Secondary One Admission, Orientation Activities & Healthy School Life

Secondary One Admission	:	SPCS does not participate in the EDB Central Allocation.Form One selection criteria include: 1. Interview performance: 50%; 2. Academic performance: 30%; 3. Non-academic performance and conduct: 20%.
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life	:	Our Form One orientation activities include: Bridging Course, Online Learning Platforms and Form One Orientation Day. The school supports healthy life. Through building a safe, healthy and environmentally-friendly campus, promoting fitness training and organizing learning and teaching activities in the Personal, Social and Health Education lessons, our school encourages students to build healthy habits, so as to enhances their physical, spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual and personal development.

(1)School's Major Concerns	:	1. Work collaboratively to make the 170th Anniversary celebration events successful and memorable for the Paulinian family. 2. Continue to uphold the excellent academic and non-academic standards of Paulinians that prepare them for their future pursuits. 3. Foster Paulinians with a stronger national identity and their aspirations to build a better tomorrow for Hong Kong, China and the world. 4. Introduce gradually the learning of a third language for Paulinians so that they are prepared to participate in the Belt and Road initiatives when opportunities arise. 5. Infuse the 4 Rs of Rest, Relaxation, Relationships and Resilience into school life to promote the well-being of both students and staff.
(2) School Management Organisation	:	The school is managed by the School Management Committee that is accountable to its sponsoring body, the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartes, which in turn is accountable to the Education Bureau. The School Management Committee leads the school through school-based management in which the School Advisory Board offers advice to the Principal who shares her responsibility with the School Leadership Team. Distributed Leadership is practised through different functional groups headed by members of the School Leadership Team.

Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy	:	Apart from high proficiency in English, Chinese and Putonghua, our students have the chance to learn a third language, such as French, Spanish, German, Korean & Japanese. Specially designed immersion exchange programmes are organized to provide a first-hand experience to their respective countries while boosting their English, French , Spanish, German and Putonghua language skills.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies	:	The school is a learning school in a learning world for a learning century. We offer a balanced and broad-based curriculum that forges in our learners a sturdy knowledge-and-skills-oriented foundation. The teachers apply effective pedagogy in teaching. They adopt a needs-specific approach to address the entire range of student ability. This way, all students can proficiently develop a broad knowledge base and attain holistic progress. The school provides an alternative curriculum and international assessments to maximise students' opportunities for further studies and multiple career pathways. We have enjoyed the EDB-credited status of being the most effective school in uplifting the academic performance of our students for decades.
(3) School-based Curriculum	:	1. Electives: 2X, 3X and 4X. The school offers seventeen electives for students to choose from. These including French and ApL courses for the DSE curriculum. 2. Curriculum highlights: SPCS is a forerunner in the provision of a multiple curriculum - DSE, IGCSE, GCE, IAL, ApL, BTEC for students. Our school-based curriculum offers unique learning experiences and opportunities such as Ming Yi, Learning to Learn, Mediation courses and a Diversified Interest Programme with over 30 options every Friday afternoon. The school organizes various IT-related activities, such as the AR/VR Experiential Course, the AI Gerontechnology Course, ASTRON Space Program, Creative Media Programme for our F.4 and F.5 DSE students and a post-exam Advanced AI Technologies Course for F.4 students. Furthermore, to promote a global outlook and global citizenship, the school organizes many study tours and cultural exchange programmes to the Mainland and different parts of the world. These include the Pearl River Delta Cultural Tour for all F.1 students, the Putonghua Immersion Programme at the Beijing Language and Culture University for all F.2 students, the HKUST (Guangzhou) STEM Programme, the MIT Women’s Technology Program (WTP), the NASA HASSE Space Programme, the Summer School STEM & Entrepreneurship Programme at Christ Church College, Oxford for F.3-F.5 students and the Music Tour to Italy, and Language Immersion tours to Spain, France and Germany.
(4) Major Renewed Emphases in the School Curriculum	:	1. Moral and Civic Education: The school offers Religious Studies, Ethics, Life and Society, Citizenship and Social Development, and Personal, Social and Health Education to nurture students’ positive values and attitudes as well as develop their national identity and love for their country, so that they can contribute positively to their home, profession, society, motherland and the world. 2. Reading to Learn: A Silent Reading Period is included in our regular timetable every day. The school has joined the Hong Kong Public Library’s Reading Scheme, and combines this with regular book recommendation sessions, book review competitions, reading awards and exhibitions in school to instill good reading habits in our students. 3. Project Learning: The school offers subjects like Learning to Learn, Creative Media, and introduces Project-based Learning Assessment to enhance students’ self-learning and project skills. 4. IT for Interactive Learning: As a Centre of Excellence for IT in Education, teachers and students are able to learn more proactively and independently with the support of information technology as well as through online school-based learning platforms.
(5) Life Planning Education	:	We aim to foster students' self-understanding, personal planning, goal setting, reflective habits of mind and articulation to progression pathways. We equip students with the knowledge, skills and attitude to make wise choices in accordance with their interests, abilities and orientations; and guide them to integrate their career/academic aspirations with whole-person development and life-long learning.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity	:	Different strategies, including split classes, gifted groups, Big Sisters Scheme, Peer Mentoring Programme, e-Learning platforms and support study groups help students with diverse learning needs.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education	:	Our school adopts a "whole-school participation" model to support students with special educational needs. Our Team members maintain close contact with class teachers, subject teachers, school social workers and parents to understand students' special needs and to provide appropriate counselling and specific support, such as those for teaching and assessment. The school has in place an evaluation mechanism and conducts regular observation of students' learning performance. Adjustment is made to our arrangements to ensure that our measures are effective. Our school is also committed to promoting an inclusive culture and uses the "Learning Support Grant" to provide teachers and students with a variety of activities, such as mindfulness workshops and art therapy lessons, to help students improve their mental health and to promote personal growth.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students	:	Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: providing after-school support programmes in learning Chinese; arranging intensive Chinese learning and teaching mode(s), e.g. pull-out learning if necessary, split-class/group learning, etc.; and organising activities to create an inclusive learning environment in the school. In order to deepen our Non-Chinese Speaking Paulinians’ appreciation of the Chinese Language and Culture, we use Putonghua as the medium of instruction for their Chinese Language lessons.
(4) Measures to Provide Adaptation for Learning and Assessment	:	Students are assessed on their overall academic performance through different modes of assessment conducted by different subjects. Apart from quizzes and examinations, continuous assessments such as e-learning and thematic project are also used to help students understand their progress.
(5) Fee Remission	:	Our school offers full school fee remission, 3/4, 1/2 or 1/4 school fee remission. Needy students, including those from families receiving the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) and students receiving financial assistance provided by the Student Financial Assistance Agency (SFAA) could apply for fee remission. - Newly admitted students could apply for the school fee remission after 2 week(s) of commencement of the new school year. Application results will be announced within 4 week(s) after submission of applications. Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation	:	Home-School Co-operation is greatly supported by the Parent-Teacher Association which symbolizes the educational partnership between parents and teachers. The school organizes at least two Parents' Days a year to maintain close contact between parents and teachers that enhance home-school co-operation.
(2) School Ethos	:	The school cherishes a simple lifestyle and a harmonious atmosphere so that students are exposed to a happy and motivating learning environment. Students are encouraged to make good use of the opportunities available for life-long and life-wide learning, and to develop their individual potentials by actively participating in a range of school activities.
Future Development
(1) School Development Plan	:	This year, our school theme is ‘Innovating Today Transforming Tomorrow’. The school provides a diverse and innovative curriculum which incorporates elements of STEAM education and entrepreneurship, to offer multiple pathways to students and to prepare them for tertiary education and a fast-changing technological world. The school also promotes national education inside and outside the classroom to foster Paulinians with a stronger national identity and aspirations to build a better tomorrow for Hong Kong, China and the world. In addition, the school hopes to gradually introduce the learning of a third language for Paulinians so that they are prepared to participate in the Belt and Road initiatives when opportunities arise. Furthermore, to promote a healthy lifestyle and promote students' mental health, the school will infuse the 4Rs of Rest, Relaxation, Relationships and Resilience into school life so as to create a pleasant and healthy campus environment for students, thereby improving the overall health culture of the school.
(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development	:	Our teachers participate in many international conferences and projects, such as the Microsoft Innovative Teachers’ World Summit, Habits of Mind (HOM) and mobile learning courses to equip themselves for future challenges.
Life-wide Learning (Including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be Provided through Key Learning Areas, Extra-curricular Activities, Co-curricular Activities, etc.)	:	The school offers 72 clubs and societies that are under the following categories: Academic, Religious, Performing Arts, Sports and Services. Besides, students are also encouraged to participate in various joint-school activities, overseas language immersion programmes, community services, local and international conferences and competitions to broaden their horizons and enhance their global awareness.
Others	:	The school strongly believes that no talented students should be denied admission to SPCS due to financial reasons. Therefore, we implement a Fee Remission Scheme as well as a Financial Support Scheme to assist students with financial needs. Besides, we offer generous scholarship to students who attain outstanding achievements in academic and non-academic areas. Around 30% of students will benefit from the fee remission/scholarship scheme. School Green Policy: The school aims to maintain a safe and environmentally-friendly teaching and learning atmosphere for all members of the school and strives to enhance students' and staff's awareness of the importance of environmental conservation through education. The school has completed the green-roof garden project supported by the Environment and Conservation Fund and was awarded the 5th, 11th & 17th Green School Award and the Gold Award in the Youth Energy-saving Award Competition for its unfailing effort in energy conservation. Besides, our school was awarded as one of the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Exemplary School by UNESCO HK in 2011 and 2013 respectively. The school was the Champion of the Grand ESD Thematic Award in the 8th Educational for Sustainable Development Learning Programme and it was awarded the UNESCO China Sustainable Development Education for 20 Years Outstanding Team in 2018.
