School Characteristics School Characteristics
School Management
(1)School's Major Concerns : 1. To enrich learning & teaching strategies to cater for leaners' diversity for improving students' motivation and engagement.
2. To promote Values Education through nurturing students' interpersonal skills, courteousness, respect for others, law-abidingness and perseverance.
(2) School Management Organisation : Under the adoption of school-based management, the Principal and Vice-Principals cooperate with other departments and committees while discussing and making policies. Opinions from parents and students will also be sought. We adopt a school governance approach which is conducive to student centeredness and their balanced development of moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic well-being.
(3) Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee : The Incorporated Management Committee oversees the operation of the school as well as renders its support to school development. Through regular meetings with the Principal, teacher, parent and alumni representatives and school visits, members can keep track of and be consulted about the school development.
(4) School Green Policy : Values Education Committee is devoted in promoting environmental protection by organizing various programmes and activities. We have formulated policies and plans on environmental protection including installing smart water dispenser to reduce the wastage of single-use plastic bottles, placing 3-colour waste separation bins to reduce landfill waste, and implementing energy conservation policy to reduce energy use and carbon footprint.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy : To further promote students' proficiency in Chinese and English, our school has implemented a new language policy in recent years. It is evident that the performance of our students in public examinations has been very encouraging. To provide a language-rich environment for students to become "bi-literate and tri-lingual", we organize weekly English morning assembly, Chinese and English choral speaking competitions, extensive reading schemes, multi-media learning activities, campus broadcast, English drama, debates, English Activity Lessons and English Creative Writing, etc. In line with the "fine-tuning" of the language policy in secondary schools, English is used as the Medium of Instruction in some subjects of some classes. In all junior forms, Mathematics and Science are taught in English and there are extended English learning activities to consolidate JS students' foundation in English. Students are then ready to switch to English-medium teaching in senior secondary.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies : Our school endeavours to provide an all-round education for students. Enhancing teaching and learning strategies to cater to student learning diversity and improve learning motivation and classroom engagement:
1. Utilization of Different Teaching Methods
2. Respect for Student Learning Styles and Abilities
3. Creation of Challenging Learning Environment
4. Encouragement of Interaction and Collaboration
5. Teacher Professional Development
(3) School-based Curriculum : 1. Electives: 3X. Based on their competence and at their discretion, students can opt three elective subjects and applied learning courses.
2. Curriculum highlights: Our school boasts a diversified curriculum with 13 Elective subjects on offer and English-medium and Chinese-medium classes are available in many subjects. The various subject combinations also allow the flexibility for students to make the most appropriate choices based on their competence and talent and a balance between arts and science subjects can be achieved.
(4) Major Renewed Emphases in the School Curriculum : 1. Strengthening values education
2. Enhancing the learning of Chinese history and Chinese culture
3. Extending "Reading to Learn" to "Language across the Curriculum"
4. Promoting STEAM education and information technology in education
5. Cultivating an entrepreneurial spirit
(5) Life Planning Education : The school-based careers and life planning education has been implemented for many years, and has developed a systematic programme on career guidance which aims at nurturing students to set clear goals in life and understand the needs of the world.
Our experienced career master and career guidance teachers meet students regularly for individual or small group counselling in order to help students set individual goals as well as work on strategies for their learning and further studies.
Diversified career guidance and life planning activities (including talks on different industries and further studies, Form 3 Subject Selection Workshop, mock interviews, study tours, sharing of teachers and alumni, and work placement scheme, etc.) have been held for students to establish a positive outlook on life and help them proactively think of their future pathways.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity : Academic Board and the Committees under Pastoral Care Board, i.e. Discipline, Guidance, Careers and Life Planning, Values Education, Form Teacher Coordinators, etc. regularly meet and collaborate to analyze and understand students’ needs in learning and personal development. Relevant activities and programmes would be designed for needed students. In addition, there are Committees on Gifted and Talented Nurturing, Overseas Cultural Exchange, Voluntary and Social Learning, etc. to develop multiple intelligence of students.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education : The Student Support Team caters for SEN students’ need through keeping in close contact with parents and providing professional advice and services, including social skills training, speech therapy, individual training and execution function skill training. There are also various parent talks with different themes to support and equip parents. The team members include SEN coordinator, SEN support teachers, educational psychologist, social workers, head of pastoral care, head of guidance counselling, head of academic and teacher representatives of core subjects.
Each year, the school recommends courses organized by the EDB to teachers in order to foster teachers’ knowledge and skills in their teaching and counselling to SEN students. Basic, advanced as well as thematic courses are offered. It is hoped that teachers’ awareness towards SEN students’ needs will be raised.
Before the start of the new school year, the Student Support Team organizes sharing sessions for class teachers and subject teachers on form-based levels in an attempt to encourage exchanges and discussions on measures to take care of SEN students. In addition, a counsellor is hired to provide systematic counselling and support for students’ study through the EDB’s Learning Support Grant.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students : Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: providing after-school support programmes in learning Chinese; appointing additional teacher(s)/teaching assistant(s) to support NCS students’ learning of Chinese; and organising activities to create an inclusive learning environment in the school.
(4) Measures to Provide Adaptation for Learning and Assessment : Apart from tests and examinations, other forms of assessment such as ongoing assessment for learning, teachers' observation of students' performance in class and homework, presentations, project reports are conducted. Subject panels tailor the curriculum contents to cater for the needs and abilities of students.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation : A Parent Teacher Resource Centre has been set up for liaison with parents. Communication between school and parents has been stepped up through the publication of newsletter "Bridge" and the launching of PTA web-page. Communication with parents of Form One students is emphasized so as to help their children adapt to the secondary school life.

Students are nurtured to be responsible and righteous citizens through civic education and volunteer services. In pastoral care, the school adopts the "coaching complemented with discipline" policy, allowing students to learn to be reflective, self-disciplined, courteous, and rational, to know the law, and to abide by the rules.
Future Development
(1) School Development Plan : Our school place strong emphasis on the balanced development of all five educational virtues. It is our vision that through the participation in various activities, our students will be well developed morally, intellectually, physically, socially, aesthetically and be able to realize their full potential. We hope that various qualities and talents they have developed in school will become their unique assets and make them stand out from the rest.
In recent years, we emphasise on integrating different subjects and knowledge to increase students’ interests in learning and create a brilliant school life.
1. Cross Curricular Collaboration
An integration of diverging knowledge will enhance students’ learning effectiveness. Cross curricular collaboration arouses students’ interest in academic pursuit, fosters their learning competence and promotes teachers’ professional development.
2. Experiential learning
It is our conviction that students will acquire knowledge better through taking part in outdoor experiential learning activities which foster deep reflection, self-learning and the quest for knowledge. We arrange an overseas study tour for all Form 4 students every year without screening.
3. Life Skills Learning
Learning various life skills allows students to take care of themselves and adapt to different environments.
4. New Media Teaching and Learning
Application of new media and learning through them are essential abilities the new generation must acquire. Our school devotes to developing Campus TV.
5. Arts Education
Our school aims to foster arts education which can be realised through students’ all-round development in the five essential areas namely, ethics, intellect, physique, social skills and aesthetics.
6. Learning through Serving
While learning through serving, students' personal growth and inter-personal skills are enhanced and further developed. They are also engaged in and contribute to the community.
7. Cultivating Positive Value through Active Participation
Our school actively promotes civic education, encouraging students to perform civil responsibility and nurturing a sense of acceptance of various opinions.
(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development : The Staff Development Committee is in charge of coordinating professional development of teachers. The Committee advocates the importance of continued professional development by organizing various seminars, exchange programmes and sharing sessions. Through collaborative teaching, teachers are able to exchange teaching experiences to enhance effectiveness in teaching and learning.
