| School Management | ||
| (1)School's Major Concerns | : | 1. Cultivate students' Growth Mindset when facing learning challenges and enhance students' ability to develop the Deeper Thinking Skills (Creative Problem Solving). 2. To nurture global competence in future-ready students. 3. To enhance students’ well-being through values education. |
| (2) School Management Organisation | : | The members of the School Board are all experienced managers in different fields. The executive organization of our school is mainly divided into two main committees, namely the Learning and Teaching Committee (LTC) and the Student Affairs Committee (SAC). The LTC manages all academic affairs and curriculum design while the SAC mainly focuses on the growth and life education of students. |
| (3) Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee | : | The IMC of Kowloon True Light School |
| (4) School Green Policy | : | To promote a green school by preserving global resources and promoting sustainable development, we educate students to treasure all resources and exploit our environment responsibly. |
| Learning and Teaching Plan | ||
| (1) Whole-school Language Policy | : | Our School adopts English as the main medium of instruction for all junior students. Students can adapt to a rich EMI environment early in the hopes of establishing a smooth transition to senior forms as well as university. Most academic subjects are taught in English in senior secondary levels and students are to sit the examination in HKDSE in English. Besides, designated classes and groups in each junior form have Chinese Language taught in Putonghua. To strengthen the English proficiency of students, our school provides different enhancement courses for junior form students. Value-added classes for Chinese, English and Mathematics are introduced in formal curriculum in senior forms to cater for learner diversity. |
| (2) Learning and Teaching Strategies | : | Through different learning modes, we raise students’ interests in learning, develop multiple intelligence and boost their confidence, with the ultimate goal of whole-person education. Apart from this, our student-centred curriculum can cater for students’ diversified abilities and needs. With great motivation to learn, our students become self-directed learners who can think critically and read extensively. We encourage students to develop various generic skills. These strategies have been proved highly effective by the tremendous improvements all these years in HKDSE. By encouraging participation in inter-school activities and competitions and organizing outbound excursions, we widen our students’ horizons and exposure to the world beyond the classroom. |
| (3) School-based Curriculum | : | 1. Electives: 3X. Our school provides 13 subjects in Science, Arts, Commerce and Mathematics Extended Part Module I for our NSS students. Students are allocated to different electives according to their interest and ability in those subjects. 2. Curriculum highlights: A school-based values education curriculum, the "True Light Bearer’s Course", has been developed for junior forms. To help students adapt to learning in English, the English Department has established an English bridging module. It also incorporates literary elements into the curriculum, allowing students to demonstrate their learning outcomes through an annual musical performance (Page to Stage). Additionally, the De Xin curriculum has been launched in the Chinese Language lessons to enhance students' experience and immersion in Chinese culture. Programmes in Biotechnology, STEM Project Learning, and AI Generation are offered to strengthen learning in mathematics, science, and technology. Through extracurricular activities, such as study tours and Big Sale Day, students have the opportunity to broaden their horizons and develop an international perspective. |
| (4) Major Renewed Emphases in the School Curriculum | : | We adopt a “learning, thinking, showing and reviewing” approach across the curriculum, encouraging students to develop various thinking skills and resort to graphic organizers for more logical flow of ideas. Exploratory and problem-solving elements are incorporated into the curriculum such as debating skills in Chinese Language, View to Views in English Language, and various cross-curricular projects. Gifted education is as well a focal point where we adopt the "Sight, Heart, Mind" Approach. Other learning activities including Inter-House Quiz and Bilingual Youth Forum can also develop students into self-directed learners on top of myriads of learning support focusing on self-directed learning skills and habits in formal and informal curricula. |
| (5) Life Planning Education | : | In order to provide the most updated and tailor-made career guidance for our students, the following measures are adopted. Regular lessons are scheduled to provide students with insights into their career development to help students understand themselves. We have established strong partnership with alumnae and NGOs so that our students have good understanding about the challenging needs of different sectors nowadays. Life planning counselling is provided. Careers and class teachers give advice to students individually and in groups, in which their career development problems and needs are identified for finding, developing and reviewing their personal plans and career goals. We have strategic planning for us to collect, update and organize all kinds of career information effectively to support students in making important decisions, e.g. prioritizing choices in JUPAS. Hence, a very high proportion of our graduates are given an offer in degree programs at local universities and tertiary institutions. |
| Student Support | ||
| (1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity | : | As for intellectual development, which appears in regular lessons and pull-out programs. The focus lies on enquiry-based, problem-based and product-based learning, where various thinking skills come into play: critical thinking, creative thinking, analytical thinking and decision making skills. Research skills for both quantitative (questionnaire) and qualitative (interview) studies are involved, aside from the ability of literature review and information processing. There are two categories of pull-out training: course-based and team-based, coached by either school teachers or instructors from renowned institutes. Of all items that involve intellectual training, reflection is an element for students to develop moral cultivation, for serving others with one's strengths is what we promote. Homogeneous groupings in various subject enable subject panels (Chinese, English, and Mathematics) to adjust curriculum, homework policy, pedagogy, assessment, feedback and extended learning in order to maximize the effectiveness of learning and teaching. For instance, there is an accelerated curriculum in high-achiever group in S.3 Mathematics, where problem-solving modules and the content of M1 in senior secondary are introduced. As for students who need more support academically, revision classes in Chinese, English and Mathematics are held after school for the lower achievers. |
| (2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education | : | The whole-school approach was employed to cater to the diverse special needs of students, using the Learning Support Grant to enhance their learning needs. The Student Support Team is co-ordinated by the SENCO, who coordinates the various subject panels, and assisted by the School Social Worker, Educational Psychologist, and all teachers; various group activities were organized for SEN students. Individual learning plans were mapped out for some. Having been identified as having special education needs, with hearing impairment or other SEN problems, those students have special support from the school. Taught by qualified teachers with SEN training and given extra time in their examinations, they can gain confidence in a normal learning environment at school. |
| (3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students | : | Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting learning and teaching materials; and organising activities to create an inclusive learning environment in the school. Our school provides additional support for non-Chinese speaking students to facilitate their learning of Chinese including language skills training, peer-to-peer learning, story reading, Chinese language adaptation courses, after-school Chinese study groups and Chinese Culture appreciation. The classes are conducted by teachers and teaching materials are well-prepared. |
| (4) Measures to Provide Adaptation for Learning and Assessment | : | There is continual assessment during lessons, daily assessment, projects, tests and examinations. The format and the level of difficulty of the questions in senior forms have to follow that of the public examination. The S.6 Pre-Mock Examination to revise the 3-year curriculum in the Summer Holiday before the new term starts. In addition, extended classes in Chinese, English, Mathematics and electives are provided according to students of different ability groups throughout the whole year. After the 1st term examination, every subject panel will evaluate the performance of the students, and teachers will accordingly adjust their teaching strategies. The school promotion policy and streaming policy are implemented based on students' performance across various subjects. The use of a self evaluation template after the 1st examination encourages students to think about the focal points of each assessment and what they are required to do to improve their performance. |
