Message from CHSC Chairman

December 2024

Dear Parents,

I am delighted to present the Secondary School Profiles (SSP) 2024/2025. Alongside the printed version, an online edition is available (https://www.chsc.hk/secondary/en) for your easy access to school information.

The SSP serves as an extensive guide to over 400 local secondary schools, featuring essential information on school mission, school facilities, teaching staff, class structure, subjects offered, student support, as well as learning and teaching plans such as language policy. To choose a suitable school for children, it is important for parents to communicate with their children, find out more about their personality, abilities, interests and aspirations, and consider factors such as the school’s educational philosophy, curriculum design and direction of development.

Besides making reference to the SSP, parents may also attend secondary school talks or activities organised by individual schools to learn deeper about school admission mechanisms and the school characteristics, and seek professional advice from principals and teachers. Furthermore, parents can attend parents’ talks on “Choices of Secondary Schools” organised by the Education Bureau to learn more about the Secondary School Places Allocation System.

As children transit to secondary school, they will face numerous changes and challenges, and will need to cope with both academic and developmental stress. The family serves as a crucial anchor for children. A harmonious family relationship provides a nurturing environment that enables children to thrive. I recommend parents to spend time each day connecting with children, listening to their thoughts, needs and feelings, nurturing children with a proactive and positive outlook, and standing by them on their journey of growth.

I encourage parents to maintain close and good communication with the school when children enter secondary school and to make time to participate in activities organised by the school and the Parent-Teacher Association. These efforts will help parents stay informed about children’s school life, build stronger connections with the school, teachers and other parents, and foster a spirit of home-school co-operation. With close and effective home-school co-operation, I hope we can foster a healthy and joyful learning environment for all children.

Lastly, I wish you harmony, happiness and good health in your family.

Chairman of the Committee on Home-School Co-operation
