Orientation Activities and Healthy Life | : | Orientation Day for 'New Secondary One Students and Parents is arranged to foster parents' and students' understanding of the school. The 'Secondary One bridging course’ and 'Promotion to Secondary One Oriented course’ comprise a diversified learning bridging programme for new Secondary One students. (1) Whole-school Language Policy | : | The School primarily adopts mother-tongue teaching and focuses on enhancing our students' competency in English. The English department strives to promote an English learning environment, such as organising Summer Immersion Programmes in Vancouver and the UK, to provide more opportunities for students to be exposed to English. Putonghua lessons are arranged in junior forms to nurture the fluency in Putonghua and raise their confidence in communicating with others. |
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies | : | A student-centered approach is adopted as our school prioritises students' abilities and interests to boost their academic achievements. The junior form curriculum caters students’ diverse needs. After-school tutoring support is provided as one of the support strategies in differential teaching, to maximise student’s potential. The school offers various subjects in senior forms, including Applied Learning, to cater different learning interests. Extensive Reading programs are promoted to foster a love for reading and enhancement in language abilities. Reading reward coupons are rewarded to students for them to redeem their favourite books during school book fairs. BYOD is promoted to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness through technology, fostering inter-class interaction, self-directed learning, development of problem-solving, and collaboration skills. |

This includes life planning seminars, career guidance strategies, selection of selecting subjects, workplace experience, workplace sharing with experts and the business sector as well as different types of services. (1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity | : | Our school provides comprehensive support for students at different stages of their education. Language foundation courses: support students with inferior language competency, helping them continuously work for improvement. Focused study group: Students are divided into small study groups intra-class to inspire them to work for continuous improvement. Catering for learning diversity, the school provides student grouping and collaborative teaching for junior-form students, and medium-class and small-class teaching are provided to senior-form students. Students benefit from the lower teacher-to-student ratio. Students can choose senior secondary elective subjects based on their interests and abilities, ensuring optimal learning outcomes. The school has a Speech Therapy Team to improve students’ talking ability. A Social Skill Group was implemented to enhance their interpersonal skills. Social workers are stationed in the school to provide counselling service for students. The school has arranged adaptation programs and English courses for newly arrived students. |
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education | : | The school provides various support and services to foster an inclusive and harmonious campus culture. External services, including speech therapy and social training groups, are available to meet diverse student needs. The Student Support Team, consisting of a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), trained teachers, educational psychologist and social workers, collaborates with frontline teachers to enhance teaching standards to tiered support students. We employ a school-based approach with flexible resource allocation to support students with special educational needs. Core subject teachers adopt differential teaching strategies, emphasise and consolidate key teaching points to tiered support students, consolidating their foundations. Home-school cooperation is highly valued, with counseling teachers maintaining close communication with parents to understand students' needs. We offer adaptation courses for new students, conduct parent workshops to exchange educational ideas and gather feedback. |
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students | : | Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: appointing additional teacher(s)/teaching assistant(s) to support NCS students’ learning of Chinese; developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting learning and teaching materials; and organising activities to create an inclusive learning environment in the school. Our school is going to utilse the Grant for Supporting Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) provided by the Education Bureau to further support in NCS students with SEN in learning. |
(4) Measures to Provide Adaptation for Learning and Assessment | : | Various types of assessments are implemented. Regular tests, assignments, oral reports, experimenting activities and project learning are included to assess the overall academic performances of students. Students can track their learning progress clearly. To consolidate students’ learning outcome, 2 uniform tests and 2 examinations per year are arranged. Post examination evaluation days are arranged to provide feedback for students, review learning and teaching effectiveness and adjust teaching strategies accordingly. Our school adopts competence-based class grouping policy to reduce learner diversity within classes. This policy is also an effective way for teachers to adapt the curriculum, design appropriate assignments to consolidate students’ learning and teaching effectiveness. |
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos | ||
(1) Home-School Co-operation | : | The school has developed a partnership with parents in trust and openness. In order to let parents understand more about the learning situations of their children, they are encouraged to participate in the School's administration. The school organises various kinds of forums, including S.1 new students and parents' orientation day, PTA Annual General Meeting and breakfast meetings with the principal. To coordinate with the development of Other Learning Experiences (OLE), a number of diversified activities are organised for parents and students. For example, family day trips, Christmas gathering, educational talks, and different types of interest courses and workshops. Apart from giving out scholarships and financing students' extra-curricular activities, the PTA also prepares cards and gifts for teachers during Teachers' Week. Furthermore, a volunteer team is set up by the PTA to organise charity events and assist school functions. |
(2) School Ethos | : | The school fully implements a caring yet disciplined, campus culture with a harmonious relationship between teachers and students. With the student-centred mission in mind, all teachers, social workers and the educational psychologist cooperate to provide the most suitable support for students. |

(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development | : | The teacher professional development committee aims to enhance teachers' continuous professional development. To fit in with the curriculum reform, all teachers actively participate in seminars and workshops held by EDB, our sponsoring body and other education organisations. In addition, a number of professional development days are arranged every year for various training activities, and education experts and EDB staff are invited to give talks and workshops to enhance teachers' professional knowledge and skills. The school also emphasises collaborative teaching. The subject panel heads will hold meetings to co-design lesson plans and share teaching materials. The Teachers' Professional Development committee encourages intra-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary peer lesson observation to facilitate teachers' exchange of experiences in teaching, so as to increase teaching effectiveness. |
Life-wide Learning (Including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be Provided through Key Learning Areas, Extra-curricular Activities, Co-curricular Activities, etc.) | : | The School is committed to promoting different activities to cater students with learning diversity. We hope to broaden students' horizons and develop their potential. Students are encouraged to experience new things to build confidence and a hope for success. Activities are categorised into religious, academic, service, sports, art, fun, and growth. Some examples are Metaverse Media Creation, Golfing or Commercial Photography. The School has included these diversity learning activities in the regular timetable, and students will participate in at least two activities per week in the diversity learning period. In addition, we actively implement life-wide learning days, with different themes for every form, involving Chinese, Mathematics, humanities, life planning and volunteer services. This enables students to explore their potential, plan their lives as early as possible, and cultivate their dreams. |
Others | : | 1. The Chinese Percussion Team, which belongs to Pui Ying Chinese Music Orchestra, won the gold award of The Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows with the song “Light of Pui Ying”. The Symphonic Band, established in the 1950s, was a Silver Band before. The Band was the champion of The Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows Symphonic Band organized by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department for three consecutive years. The harmonica team won numerous awards in different inter-school music competitions. Our alumnus Gordon, Chun Lok Lee won the championship of chromatic harmonica solo at the 8th World Harmonica Festival, beating 65 contestants from all over in the world and bought honour to Hong Kong. 2. Our volleyball team is honourably named 'Volleyball Shaolin' in Hong Kong. The Volleyball team has won many volleyball group championships. Our alumnus Sau Mei Yeung even created history in Hong Kong Volleyball Games. She joined the Rangsit University Volleyball Club in Thailand and became the first professional woman's player in Hong Kong. 3. The Photography Club won numerous awards. Photography exhibitions, Southern District Cultural visit and Compassion Photography competition was held. The club also sponsors students to publish individual photograph books. 4. Our Track and Field Team, Swimming Team, Flying Drones Club, Drama Team have won numerous prizes been awarded for their efforts and in inter-school competitions. 5. The school has a collaboration with Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. We became the first secondary school in HK to offer an online Chinese Medicine foundation course with this university. 6. Joing hands with FUTURE NOW, an open digital technology platform in Cyberport, the school promotes professional innovation and activities technology and actively trains students to become digital influencers in education for the next generation. |
