School Characteristics School Characteristics
School Management
(1)School's Major Concerns : - To promote among students the positive values conducive to their whole person development
- To broaden students' horizons in terms of their diverse potentials and aspirations
- To further develop students’ creativity and innovativeness
(2) School Management Organisation : We set up the Incorporated Management Committee on 31 August 2013.
(3) Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee : Members include seven managers from the school sponsoring body, the Principal, teacher, parent, alumni and independent managers.
(4) School Green Policy : Sing Yin is a demonstration school for many environmental facilities such as various types of photovoltic solar cells, wind turbine generators and solar suntubes. We spend much effort on environmental education and measures. In particular, we appoint an environmental monitor in each class to monitor the energy saving measures and cleanliness of their classes.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy : From F.1 to F.6, students learn most subjects through English.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies : Curriculum development is based on the idea of whole person development and allowing students to choose subjects that suit their attitude and aptitude. All F.1 to F.6 students have to study Religious and Moral Education for two periods per cycle. F.4 students have to take three elective subjects. Indeed, our F.4 students have many subject combinations to choose from. Besides the formal curriculum, we also organise sports days, swimming galas, sports competitions of all sorts, music contest, instrumental music classes, sports training courses and social service activities, so students can develop in a suitable area of education. We also encourage students to take part in some religious activities to enhance their knowledge about Catholicism. For many years, we have been providing study rooms and running study skill courses to help students "learn how to learn".
(3) School-based Curriculum : 1. Electives: 3X. Details will be provided in F.3.
2. Curriculum highlights: Study skills courses are arranged to suit the needs of students in different forms.
(4) Major Renewed Emphases in the School Curriculum : Measures to raise language abilities include Extensive Reading Scheme for English and Chinese; newspaper and magazine subscription service; book exhibitions; Morning Reading Programme; Reading Group.
(5) Life Planning Education : 1. Junior Form: a programme will be organised to raise the self-understanding and sense of life planning of the students through a series of activities.

2. Senior Form: activities ranging from career interest assessment, job shadowing, visits to workplace, careers talks and group discussions moderated by alumni will be held to let students have an in-depth understanding of the requirements and prospect of different industries. These activities would help plan the future career direction of the students. Form 4 students will join a leadership training programme to enhance their ability in planning activities and carrying out their work plans.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity : The Guidance Department, the Student Support Team, Social Worker, Educational Psychologist and class teachers work together and take care of students who might need help.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education : The school is committed to building an inclusive and caring campus. With a Whole School Approach, it supports students with special educational needs by providing them with appropriate and diversified support services to enhance their learning effectiveness. The Student Support Team includes Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Head of Guidance Department, teachers who have received special education training and a teaching assistant. Two school social workers and an educational psychologist provide professional assistance to the school and the students. The psychologist provides teachers with training to support students with special educational needs.

The school has a flexible use of the Learning Support Grant to recruit a teaching assistant and purchase professional services (such as speech therapy and occupational therapy). The school also provides special examination arrangement for students in need. The school also provides assessment, referral and individual education plan for students with serious special learning needs, and helps students learn through interdisciplinary cooperation.

The school attaches great importance to home-school cooperation in supporting students. The speech therapist will also provide parents with professional advice to help improve students’ speech abilities at home.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students : Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: providing after-school support programmes in learning Chinese; and organising activities to create an inclusive learning environment in the school.
(4) Measures to Provide Adaptation for Learning and Assessment : There are three examinations every school year. Informal tests for different subjects are also arranged from time to time.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation : We have established the Parent-Teacher Association since 1998. The cooperation between us is continuous.
(2) School Ethos : We adopt an authoritative, whole-school approach to guide our students. The Guidance Department runs many programmes such as the "Sing Yin Pioneers" to help junior form students. For discipline, we have four prefect teams to develop students' leadership and self-discipline. Our students are expected to follow the school rules strictly, so our students are well behaved.
Future Development
(1) School Development Plan : Major Concerns of the 2024-2027 School Development Cycle
1. To foster positive values and attitudes among students
2. To instil in students a mindset of excellence
3. To build a creative and an innovative learning community for Students
(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development : We encourage teachers to further their studies; those who do may receive a subsidy.
Life-wide Learning (Including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be Provided through Key Learning Areas, Extra-curricular Activities, Co-curricular Activities, etc.) : We offer about 60 clubs and organisations. Every student must join at least one club. The clubs are run by students and teachers serve only as advisers.
