| School Management | ||
| (1)School's Major Concerns | : | 1. Lead a healthy life; 2. Embrace learning; 3. Treasure our home and country. |
| (2) School Management Organisation | : | We have specialized departments coordinating Student Affairs and Academic Development. The Academic Committee oversees the curriculum development and implementation , assessment, student support, career guidance, provision of a rich language environment, etc. The Student Affairs Committee is responsible for the Discipline and Student Guidance, Moral and Civic Education, ECA and the Health Promotion. IT, Academic Administration & External Liaison Affairs Committee promotes collaboration among different departments, including Academic Administration Group, IT and E- learning Group, Mainland Study Tours Coordination and Sister School, PASAG, School Promotion and Decoration Group, etc. |
| (3) Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee | : | The Incorporated Management Committee (IMC) was set up on 1st Feb, 2006 and it helps implement school-based management in our school. The committee involves the school sponsoring body, the principal, teachers, parents, alumni and independent community members. School-based management seeks to enhance transparency and accountability in the use of public funds and school operations by providing a participatory decision-making mechanism where all key stakeholders are involved. |
| (4) School Green Policy | : | Student environmental protection ambassadors and health ambassadors are responsible for promoting and organizing school-based environmental and health-related activities. The students are encouraged to save resource, recycle paper, metal and plastic and textbooks. To promote greening culture, we have installed solar panels, built a campus rooftop garden and an organic farm. In recognition of our efforts in green practices and promotion, our school has been awarded the Three-star Award under the Happy Green Schools Label Program since 2017. Participating in the BEAM PLUS Project certified by HKGBC and the Solar Harvest Program is another step we have taken to further establish a more sustainable campus. |
| Learning and Teaching Plan | ||
| (1) Whole-school Language Policy | : | Students are put into different classes according to their English proficiency. There are also enhancement courses and LAC-related activities which create a rich English language learning environment at school. Putonghua is used to teach Chinese language in some classes in S.1 and S.2. Some subjects offer both Chinese medium and English medium classes. Bilingual teaching is implemented from S.4 to S.6 and it is proved that with the use of Chinese as MOI in our school, our students are better able to understand what is taught and can analyze problems, express views, develop an enquiring mind and cultivate critical thinking. This year we deploy additional resources to hire TWO native English-speaking teachers to work with the English teachers to teach English speaking lessons in S1 and S2, in order to strengthen students' confidence and ability in using English. |
| (2) Learning and Teaching Strategies | : | To raise the effectiveness of teaching and learning, we introduce innovative L&T programs. And a range of strategies are employed, such as inter and intra-departmental collaboration and e-learning. In addition, our Academic Prefects work with teachers to support and guide junior students in remedial and enhancement classes for Chinese, English and Mathematics, which strengthen students’ abilities and confidence. Furthermore, language arts is taught by our Native English Speaking Teacher to our junior form learners, boosting their creative opportunities. As a result, our curricula, methodology, classroom activities and assessment are tailor-made to best fit our learners’ levels and needs. Additionally, life-wide learning activities like visits, tours and interdisciplinary project learning further extend experiences to take learners beyond the classroom and into other contexts. Another strategic measure is our reading schemes, a variety of which are offered to forge effective reading habits and provide enrichment from extended reading. To enhance student learning effectiveness, assessment is integrated into the curriculum as well as the teaching and learning process. Hence, various modes of assessment are adopted including tests, examinations and continuous assessments-both summative and formative. We place great emphasis on the elements regarding Chinese culture and the use of Putonghua. Through organizing reading activities, it is hoped that students’ national identity would be strengthened. The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy is recently implemented across S.1 to S.5 in hopes of fostering E-learning among our students, synergizing teaching and student learning. |
| (3) School-based Curriculum | : | 1. Electives: 3X. 14 electives are available for students to choose from based on their yearly academic performance, their personal interest, and future life planning. Students can also choose Applied Learning Programmusic and other languages courses provided by outside organisations. 2. Curriculum highlights: Through the collaboration of different Key Learning Areas, we aim to extend students' generic skills and self-directed learning capacities. For example, school-based signature STEAM project, Jellyfish project, where students can enhance their 21st century skills such as collaboration proficiency, problem solving abilities and creativity. In addition, our Chinese and English debate teams enable students to develop their critical thinking and communication prowess. Also, our adoption of e-learning allows students to enhance their I.T. competencies and we have a whole-school based voluntary scheme which can nurture not only self-management abilities but also empower life-long learning. |
| (4) Major Renewed Emphases in the School Curriculum | : | The school values the development of the four key tasks and all departments actively promote and implement subject-based and cross-curriculum project learning as well as incorporating e-learning elements. These upgrade our students' motivation to learn and, at the same time, cultivate their skills. Through interesting and diverse language activities, we strive to create a language-rich environment and provide students with maximum language exposure. Meanwhile, through promoting our cross-discipline reading scheme, we hope to enhance students' interest in reading and capacity to self-learn. We also infuse the education of moral and civic education with our formal and informal curricula, including talks on morality and projects involving volunteering, with the hope of cultivating positive values and attitudes to life. |
| (5) Life Planning Education | : | The Careers Guidance Team devises comprehensive life-planning programmes and exploration activities, empowering our students with the skills and knowledge in preparation for their future. Our programmes are spread across junior and senior forms. We aim for students to understand themselves, set their own goals, learn how to reflect on their own career and life plans and explore the pathways ahead. In our school, all subject and groups infuse career and life-planning elements in their learning activities, allowing students to relate their learning to future educational and career directions. Second, we provide authentic workplace experiences for our students by forging a strong partnership with alumni, the community and business sector. Our career teachers also cater for individual needs by providing an advisory service to counsel as the students make important decisions concerning further education and career development. |
| Student Support | ||
| (1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity | : | In order to fulfil the goal of Inclusive Education, our school has established the Student Support Group comprising SEN Coordinator, Support Teachers, social worker, educational psychologist and speech therapist. Utilizing the learning support grant, we provide diverse learning support, social groups, adventure-based training activities, speech therapy, career planning, and individual educational plans. We emphasize home-school collaboration. Members of the Student Support Team or relevant teachers regularly communicate with parents to provide joint support for the students. |
| (2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education | : | In order to fulfil the goal of Inclusive Education, we collaborate with other teachers/functional teams in the school through the WSA to devise support programmes, curriculum and teaching adaptations, and special examination and assessment arrangements for students with SEN. Through collaborative lesson planning and co-teaching arrangements, we guide our colleagues to adopt effective support strategies that enhance student learning outcomes. Strengthen external liaison with parties such as professionals, community resources providers and parents to better coordinate various parties and resources for supporting students with SEN in the school. |
| (4) Measures to Provide Adaptation for Learning and Assessment | : | We adopt continuous and diversified assessments, focusing on students' learning performance and needs. For students with SEN, we provide appropriate assessment accommodations, such as extended time and separate exam rooms, to minimize their barriers. We also assist these students in applying for corresponding special examination arrangements with the HKEAA for public examinations. |
| Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos | ||
| (1) Home-School Co-operation | : | The partnership between home and school is highly valued. In order to develop close and effective home-school communication and cooperation, the Parent-Teacher Association has been established for 27 years. We organize a range of activities which promote parenting education and strengthen the cooperation between parents and the school. |
| (2) School Ethos | : | Our school strives to nurture a caring school culture. We dedicate to promoting students’ physical and mental health and provide the best learning opportunities for all of its students in an environment which is supportive, positive and challenging. We are honored to receive the Caring School Award. With an aim to help students become optimistic, self-disciplined, self-respecting, showing respectful to others as well as willing to take up responsibilities. To cater for students' academic, personal and career development, the school devises effective strategies such as implementation of ‘Dual Class Teacher System’, establishing a well-organized structure of discipline and guidance and promoting positive value education through assembly sharing. |
