to raise students' awareness on health issues, the school's Health Education Team regularly holds a wide range of activities like the Fruit Day, health talks, exhibitions and education programmes regarding balanced diet and different infectious diseases. The school also arranges health education seminars and talks for teachers, parents and students to enrich their knowledge on healthy lifestyle.

School Management
(1)School's Major Concerns	:	1. To promote professional development of teachers and to enhance the leadership of the middle management 2. (2) School Management Organisation	:	We employ a school-based management approach with the Principal as the head. Different functional groups, like the Studies Department, Discipline Department, Guidance and Counselling Department, Career Department, Extra-Curricular Activity Department, Moral Education Department, Civic Education Department and General Affairs Department, work closely with each other on a form basis to cater for the needs of our students.
(3) Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee	:	Our school has implemented school-based management since 1997. The School Advisory Committee was set up under the supervision of the School Management Committee. In response to the operation of the Education (Amendment) Ordinance 2004, our school set up an IMC on 1 Feb 2006. The IMC consists of representatives from different stakeholders. The IMC holds three meetings a year for major decision making regarding school planning, evaluation of teaching and learning effectiveness, and management of financial and human resources. Its ultimate aims are to help the school maintain its long-term development and enhance the transparency and accountability of the school management.
(4) School Green Policy	:	As our school places great importance on greening the campus, greenery is planted to decorate the school. In addition, we support various recycling programmes and encourage our teachers, staff members and students to make good use of different resources.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy	:	Our school emphasizes biliteracy and tri-lingualism. Extra resources have been allocated to promote language learning. During Chinese and English language lessons, students are streamed into small groups so that students' diverse needs could be catered and more effective strategies could be employed to enhance the language standard of the students. In some groups of our junior form classes, Mathematics and Science are taught in English. The school regularly organises extended learning activities to boost students' interest in language learning. To enhance students' proficiency in Putonghua, the school offers Putonghua lessons in all junior forms.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies	:	We endeavour to create a congenial learning environment for the students' all-round development. Various field trips to museums, science centres and overseas study tours make learning possible inside and outside of classrooms. This promotes self-directed learning and broadens students' horizons. By carefully planning the depth and breadth of our curriculum and using Chinese as the medium of instruction, we strive to cater for the levels and needs of our students. The school also utilises information technology to facilitate students' acquisition of knowledge. Reading classes are arranged in junior forms to help students develop learning and reading strategies. We encourage our students to read regularly and extensively so as to broaden their horizons. In addition to the extensive reading scheme in English Language and Chinese Language subjects, the school library organises book exhibition and inter-house reading competition to foster students' reading habit. Morning reading class and inter-school writing competition are in place to reinforce students' creativity and their interest in reading.
(3) School-based curriculum	:	1. Electives: 3X. Students can choose 3 out of 11 elective subjects. 2. Curriculum highlights: In order to cater for the learning needs of students at different levels, our school has utilised additional resources and employed different teaching strategies. For students with learning difficulties, they will be allocated to remedial groups of a smaller class size. In order to assist the students to catch up with their fellow classmates, we tailor our curriculum and organise tutorial classes for the students. Apart from the formal academic curriculum, our school also stresses the importance of mental development of our students. The Discipline Department and the Counselling and Guidance Department join hands to organise a wide range of activities to support students' growth and development so that students understand the significance of respecting themselves, others and regulations. It is expected that all-round development can be achieved among our students.
(4) Development of the Four Key Tasks	:	Self-directed learning programme: The Self-access Learning Center helps promote self-directed learning among junior forms in the school. IT pedagogy: Interactive teaching and learning atmosphere is developed through the help of information technology. Moral and Civic Education: A wide range of moral and civic education activities are frequently held on a class basis. Promotion of Reading: Reading award scheme is launched to encourage students to read extensively. The elements of the four key tasks are immersed into the curriculum of individual subjects.
(5) Life Planning Education	:	In order to cater for students’ developmental needs, our school has implemented a Life Planning Education curriculum for students across all forms. Besides career-related learning in the classroom, students can have better career exploration by participating in various activities, such as, workshops, visits, talks and work attachment. Students are expected to hone the skills to be confident job seekers, having good understanding of themselves, their own career goals and the workplace. Together with the training on self management skills we provide to students, it is hoped that they will be able to cope with the transition from school to workplace.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity	:	The school arranges common lessons of certain subjects for different classes in the same form so that students can be streamed into groups with a smaller class size based on their levels. On top of that, subject-based measures and differentiated teaching strategies have been adopted to support students’ diverse learning needs. Regular remedial and enhancement programmes are organised so that every individual in the school can be provided with adequate support. The Student Supporting Team supports SEN students.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education	:	Adopting a whole school approach, we are committed to building an inclusive school culture in which students with special educational needs are supported. With different types of subsidies from our sponsoring body and the school, we endeavour to provide a variety of appropriate support services to enhance students’ learning effectiveness and improve their social skills so that they can better enjoy their school life. Our Student Support Team is set up to cater for the diversified needs of SEN students. The core members of the team include the Principal, the Vice-principal, the Special Educational Needs Coordinator, the SEN Support Teachers, the Educational Psychologist from the school's sponsoring body, the School-based Speech Therapist, the Assistant Social Work Officer, teachers from different departments and a teaching assistant. Working closely with other functional units and subjects, the team formulates inclusive policy to support students’ learning. Diversified and all-round supporting and services are provided to SEN students. One-on-one speech therapy, individual and small group art therapy sessions, and Individualised Education Programmes are also available. On top of that, the school hires professional service providers to help students improve their social skills. Inclusion Week is introduced with a view to promoting the message of embracing inclusion in school.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking(NCS) Students	:	Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: providing after-school support programmes in learning Chinese; developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting learning and teaching materials; and organising cultural integration activities. We provide additional support for non-Chinese students to facilitate their learning of Chinese. Our support measures include after-school educational support programmes and peer support. Cultural integration activities are organised regularly for the purpose of assisting them to adapt to school life.
(4) Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment	:	Two formal tests and two examinations are held every school year. Students' academic performance is also assessed by their performance in homework, quizzes and projects regularly.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation	:	The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) has been established for nearly two decades. The PTA organises a myriad of activities with the aim of enhancing communications, education and cohesion. Additionally, the school's social worker regularly assists the PTA in the running of parents workshops under the programme, “Along with you”. Through talks, games, role-playing activities and day camps, parents are offered opportunities to better understand their children and the transitional changes they may encounter in secondary schools. Other PTA activities, for instance, parent-child outings, sharing sessions with teachers and for students taking HKDSE, rice dumpling making classes are most welcomed by parents and students.
(2) School Ethos	:	We have fine and pure ethos. The Guidance and Counselling Department launches "Mutual Growth Award Scheme" with different activities to foster growth and development of both the S.1 students and students from the senior forms taking care of them. In order to develop students' leadership and support their all-round development, we encourage our students to be student leaders and take up different roles at the school, for instance, Student Prefects, Student Librarians and Moral and Civic Education Ambassadors. Talks and activities on national education, moral and civic education, value education and sex education are regularly organised during school assemblies.

(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development	:	Professional development days are organised by TWGHs and the school. Teachers are encouraged to participate in different education seminars, workshops or courses to keep abreast of the development in their professional fields and the education industry and to ensure the quality of education.
Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.)	:	The four categories of extra-curricular activities are academic, interest, sports and service. There are also language week, subject exhibition, moral and civic Education week, health education exhibition, education camp, leadership training course, study tours, inter-house competitions, Sports Day, Inter-School Competition and different summer activities.
Others	:	Our school offers a myriad of awards to encourage our students to excel. Students who have outstanding academic achievements would be awarded the ‘Academic Achievement Award’, ‘Subject Achievement Award’ or the ‘Most Improved Student Award’. Students excelling in athletics or other areas would be presented the ‘Outstanding Athlete Award’, or ‘Outstanding Service Award’. Other awards sponsored by the Parent Teacher Association are given to students. They are the ‘PTA Scholarship’, ‘PTA Most-improved Student Scholarship’ and the ‘PTA Conduct Award' for students with good academic achievement, improvement in English language subject and good conduct. Furthermore, the school body would recommend students with all-round achievement to participate in and compete for the ‘Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund’, the ‘Yau Tze Tin Memorial Scholarship’ or the ‘TWGHs Support Scheme for Elite Sports and Art Students’ etc. In terms of exchange programmes, our school regularly organizes overseas study tours.
