Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy : Our school focuses on the language development of students and is proactively working to elevate students' abilities in Chinese, English and Putonghua. To enhance English proficiency, our school is blessed with the support from Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong in arranging interns from Germany or other countries to visit our school on a weekly basis and organize English learning activities for students. Regarding the curriculum, we provide an S.1 English Bridging Course and arrange an annual English Week and an English Funfair. Mathematics and Integrated Science for junior forms are taught in English. English Across Curriculum is also offered.
'Chinese Culture Day' and 'Reading Sharing Sessions' are held annually to arouse students' interest in learning Chinese culture and language. One class in S.1 and S.2 adopts Putonghua as the medium of instruction for teaching Chinese Language.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies : We focus on promoting self-directed learning in junior forms, encouraging students to adopt an active learning style. Students' critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving skills and skills in information technology are expected to be nurtured through co-curricular activities and multi-learning curriculum. Students' performance in public exams and their integrated skills are our prior concerns in the senior secondary curriculum. Apart from the traditional arts and science subjects, we also provide different subjects such as Business, Accounting and Financial Studies, Physical Education, Visual Arts and Ethics and Religious Studies to encourage learning and development in different fields. BYOD (bring your own device) is implemented in all forms. Students bring their own tablet devices and conduct e-learning activities during the lesson. Students can also utilize the school's AI learning platform to generate relevant learning materials and receive individualized guidance on the platform, all based on their own learning goals and progress.
(3) School-based Curriculum : 1. Electives: 3X. Students are free to choose different subjects according to their interests and abilities.
2. Curriculum highlights: We offer a diversified and balanced curriculum in junior forms. There are cross-curricular English courses for S.1 to S.3 students. Co-curricular activities such as English drama classes are also provided for students to cater for different interests and to promote whole-person development. English reading lessons are arranged for junior forms students so as to help them acquire reading skills and strategies. Additionally, we emphasize virtue development. Through morning assemblies, weekly assemblies, cross-curricular activities and Religious Studies lessons, positive values about life are instilled. The Moral, Civic and National Education Section offers tailor-made materials for teaching positive values in the class-teacher lessons.

In the process of discovering and pursuing their dreams, they are encouraged to continually strive towards achieving their personal goals.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity : There are after-school enhancement and remedial classes in junior and senior forms to cater for learner diversity. A learning support committee is set up, specializing in caring for and looking after the students in need. In junior forms, there are different learning and support classes to help students with homework and build up active learning and self-directed learning habits. Our school's emphasis is on Christian education. Through different contacts and personal conferences, teachers encourage students to have a reflection on life and to understand religion. Students are also nurtured, from the Christian perspective, to take on challenges, love their life and develop their potential to the fullest, leading a life of 'Love God and Love Man'. We have an additional social worker for promoting leadership training, workshops and voluntary work training to help students develop their potential. We also have partnership with various churches/organizations to integrate religious group activities into Religious Studies lessons, creating a routine that allows students to be exposed to gospel messages and providing support for their personal growth.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education : The school is committed to developing an inclusive school culture and making good use of the resources allocated by the Education Bureau to support students with special education needs in a 'whole school approach'. We provide students with appropriate and diversified supports to enhance their learning effectiveness and help them integrate into school life. We have established a 'Student Support Team' to take care of individual differences in the 'whole school approach'. In addition, we arrange pull-out/after-school support classes (Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics) and purchase group/individual speech therapy services for students with speech and language impairment.
(4) Measures to Provide Adaptation for Learning and Assessment : We adopt a diversified assessment mode (e.g. lesson observation, student participation, assignment performance, OLE portfolio, outside classroom field trips and project-based learning, etc.) and different assessment strategies, including students' self-evaluation, peer and teachers' evaluation of students' learning progress. Apart from regular tests and exams, every subject has continual formative assessment for students. Assessment of junior forms students is mainly conducted in Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, Chinese History and Integrated Science, etc.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation : Cooperation between parents and the school is highly valued. We maintain close contact with parents through convenient and diverse channels. Home visits are conducted annually to get parents acquainted with their children's school performances, which is significant for nurturing the students. This arrangement is widely appreciated by both parents and students. The efforts made by teachers are also recognised and appreciated by parents.
(2) School Ethos : Students are well-behaved with good self-discipline. They respect their teachers and get along well with their peers. They actively participate in extra-curricular activities and volunteer work, taking their responsibilities seriously. In these activities, they show commitment and enthusiasm in serving others. Student leaders are also responsible and eager to serve their fellow schoolmates.
Future Development
(1) School Development Plan : 2024/27 Major Concerns:
1. Fostering self-access learning.
2. Building positive values.
(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development : Our school values the professional development of teachers. The measures for professional development include the following:
1. Offering subsidies for teachers to enhance their English proficiency and keep abreast of developments of their subjects;
2. Conducting collaborative lesson planning in Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, Citizenship and Social Development, History, Geography and Integrated Science, etc. to enhance the effectiveness of teaching;
3. Organizing orientation and workshops for new colleagues to help them adapt to the new working environment;
4. Establishing award schemes to recognise staff for good performance;
5. Encouraging teachers to share school-based experience in educational forums held in Hong Kong, Mainland and overseas;
6. Seconding teachers to the EDB.
Life-wide Learning (Including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be Provided through Key Learning Areas, Extra-curricular Activities, Co-curricular Activities, etc.) : Our sponsoring body, the YMCA, has a strong international network, which provides our students with plenty of opportunities to participate in international exchange activities. For instance, we participated in the YMCA 175 event held in London, YMCA World Council held in Chiang Mai, a tree-planting activity in the desert areas of Shaanxi, and the YMCA exchange camps with German high school students.
We offer over thirty extra-curricular activities and place emphasis on voluntary services. The implementation of the 'One Student, One Service' volunteer program gives students opportunities for an all-rounded development.
Our school conducts the ‘One Student, One Talent’ programme, fostering students’ multifaceted development across sports, music and visual arts. We organize a school band and a variety of musical instrument classes. Our school band has been a frequent winner of the Gold and Silver Awards in 'Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows Symphonic Band Contest' and 'Joint School Music Competition'. We regularly organize inter-school music camp and joint-school symphonic band concert. We perform outstandingly in sports. We have won numerous awards in different inter-school competitions in the events of track and field, cross country, basketball, volleyball and handball. We have nurtured dozens of Hong Kong team players over the years. Our sports teams including the cycling team, bowling, baseball and especially the handball team continue to make us proud. Cooperating with our sponsoring body, we have established league teams comprising elite athletes from our school. We are staying in the top ranks in various large-scale local sporting events in recent years.
Others : Chinese YMCA College encourages students to pursue their dreams and engage in meaningful endeavours. We are proud and pleased to recognise their achievements in academics, services, sports, etc., through different awards. In particular, over the past few years, about thirty students with outstanding achievements in sports have been either selected to join the Hong Kong sports teams or granted early admissions by universities.

Every year, our school supervisor, Dr. Ronald Lu, sponsors two students with excellent English results to participate in a one-month exchange trip to Europe, the United States, or Australia. In addition, we proudly nominate students for scholarships (such as the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund) and encourage them to challenge themselves in elite training programs organized by universities.

Chinese YMCA College has been actively promoting STEAM education through a series of activities. We take great pride in our students who have been awarded:
• Silver Award in the IT Innovation Competition: Robot Challenge;
• Silver Award in the Underwater Robot Competition organized by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology;
• 1st Runner-up in the Secondary School Solar Remote-controlled Car Design Competition;
• First Prize and Most Creative Award in the Swift Coding Club Hackathon @ Ocean Park Coding Competition;
• Award of Merit in the PolyU CubeSat Mission – Space Debris Removal;
• Award of Merit in the National Identity Mobile App Design Competition;
• Gold Award in the 2nd Maker Cube Robot Competition;
• 1st Runner-up in the Odyssey of the Mind Hong Kong Regional Tournament, advancing to the World Finals in the United States, etc.

Above all, the e-Learning proposal of our school received Silver Awards in both the school division and the individual division of the International Outstanding e-Learning Awards. Our school has also won the Merit Award (Secondary School Category) in the OpenSchool STEM Teaching Plan Competition 2017, the Outstanding STEM School Award, and the Award for Outstanding Institution in Technology Education 2018. Furthermore, three of our teachers were presented with the Certificate of Merit in the Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence (Science Education). These achievements truly reflect our efforts and have gained wide recognition in STEM education.

In addition, to encourage students to learn from experience, our school applies for resources through different channels to arrange overseas exchange activities for students. Exchange destinations include the UK, the US, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, and various provinces in China. A wide variety of activities—such as English workshops, historical and cultural field trips, introductions to different ethnicities, and geographical explorations—inspire our students far more than what a mere classroom or textbook could offer.

Our school has also completed a three-year cooperation with Project Zero, Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. Participating teachers have received scholar training and sought teaching innovations through a professional learning community. They will apply the research results to enhance the quality of teaching and promote the professional growth of the teaching team.
