fields supporting the work of teachers wholeheartedly. We established the Incorporated Management Committee in 2008, inviting teaching staff, parents and alumni to be our school managers. To strengthen communication with students, a consultative committee made up of student representatives is set up. The Principal meets with class representatives regularly to solicit students’ views on school policies.

This year, some topics in History, Geography, Technology and Living, Design and Applied Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Visual Arts, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Music lessons are conducted in English in some junior form classes. To enhance students' English language proficiency, our students have an exchange programme with international school students after school. Through the joint-school exchange programme, students can increase their confidence and ability in using English. Our English Day is held every Wednesday, on which English ambassadors host the morning assembly and a wide range of English activities to enhance the atmosphere of English learning on campus. Through the use of English as the medium of instruction and a variety of English learning activities, students' English proficiency and self-confidence are effectively enhanced.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies : Through joining the School-based Support Programme of Education Bureau and collaborating with the Hong Kong Association of the Heads of Secondary Schools, our school has been promoting Self-directed Learning and e-Learning by taking full advantage of Small Class Teaching. Students engage in systematic pre-learning by completing guided study materials and showcasing their pre-learning outcomes. All teachers are equipped with tablet computers and all the classrooms and special rooms are equipped with an 86-inch Interactive Whiteboard to enhance students' learning efficacy. There is a Class Library in each classroom and various kinds of reading activities are in place to cultivate the reading culture in school. A subject-based reading programme is implemented to increase students’ exposure to different reading genres and subject knowledge. Besides, students’ reading habit is developed and general knowledge is constructed through the morning reading programme and different kinds of book sharing activities. A Reading to Learn lesson is in place in S.4 and S.5 to improve students' Chinese and English reading and writing abilities. To foster STEAM education, students are provided with ample opportunities to take part in various inter-school activities and competitions.

(2) Promote a Healthy and Positive Lifestyle
To enhance learning and teaching effectiveness, our school promotes Self-directed Learning and e-Learning to broaden students’ horizons and enhance their learning motivation. Every Monday, S.1-3 students have a cross-curricular learning period after school. Each year, the two Life-wide Learning Days and subject-based co-curricular activities such as workplace visits, S.1 excursion to Central and Sheung Wan, S.2 and S.5 Cross-border Learning Trips as well as Study Tours for Outstanding Students provide enriched opportunities for students to apply their knowledge and skills in community work. With the support from Project WeCan of Wharf Limited, our students are actively involved in a whole array of inter-school and territory-wide competitions, have a strong quest for knowledge and strive for academic excellence. All these endeavours facilitate the creation of a promising future.
(5) Life Planning Education : To foster students’ life planning, a Life Planning Resources Centre has been set up and Career Planning Week has been organised to help students identify personal development goals. In collaboration with different subjects and departments as well as various organisations, a whole array of career and life planning activities like Career Planning Camp and Vocational Education Experience are arranged to enable students to undergo diversified learning experiences and set personal goals for further studies and career development.
Through Project WeCan, students participate in a whole series of life planning activities including Workplace Visits, Mentorship Scheme and Job Tasting Programme. Through the summer internship programme at the subsidiaries of Wheelock Properties Limited and Wharf Limited, our students can grow and learn as well as gain a better understanding of the daily operation of business.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity : To strengthen support for student diversity and enhance learning efficacy, we implement small class and student streaming policy from S.1 to S.6. To facilitate the implementation of Self-directed Learning, students are grouped together according to their learning ability. Learning efficacy is thus maximized through systematic lesson preparation, group discussion, e-Learning, sharing and collaboration.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education : Our Student Support Team provides support for students with Special Educational Needs. Through various kinds of support such as counselling activities and speech therapy, students with Special Educational Needs can receive appropriate training to facilitate the proper growth and development of students.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students : Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: providing after-school support programmes in learning Chinese; developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting learning and teaching materials; and organising activities to create an inclusive learning environment in the school.
(4) Measures to Provide Adaptation for Learning and Assessment : There are formative and summative assessments in all subjects. For summative assessment, there is one uniform test and there are two end-of-term exams per academic year. Students will be given special exam arrangements based on experts’ evaluation reports.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation : It has been 47 years since the establishment of the Parents' Association. A general meeting is held regularly with the presence of the Principal, Vice Principal and members of the Community Liaison Team. In the general meetings, school affairs are discussed and school improvement policies are formulated for the creation of a more favourable learning environment. Every year, the Parents' Association organises a wide variety of activities such as S.1 Parents' Orientation, Parents-Appreciate-Teachers-Day and Chinese New Year Gathering. The Parents' Association also cooperates with our Counselling Team and social workers to organize a series of voluntary work activities for parents. Through these activities, it is our objective to raise parents' concerns on children's school life and development, thus fostering the parent-child relationship and family harmony. Apart from this, the Parents' Association also plays an active role in various school development tasks to strengthen 'Home-School Cooperation', for instance, helping with the promotion work of Shatin Secondary School Tours, sponsoring scholarships and taking part in the tendering of the school's tuck shop and catering service.
(2) School Ethos : To nurture NgYukers with 'Confidence, Care, and Commitment', our school conducts various activities to realise the school motto of 'Nurturing oneself so as to reach out to others'. Our school promotes a 'positive and thanksgiving culture'. A dual class teacher and dual form teacher system in junior forms is in place to provide better pastoral care for students. By fostering students’ moral values and promoting life education as well as various award and punishment schemes, students can learn to tell the rights from wrongs, build proper self-values, and establish a positive and optimistic attitude towards life. We have strengthened the training of our student leaders through workshops and training camps to cultivate the spirit of taking responsibility and teamwork. Through the One-Person-One-Job programme, we develop students' self-discipline and autonomy so as to realize the objective of 'Nurturing oneself' in the school motto. To actualise the spirit of 'Reaching out to others', all S.2 and S.4 students also serve the elderly by staging performances and conducting home visits. Meanwhile, the message of ‘Foster true insight through diverse learning; Empower potential with optimism and action’ is emphasized in assembly periods, lunchtime and Friday afternoon learning activities.

After years of nourishment and students' endeavours, the diverse talents and potentials of our students and teachers are best demonstrated in the prizes and awards gained. Our students were presented with the Youth Arch Top 10 Student Improvement Awards for 11 years since 2011.
