Our DNA is 'We Love We Can'. Ko Lui Secondary School policy has always aimed at creating an enjoyable and positive learning environment for students. We teach with the students’ abilities and interests in mind. We believe that education should be for everyone, no matter their background or aptitude. We aim to provide a well-rounded intellectual program, while encompassing ethics, physical education, social skills and aesthetics. The school motto is: ‘Integrity and Diligence’ and we strive to help our students develop positive values and to promote the importance of the six core values in life: perseverance, integrity, courtesy, self-discipline, responsibility and gratitude.

Secondary One Admission : Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2026 ).The school interviews all applicants and their parents in Chinese and English. Admission criteria: conduct (30%), internal examination results (30%), interview (20%) and non-academic performance (20%).
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life : - Students participate in a seven-day "Form 1 Orientation Week" in July. Teachers used relaxed and engaging methods to help students adapt to the new secondary school environment and teaching methods. The programme included subjects like Chinese, English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, activities related to multiple intelligences, and guidance for new students.
- "Form 1 Orientation Parent Day" will be held at the end of August, allowing parents and teachers to further communicate and understand the school's educational philosophy and daily operations.
- In September, students take part in the "Form 1 Self-Management Training Program", which includes guiding students on organizing their school bags, arranging student handbook, managing lockers, searching for books in the library, as well as teaching values such as healthy living and self-discipline.

School Management
(1) School's Major Concerns : - To promote student learning through diverse assessments; To enhance teaching effectiveness through quality feedback.
- To cultivate students' positive thinking; To promote the development of students' physical and mental health.
(2) School Management Organisation : There are three core organisations in KLSS: the School Executive Committee, the Teaching and Learning Committee Team and the Student Pastoral Care Team which work closely on planning and implementing school policies.
(3) Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee : An Incorporated Management Committee has been set up.
(4) School Green Policy : We have installed solar panels on the rooftops to promote green energy. In recent years, the school has actively promoted the environmental recycling program. Members of the Pastoral Care Team have implemented recycling activities throughout the campus to educate students their responsibilities. To advocate caring environment, inter-class planting award programmes are held, and hydroponic projects are promoted in OLE session.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy : - In S.1-S.3, English Language is taught in groups according to students' abilities.
- In S.1-S.3, there is a group of students using Putonghua as MOI in Chinese Language lessons.
- In S.1 and S.2, a particular class, English is used to go through the relevant subject concepts and contents in Citizenship, Economics and Society / Life and Society and Science that have already been taught through mother tongue.
- In S.3, a particular class, some topics in Biology, Geography, and History will be reviewed in English.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies : - Enhance students' learning effectiveness through feedback and reflection. -Develop students' potential through diverse curricula, including school-based talent classes, interdisciplinary activities, various elective subjects, applied learning programmes, and wide-life learning days. - Implement the principle of teaching according to students' abilities to cater for learning differences, including tiered worksheets, curriculum adjustments, homework support classes, small group teaching in Chinese, English, and Math, free tutorials in library, and supplementary classes in various subjects. - Improve classroom engagement through cooperative learning, e-learning, questioning techniques, and construction strategies to promote interactive learning among students. - Organize interdisciplinary reading programs using engaging thematic reading materials, along with talent or presentation competitions involving the entire school, to encourage learning through reading. - Enhance students' understanding of Chinese culture and national identity through Mainland exchange activities.
(3) School-based Curriculum : 1. Electives: 3X. (3X, Since 2021-2022, the third elective subject is M2 or Applied Learning)
2. Curriculum highlights: - Talent Classes: Catering to students' diverse needs and interests. Content includes Chinese orchestra, drama, diabolo, dance, jump rope, and ball sports, etc. - Interdisciplinary Classes: Cultivating additional learning experiences. Content includes debates, film appreciation, chocolate making, RoboMaster, BattleAce, darts, yoga, and skateboarding, etc. - Cross-disciplinary Reading Programme: Encouraging students to learn through engaging theme-based reading materials and school-wide participation in talent or presentation competitions. - Enhancement Programme: Assisting high school students in improving learning effectiveness across various subjects. - BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and E-Learning Programme: Creating future classrooms for students, fostering their digital literacy, and guiding them to face the challenges of the AI era.
(4) Major Renewed Emphases in the School Curriculum : STEAM for All: Through cross-disciplinary collaboration, students are guided to apply interdisciplinary knowledge and solve problems creatively. “Elite Programme": Elite students are selected in junior and senior secondary to receive extra after-school support and broaden their learning experiences. Developing students’ reading habits: By optimizing the school-based reading booklet and compiling excellent student works selected from the “I Am a Young Writer Program” into reading materials, the school encourages creativity and promotes reading. Efforts continue to strengthen classroom management and a caring culture, as well as the ongoing implementation of the English curriculum optimization. The school also collaborates with the Chinese University of Hong Kong on the Mathematics Curriculum Improvement Program (QSIP).
(5) Life Planning Education : - KLSS has implemented personal counselling practices to cater for students’ needs in accordance with the school’s development plan and the students' social needs.
- To inculcate healthy and correct concepts for further studies and career choices; To train students to plan their future as early as possible, and strengthen students' career plan.
- KLSS cooperates with NGOs to provide S.6 students with career-oriented OLE activities in order to equip them with the most up-to-date information for their career and life planning.
- KLSS cooperates with CBRE, Wheelock Properties (Hong Kong) Limited, LWK & Partners (HK) Ltd, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, Cloud Computing in Watsons, etc, to provide job tasting programmes for students. Our teachers strive to enable students to understand themselves in terms of character, values and needs, in order to develop their personal interests and individual potential through their future choice of careers.
- Actively encourage teachers to participate in training and exchanges related to career planning in order to provide students with updated and more effective career and life planning.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity : Caring for Growth Together: The essence of KLSS is "We Love, We Can." The school adopts a mentorship system (with two mentors), where each class mentor nurtures students for three consecutive years, treating them as their own children. Character Building Shapes Lives: Teachers in our school believe in "life affects life" and actively promote positive education. Through school assemblies, grade meetings, life education classes, the "Star of the Month" program, and scholarship program, students are guided to develop positive values and an optimistic life attitude. Community Care: Through volunteer activities, students engage with the community, embodying the High Lightning qualities of "compassion," "gratitude," "respect," and "responsibility." Embracing Challenges with Faith and Perseverance: The principal's belief is "Be confident and be perseverant." Through classroom learning, physical and artistic training, extracurricular activities, public speaking opportunities, and performances, students are encouraged to bravely confront different challenges, face failures with a positive mindset, and persist without giving up. Emotions Tied to Home and Country: The school organizes nearly ten literary, innovative, or Chinese music exchanges each year, fostering interactions between students and mainland Chinese students to deepen friendships, strengthen national awareness, sense of responsibility, and belonging.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education : KLSS is dedicated to inclusive education, fostering a caring culture, and providing diverse support for students with special educational needs (SEN). The Student Support Team, which includes the principal, vice-principal, educational psychologist, counseling director, SEN coordinator, and subject heads, meets regularly to plan strategies. The team also includes mentors with counseling expertise and an on-site speech therapist, as well as support staff who assist core classes in junior forms, building a three-tier support system.
The school offers various accommodations during assessments, such as extra time, vocabulary clarification, screen readers, and voice input. There are many small-group activities, including executive function training, social groups for autism, cup stacking, academic support, adventure activities, sex education, and emotional management, which aim to enhance students’ social, emotional, and cognitive abilities.
Special focus is given to SEN students’ career planning. There are career guidance groups, industry exploration, and work experience opportunities, allowing students to show their skills on platforms like the “KL Café” and gain confidence. The school has a "Harmony Zone" for social interaction, and the "Harmony Ambassador Program" allows SEN students to organize events, building confidence, life skills, and a sense of belonging.
Each year, an inclusive education awards ceremony and parents’ night is held so parents, teachers, and students can celebrate student growth together. The school also offers a support group for SEN parents. “Inclusion Culture Week” and inclusive education lessons encourage empathy among students and staff, contributing to a caring school environment.
(3) Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students : Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: providing after-school support programmes in learning Chinese; organising activities to create an inclusive learning environment in the school; and hiring additional manpower and/or translation/interpretation services to facilitate the communication with parents of NCS students.
(4) Measures to Provide Adaptation for Learning and Assessment : There are two mid-term tests and examinations as well as continuous assessments. This diversified mode of assessment improves teaching effectiveness and reflects students' performance holistically, addresses learning diversity and promote learning and teaching effectiveness.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation : The PTA aims to help both students and parents build a sense of belonging in the school. It also works very hard to enhance the communication between students, parents and the school, through a variety of activities, including parents' talks, cooking classes, voluntary service and Care Programs for students sitting for public examinations. This fosters a more caring interaction between the school and the students. Our school website also provides parents with timely information to help parents and students build a better parent-child relationship.
(2) School Ethos : - KLSS campus is filled with care, opportunities, and hope. - The school environment is simple and values moral education: students are polite, grateful, and respectful towards others. They care for each other, fostering a harmonious and caring campus atmosphere. - Through numerous stage performances, presentations, participation in activities, and competitions, every student experiences a sense of achievement and "I can do it" attitude. With diverse learning programmes and professional teaching strategies, students' academic performance and extracurricular activities continue to improve, making the entire campus brim with hope. - KLSS campus exudes a healthy atmosphere: the school actively promotes a healthy lifestyle through the "School-wide Health Program," constantly reminding students to cultivate good eating habits, maintain a regular routine, and engage in adequate exercise.

Life-wide Learning (Including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be Provided through Key Learning Areas, Extra-curricular Activities, Co-curricular Activities, etc.) : - Wide-life Learning Day: Through visits, field trips, or workshops, students explore various learning areas and personally experience learning beyond the classroom.
- "Ko Lui's got Talents": Through dance, drama, singing, musical performances, and more, students showcase their creativity and full potential.
- Class-based "Ignite Your Spark" Scholarship Program: Encouraging students to set goals and persevere.
- Cultural Week: Allowing students to appreciate Chinese culture and broaden their global perspective.
- Health Culture Week: Promoting health information and organizing activities related to healthy lifestyles and diet, such as "Nutritious Snack Promotion Day" and "Happy 'Fruit' Day", cultivating good eating habits among students.
- Mainland Exchange Tours: The school organizes over 10 mainland exchange programmes annually, enabling students to not only appreciate Chinese culture but also gain first hand knowledge of the country's development.
- UK Exchange Programme: Conducted once every two years, this programme immerses students in an English-speaking environment to enhance their English proficiency.
Others : Special Awards: A student from our school was honored as one of only 50 recipients worldwide of the “Distinguished Winner” title in the 2025 Apple Swift Student Challenge. In addition, our students participated in the First “Hong Kong–Shanghai Secondary School Mathematical Modeling Competition” in 2025, co-organized by the Education Bureau, Shanghai Teacher Education College, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and won the First Prize.

Remarks : Applied Learning (ApL) courses are offered in the school. They aim at offering diverse learning programs for students with an interest in areas other than those provided by the existing school curriculum. There are six areas of studies in ApL, namely, (1) Creative studies, (2) Media and Communication; (3) Business, Management and Law; (4) Services; (5) Applied Science and (6) Engineering and Production. The ApL courses are usually held on Saturdays at the venues of the course providers.
