Learning and Teaching Plan | ||
(1) Whole-school Language Policy | : | Our school places great emphasis on biliteracy and trilingualism. English is used as the medium of instruction in different classes and subjects. Additionally, English Across the Curriculum is implemented in selected subjects (please refer to the information on "Subjects Offered in the 2023/24 School Year" and "Subjects to be Offered in the 2024/25 School Year"). Specialized English courses such as English Literature and Media English are also offered as part of our distinctive curriculum. Moreover, our school hires additional native English teachers to create an English-learning environment. |
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies | : | We offer school-based courses to train students in critical thinking from multiple perspectives, such as Media English and English Literature, aiming to enhance both their learning and teaching abilities. Our school is dedicated to strengthening the English learning environment for students. In addition to offering school-based English and Media English courses, we collaborate with Toastmasters International to promote English public speaking skills. Simultaneously, our school places great emphasis on promoting reading through school-wide initiatives, designated reading periods, and book recommendations to enhance students' reading abilities. In recent years, our school has actively participated in curriculum reform activities organized by the Education Bureau. This includes implementing the English Seed Project and receiving leadership support for language curriculum development. To facilitate student learning, our school has established a campus-wide wireless network and equipped classrooms with tablet computers. By promoting e-learning, we aim to foster students' autonomy and allow students with outstanding potential or different talents to flourish. In terms of STEM education, our school has developed school-based curriculum, which includes robotics programming, mobile application development, virtual reality, augmented reality, 3D modeling and printing, and game development. Our curriculum design in the STEM field focuses on incorporating interdisciplinary elements, combining Science, Art, Design & Technology, and Mathematics courses to enhance students' cross-disciplinary learning abilities. |
(3) School-based curriculum | : | 1. Electives: 3X. English Literature and Media English are included as a school-based junior secondary curriculum. 2. Curriculum highlights: Our school has successfully applied for the Education Bureau's "e-Learning School Support Program" and provides wireless network coverage and tablet computers throughout the school to promote self-directed learning and the implementation of e-learning, thus enhancing learning effectiveness. Additionally, our school places importance on fostering students' general capabilities through cooperative learning. Students have participated in the "Fun With Learning" project-based competition and have won the overall championship multiple times, affirming their research abilities. Our school is committed to creating an English learning environment and offers two school-based courses, English Literature and Media English. It also organizes extended activities in English classrooms, such as English Day, speech training, and drama performances. Furthermore, overseas study tours are conducted every year, providing students with opportunities to engage in in-depth exchanges with locals in countries like the UK and Australia, thus enhancing their English proficiency and understanding of the local culture. Moreover, our school caters to students with diverse learning styles by continuously adjusting the curriculum and implementing scaffolded teaching. In terms of gifted education, the school has implemented a school-based gifted program, cultivating the strengths of gifted students starting from Form 1. The school also recommends and supports students to participate in gifted programs organized by universities based on their grade level and abilities, providing them with opportunities to interact with elite students from different schools. Students from the biology, science, and mathematics subjects have achieved excellent results, receiving first-class awards in the Olympiad competitions. |
(4) Major Renewed Emphases in the School Curriculum | : | Assessment for learning: Our school is committed to promoting assessment for learning. Teachers utilize test and exam data analysis to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness. By analyzing students' performance in public exams and internal assessments, we are able to identify students' learning difficulties. Additionally, our school conducts systematic collaborative lesson planning sessions to conduct detailed analysis and develop appropriate strategies to help improve students' academic performance. Reading: Reading Promotion Team is responsible for coordinating and organizing school reading activities. Activities like Morning Reading Session and book sharing boost reading atmosphere of the school with great success. Information Technology: The STEM LAB and Innovative Space has been established to promote students' and teachers' knowledge in the areas of Science, Maths and Technology. Remarks | : | Students are free to choose from different Applied Learning courses so as to learn new knowledge and skill outside traditional framework. The most popular courses include Child Care and Education, Railway Studies, Western Cuisine, Cosmetology, Computer Games and Animation Design, Film and Video, Foundation in Chinese Medicine, and Hotel Operations. With outstanding performance, a number of our students have achieved' pass with distinction' in HKDSE which helps their future studies.
