Secondary One Admission, Orientation Activities & Healthy School Life

Secondary One Admission	:	Our school will not participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2024 ).Form 1 Admission Phase 1 Application period is from November to December. Applicants will be assessed based on the following criteria: Academic performance in primary school, interviews, self-introduction recording, accomplishment in ECA and conduct.
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life	:	Introductory videos on school campus and Form 1 subjects will be released to new Form 1 students in June while Orientation Day and Form 1 Parents Day are held during the summer holiday and in early September respectively. Our school provides students with positive education, life education, diversified co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, as well as life-wide learning activities.

(1)School's Major Concerns	:	1. To elevate academic performance by strengthening STEAM education with student-centered strategies and refining learning and teaching methodologies through teachers’ professional sharing. 2. To further groom students to become self-disciplined, respectful and responsible leaders with strong compassion. 3. To strengthen career exploration and planning for building up clear aspiration and personal development goals in both local and global contexts.
(2) School Management Organisation	:	We set up different committees so that the work in school affairs, academic affairs, career and life-planning, moral, civic and national education, student affairs, I.T., staff development, discipline, guidance, extra-curricular activities, STEAM education development and IBDP can be well administered.
(3) Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee	:	Our Incorporated Management Committee includes: the school supervisor, six managers of school sponsoring body, the school principal, 2 teacher managers, 2 parent managers, an alumni manager and an independent manager.
(4) School Green Policy	:	1. Our school canteen has a kitchen where lunch can be prepared in proportion to students' demand. Leftovers can be reduced and an environmentally friendly eating habit can be promoted. 2. We promote an appropriate use of paper and energy conservation. Recycling bins are provided on campus and students are encouraged to bring their own cutlery. 3. We will implement an automated equipment management system in classrooms to manage the classroom environment and optimize the equipment in the classrooms to save energy and reduce carbon footprints.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy	:	English and Putonghua are our school languages. Students are required to communicate with teachers in English and Putonghua on campus. English is our medium of instruction. Chinese language lessons are conducted in Putonghua at S.1 as well as S.2 and selected classes at S.3 onwards. To enhance students’ language proficiency, we encourage our students to take part in international language examinations. Every year, a variety of language programmes such as drama, musical, debating and public speaking are organised to enrich our language learning environment.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies	:	Our spiral curriculum encompasses reading scheme, project learning, I.T. in learning and value education. We also nurture higher order thinking skills across all key learning areas. Developing students’ good learning habit is also one of our major concerns. In recent years, effort is made in devising differentiation strategies and nurturing a self-directed learning ethos to better cater for different needs of students.
(3) School-based curriculum	:	1. Electives: 2X and 3X. We also offer Mathematics (Module 1) and Mathematics (Module 2) for students to choose. 2. Curriculum highlights: We offer a comprehensive curriculum to cater for different personal, academic and developmental needs of students. The curriculum design facilitates further studies, careers development and life-long learning. Our curriculum prepares students for the HKDSE examination. Our school provides International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in senior secondary which widens the path for further studies and career development for students. Remarks: The school fee for International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is different from that of the local curriculum.
(4) Major Renewed Emphases in the School Curriculum	:	Reading to learn, I.T. in learning, moral, civic and national education and project learning are integrated into different key learning areas.
(5) Life Planning Education	:	Life Education lessons are provided to ensure that students’ developmental needs are well catered at all levels. Form 3 students are given career planning workshops so that they can make informed choices for senior secondary education. Career-related activities such as seminars and workshops are organised for senior form students to enhance their understanding about university admission and career planning.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity	:	Other than remedial and enhancement measures, we emphasise differentiation to ensure that individuals' talents can be developed to the fullest.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education	:	We offer assistance to students with SEN, in terms of assessment accommodation, deployment of human resources and social adaptation, etc. The school has appointed a teacher as the SENCO to coordinate SEN work and formed a professional and caring team of social workers to provide student support work.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students	:	Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: arranging intensive Chinese learning and teaching mode(s), e.g. pull-out learning if necessary, split-class/group learning, etc.; developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting learning and teaching materials; and organising activities to create an inclusive learning environment in the school. Appropriate Chinese and French curriculums are offered to all non-Chinese speaking students. Students will take part in internationally recognized language examinations (e.g. GCSE, GCE (AS) Chinese, DELF and HKDSE) in senior secondary.
(4) Measures to provide adaptation for learning and assessment	:	We have our formative and summative assessments to monitor students’ learning progress. In addition to assignments, tests and examinations, students' learning is assessed by project work, class participation and reflective journals, etc.
(5) Fee Remission	:	Our school offers full school fee remission or 1/2 school fee remission. Needy students, including those from families receiving the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) and students receiving financial assistance provided by the Student Financial Assistance Agency (SFAA) could apply for fee remission. - Newly admitted students could apply for the school fee remission after 4 week(s) of commencement of the new school year. Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation	:	Every year the PTA organises various activities such as tea parties, lunch gatherings, seminars and workshops so as to foster home-school cooperation and enhance parent-child communication.
(2) School Ethos	:	We are dedicated to creating sunshine school ethos and nurturing caring and respectful teenagers with positive values through student counseling, moral, civic and national education, life education lessons, career guidance and life-planning workshops, guidance week, leadership training, Other Learning Experience Week, class teacher periods and parent-child activities.
Future Development

(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development	:	Every year, Staff Development Committee organises staff development workshops and visits to other schools, as well as sharing sessions with administrators and teaching professionals in the education sector. We also encourage continuous professional development of our staff by offering study subsidies.
Life-wide Learning (including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be provided through Key Learning Areas, extra-curricular activities, co-curricular activities, etc.)	:	Our diversified extra-curricular activities, which enable students to achieve their potentials, include swimming, rope skipping, fencing, harp ensemble, Scottish bagpipes, handbell, handchimes, handpan, African drum and dance, Boys and Girls Scouts, Red Cross, English musical, astronomy club, underwater robot training workshops, etc. We also organise interest classes, for example, Japanese, French, magic, dance, chess club and board games, 3D pen drawing, comic drawing, a cappella as well as app design. Inter-house competitions and activities organised by our Student Union and four Houses are also regularly held throughout the year.
Others	:	Scholarship: Our school awards scholarship to high achievers in both academic and non-academic areas in each academic year. Our inquiry-based learning fosters innovative technology education. The remarkable inventions of our Robotics Team Smart Eyewear I-Vista and Smart Curtain were awarded 1st Runner-up in the Senior Division of Hong Kong Students Science Project Competition and 2nd Runner-up in the Hong Kong Product Design Makeathon respectively. The Team also won the Overall Champion in the 12th CTEA Cup Robotic Tournament Creative Technology Robotic Competition Electronic Innovative Design Contest (Secondary Section). In 2022, our Physics STEAM team designed and built a model of an intelligent trolley which aims at improving the quality of life of the elderly, being awarded with the overall Second Prize in the Design and Proposal (Physics and Engineering) Senior Division. Our LEGO STEAM Team was awarded The First Prize Award and The Third Prize Award in the 16th CTEA Cup Robotic Tournament Creative Technology Robotic Competition in the same year. The FunGsorb Capsule invented by our Biology Research Team received 2nd Prize in the Environmental Science Division of the Hong Kong Youth Science & Technology Innovation Competition, 2nd Class Award in the 33rd China Adolescents Science & Technology Innovation Contest (Energy and Environment Stream) in Chongqing, and also 1st Runner-up in HKBU Science Festival Innovative Solution for Future Competition. Our Chemistry researchers actively joined symposia in England, Singapore, Hawaii, New Zealand and USA to present their findings. Having represented Hong Kong at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles, our Chemistry Research Team participated in the 7th European Chemical Science Chemistry Congress in Liverpool to make presentations on their study about the Formulation of Turmeric and Green Tea to Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease, and also Synthesis of High Oil-affinity Ester Molecules used as Household Detergents. In 2022, they won the Champion for a Lipstick Product in a cosmetic competition. Our invention was further recognised in CityU Science Patent Challenge 2022, receiving the Silver Award as well as a Patent in Hong Kong. To cultivate international mindedness and global perspectives, students joined different overseas exchange tours for other learning experiences and all-round development, such as Exchange Tours to Beijing, Shandong, Laos, Singapore, New Zealand and France, Science Study Tours in Tokyo and Jiangxi, World Scholar’s Cup (Global Round) in Melbourne, World Scholar’s Cup (Tournament of Championship) at Yale University, USA and Global LAB Global Final in Vietnam. Our English Debating Team and Chinese Debating Team have been finalists of different debate contests. We also won champions in events like Solo Verse Speaking, Solo Prose Reading, Dramatic Scenes, etc. in the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival. Our English Musical Team was awarded the Adjudicators' Award and invited to stage a public performance at Yuen Long Theatre. Non-academically, our Athletic Team, Basketball Team, Cross Country Team, Football Team, Table Tennis Team and Rope Skipping Team make impressive results in inter-school and territory-wide competitions every year. Our Swimming Team has got 11 overall champions and 3 first runners-up in Po Leung Kuk Affiliated Secondary Schools Joint Swimming Gala for 14 consecutive years. Our Handbell Team, Handchimes Team, Bagpipe Band, Harp Ensemble, Western Ensemble, African Drummers, African Dancers, Tap Dancers and Saxophonists are brilliant performers and winners in territory-wide events. Our Handbell and Handchimes Team gains championship in Hong Kong Handbell Festival for consecutive years and the team was invited to have public performance in local as well as national mega events. We have organised 14 Annual Concerts to showcase the multi-talents of our students and the fruitful harvest of our all-round education.
