We encourage our students to take the initiatives to protect the environment and provide them with a wide range of activities to carry out our mission of creating a green campus.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy : We put great emphasis on our biliterate and trilingual education. We attach equal importance to mother-tongue learning and students' competence in English and Putonghua. In order to improve students' English competence, selected modules in subjects such as Mathematics, Science, History, and Geography are taught in English in designated junior-form classes. English learning materials are incorporated in different subjects to create a rich English learning environment for students. We foster a biliterate and trilingual learning environment through regular activities such as English and Putonghua morning assemblies, English Reading Week, and participation in the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival and the Hong Kong School Drama Festival.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies : In accordance with the school ethos - "I seek, I act", we aim to nurture our students' attitude for active learning and equip them with the ability to construct knowledge for themselves as well as to act out the ethos. To promote self-directed learning, we put emphasis on pre-lesson preparation and develop students’ note-taking skills. To cater for students’ diverse learning needs, when joining our school, students are streamed according to their abilities in all forms. We offer diversified learning support programmes by introducing small class teaching, providing interactive activities and adopting pedagogical differentiation. Professional development is a key area which our school focuses on. To elevate teaching efficacy and encourage sharing of teaching ideas, peer lesson observations and collaborative lesson preparation are conducted regularly.
(3) School-based Curriculum : 1. Electives: 2X and 3X. There are 12 electives and Mathematics - Extended Part for senior secondary students to choose from.
2. Curriculum highlights: Apart from elective subjects, our school offers Life Education Curriculum (Religious Studies, Life and Career Education) and School-based OLE Curriculum (Music and Moving Image, A Vision of New Media, Python Programming, Personal Financial Management) in senior forms to enrich students' learning experiences and promote all-round development. Subject-based adjustment and fine-tuning of curriculum would be done according to students' abilities and interests as well as introducing various cross- curricular learning activities. For example, STEAM elements and activities are incorporated in junior forms subjects like Mathematics, Science, and Computer Literacy to cultivate students' inquiry thinking and develop their problem-solving skills. For languages, we offer enhancement courses, writing courses for elite class and English drama course to polish students' language.
(4) Major Renewed Emphases in the School Curriculum : Reading Scheme: We strive to cultivate a reading culture among students with a host of regular activities, award schemes, and scholarships. We also encourage our students to participate in various kinds of science and technology competitions. Over the years, they have represented Hong Kong to participate in international, national, and local competitions, achieving remarkable accomplishments.
Values, Moral, Positive, and Civic Education: Not only does our school put emphasis on all-round education and a whole-person development, but also offers Life Education in order to instil proper moral values and a positive attitude in senior form students. Besides, elements of positive, moral and civic education are embedded in the curricula of different subjects. (1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity : We tailor our school-based curricula to cater for students with different abilities and needs. We help students of different abilities learn continuously and progress steadily through a range of measures, including our streaming system, group learning, individual tutoring, various after-school enhancement and remedial courses, development programmes for the gifted and elite students, as well as our learning-outside-classroom strategies. Through all this assistance, students of different levels can attain academic improvement continuously. (1) Home-School Co-operation : We value communication with parents. Meetings with and talks for parents are held regularly to develop mutual understanding on students’ academic progress and whole-person development. Through these activities, we have a better understanding of parents' opinions, thereby enhancing teaching and learning effectiveness. Our Parent-Teacher Association is staffed by a committee of earnest and caring parent volunteers. It also serves to bridge communication between the school and parents to foster close and fruitful partnerships. Various activities are held regularly, such as family picnics, family communication seminars, yoga workshops, bakery classes, and so on.
