We are committed to supporting government green policies and continuously improving our campus's energy efficiency and overall environmental performance.
Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy : Our school uses English as the medium of instruction in all subjects except Chinese Language, Chinese History, Putonghua, Religious Studies and Life Education. Apart from that, we also emphasize the teaching Chinese and Putonghua. Through the NET scheme, Chinese and English Reading Across the Curriculum Literacy Programme, Drama curriculum, English Week and Putonghua Activities and overseas study tours, we hope that our students can achieve high levels of proficiency in “biliteracy and trilingualism”.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies : The core of the school's teaching strategy is tailored education, guided by the goal "Leap to Learn Well, Learn to Live Well," which aims to achieve a balance between academic excellence and whole-person development.
In its teaching approach, S1 classes are of mixed ability to build a solid foundation. From S2 onwards, enhancement and parallel classes are established to cater to diverse learning needs. The curriculum is designed to be broad in junior secondary and specialized in senior secondary, offering diverse elective combinations to ensure students can discover their potential and smoothly transition to higher education.
English language education is a key strength of the school. The school implements an immersive teaching approach with innovative methods, such as integrating "Process Drama" into the classroom. It has also established an English Centre and hired additional native-speaking English teachers, which effectively enhances students' interest and abilities, leading to outstanding achievements in public examinations.
The school also proactively promotes "STEAM for All" education, systematically cultivating students' innovative and technological mindset with a curriculum that ranges from basic programming in S1 to advanced courses in AI. Students also have opportunities to represent Hong Kong in international competitions, putting their learning into practice. Furthermore, the school deepens students' humanities through experiential learning, such as field trips and school-based arts courses.
(3) School-based Curriculum : 1. Electives: 3X. According to their interest and abilities, each senior secondary student chooses three elective subjects out of the thirteen subjects. Core subjects like English, Chinese and Mathematics are taught in small groups of about 25 students to enhance the learning effectiveness.
2. Curriculum highlights: The Chinese Language curriculum of our school incorporates elements of Chinese culture into teaching, through reading and writing to cultivate students with traditional Chinese virtues. The S1-S3 school-based English Drama and English Literature curriculum not only increases students’ confidence in English speaking, their creativity and artistic performance ability are also cultivated. Additionally, STEAM education courses are provided to all junior secondary students, where they learn about robotics, coding, 3D printing, etc. Moreover, the school-based Aesthetic Development programme in senior secondary levels offers students diverse learning experiences, nurturing their interests and appreciation in drama, music, art, and film.
(4) Major Renewed Emphases in the School Curriculum : Our school has been constantly upgrading its facilities during the past years to optimize the teaching and learning environment. In 2013, the Indoor Heated Swimming Pool was completed, allowing the pool to be open all year round for classes and swimming team training. In 2014, "True Light Oasis" was opened. The 1/F mainly includes computer rooms and multifunctional learning rooms to facilitate collaborative learning. The 2/F is the Library, equipped with various electronic tools to enhance students' interest in pursuing knowledge and understanding society with a global vision. Since 2014, the school has implemented the "BYOD, Bring Your Own Device" policy, allowing students to bring tablets back to school for classes to enhance interaction and students' independent learning. In 2015, the school was appointed as a Center of Excellence in Information Technology Education, and the school's accomplishments and capabilities in IT education have been recognized by the education sector. In 2021, a STEAM room was established to cultivate students' cross-disciplinary (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths, Arts) and cross-domain thinking, and encourage students to apply different subject knowledge to enhance innovation and problem-solving abilities. Drama education is a major feature of our school's English curriculum, with Process Drama as the core approach. English drama classes are offered from Secondary 1 to 4, using different art forms such as puppetry and sand animation to increase students' interest and confidence in expressing themselves in English. In Secondary 5, students take drama production classes covering areas like directing, acting, costumes, set design, lighting etc. This allows students to write, direct and perform their own English language plays.

For academic and assessment purposes, we provide students in need with adapted learning materials and assessment accommodations, and a special examination room is arranged to ensure fair and valid evaluations. Additionally, we offer targeted support programs, including social skills training for students with social difficulties and a school-based speech therapy service that provides regular individual training for those with speech and language impairments. To ensure our faculty is well-equipped to assist these students, professional speakers are regularly invited to conduct staff development programs.

2. discuss the main problems and mistakes with students after assessments;
3. display and share students’ good works to provide marking guidelines and sample answers.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos

Parents are invited to attend major school functions such as Speech Day, Prize Presentation Day & S.1 Association Inauguration, Sports Day, Swimming Gala, etc. Parents show their support to the development of the school by serving as volunteers. The Parents Teacher Association (PTA) helps to strengthen the link between parents and the school. Every year the Christmas offering to charity organizations and Annual Fun Fair are launched by the PTA. The funds raised are used to support the charity organizations, evangelical bodies and the needy students in the school. Various PTA talks and groups are held by social workers and Student Supporting Team to strengthen parents' practical parenting skills and widen their perspectives when witnessing misbehaviors of their children, which might trigger misunderstanding and conflicting situations. Handicraft workshops, culinary workshops, father-child camps, used book sales and etc. are also organized.
(2) School Ethos : Towards the end of the Qing Dynasty, a young North American female missionary travelled a far distance to Guangzhou with the religious mission to spread Christianity to China. In order to provide Chinese women with education opportunities, she founded the first True Light School in 1872. It was one of the first colleges for women in South China, and Guangzhou. This female missionary is our school founder, Miss Harriet Noyes (1844-1924). Her religious zeal laid the foundations for the school's future development in education. In pursuit of the ideal cherished by our school founder, our school provides a quality Christian education, aiming at inculcating our students with the values embodied in the Bible and preparing them as a generation knowing how to love themselves and others, to distinguish between right and wrong, and to live in integrity and with a good sense of responsibility. True Light places preeminent emphasis on fostering students' moral character and is committed to upholding the school motto "You are the Light of the World". Under a harmonious and friendly school culture, our class teachers, subject teachers and club advisors serve as guides of our students on their path of growth. Guidance and counselling programmes are conducted to help students positively face the challenges ahead and move forward to lead a fruitful life.
