Secondary One Admission, Orientation Activities & Healthy School Life

Secondary One Admission	:	Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2026 ).30% of S.1 places are used for discretionary places. Admission criteria and weightings for S.1 discretionary places: Academic results (Chinese, English, Mathematics, General Studies) 40%, conduct 15%, extra-curricular activities performance 10%, other outstanding performance 10%, interview performance 25%.
Orientation Activities and Healthy Life	:	1. S.1 Bridging Programme is conducted for S.1 students in mid-August. The programme includes introduction to core subjects (Chinese, English and Mathematics), mindfulness, school social workers as well as training on skills necessary for learning. It also helps them understand and adapt to the physiological and psychological changes at different stages of development. 2. Parent-Student Orientation Day is held before the commencement of the school year in order to introduce the mission and daily operation of the school, thus enhancing relationship between the school and parents. 3. School-based cross-country running, Athletics Meet, physical and aesthetic activities, inter-class and inter-house ball competitions, etc. are held every year to train students' physical and mental health. 4. Our school lunch supplier provides students with healthy balanced meals with low fat, low salt, low sugar, high fibre and no trans fat.

School Management
(1) School's Major Concerns	:	1. Cultivating students to be lifelong learners who love our home and treasure our country. 2. Boosting students' confidence and helping students to set a positive, enthusiastic, and healthy life.
(2) School Management Organisation	:	We are the most long-standing government-subsidized grammar secondary school in North District. We are among the first batch of schools to set up an Incorporated Management Committee on 20th August, 2005.
(3) Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee	:	Members of the IMC include the representatives of the Sponsoring Body, School Supervisor, the Principal, parent managers, teacher managers, alumni managers and independent managers. We bear the principles of transparency, accountability and professionalism in educating and nurturing our students.
(4) School Green Policy	:	1. 70% of the school area is zoned "green belt" and is looked after by our gardeners. We have registered arborists to provide professional advice on tree protection. 2. Recycle bins are placed in each classroom and the covered playground. 3. Environmental Protection Ambassadors help enhance students' environmental awareness through morning assemblies and notice boards. 4. We review the use of electricity regularly and air-conditioners are switched on only when the temperature is over 25°C. 5. Learning and Teaching Plan
(1) Whole-school Language Policy	:	1. In some classes of S.1 and S.2, Mathematics is taught in English and ELA is carried out in Science, History and Geography. English teaching materials are provided. 2. In some classes of S.3, Mathematics is taught in English and ELA is carried out in History, Geography, Life and Society (Economics), Chemistry, Physics and Biology. English teaching materials are provided. 3. English groups are offered in some elective subjects for the senior forms.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies	:	1. E-learning is implemented in S.1, S.2 and some classes in S.3. electronic devices, electronic textbooks, online learning platform, electronic whiteboards, etc. are used. Pre-class videos and revision videos help students consolidate their learning. 2. We adopt various teaching strategies to cater for learning diversity and promote self-directed learning. 3. We adopt a student-based teaching policy and conduct a number of classroom activities to encourage students to ask questions and think independently, thus cultivating generic skills among students and achieving the goal of 'Learning to Learn'. 4. Student Learning Survey is held twice a year, so that teachers can follow up on students' learning. 5. We raise professional standards of our teachers by implementing collaborative lesson planning, peer lesson observation and demonstration lessons. 6. Self-regulated learning is implemented in the English Subject so that students can choose what to learn and how to learn according to their interests and learning abilities. It helps enhance their learning motivation and self-efficacy.
(3) School-based Curriculum	:	1. Electives: 2X and 3X. Applied Learning will be offered to students who are in need. 2. Curriculum highlights: (1) After-school English remedial classes will be offered to junior students. After-school remedial classes that focus on HKDSE and English will be offered to senior students. (2) We develop our electronic textbooks, online learning platform and interactive exercises jointly with textbook publishers. (5) Life Planning Education	:	1. Junior forms a. Through subject and committee cooperation and life planning education, students are able to know more about their personalities and interests for their career and life planning. b. Introduce the relationship between jobs and subject selection to students and other education opportunities by conducting related talks, workshops and group counselling. 2. Senior forms a. Conduct job sharing talks, workplace visits, work experience programmes, etc. to help students understand business operations and the requirements of employers. b. To help students select suitable courses and introduce other education opportunities and requirements by conducting various talks.
Student Support
(1) Whole School Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity	:	To align with the implementation of inclusive education of the EDB, we arrange our teachers to receive related training progressively. The stationing of educational psychologists helps to provide assistance to students with special educational needs.
(2) Whole School Approach to Integrated Education	:	We have set up a Student learning Support Committee. Members include Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), two Special Educational Needs Teachers (SENT) and the head of counselling. Our cross-disciplinary team which consists of educational psychologists, social workers, speech therapists, teaching staff help to facilitate early identification of students with special educational needs so that appropriate support can be provided to them. We also design supporting programmes, curriculum and teaching adjustments, examinations and assessments for students with special educational needs in a "Whole School Participation" mode. To support students with different special learning needs, we use learning support grant flexibly, providing different types of learning skills classes, speech therapy services, social training groups, individual educational plans, senior schoolmates counselling programmes. We also work with relevant organizations which provide linguistic and aural assistance. We collaborate with the Pastoral Care Committee to provide advice on learning and teaching and resource management, to cater for the learning needs of students with mental illness and to strengthen mental health education. We promote family-school cooperation, work with parents to support students with special educational needs, maintain good partnerships with parents, strengthen parents' awareness of their children's special learning needs, and empower parents to take care of their children with special learning needs in order to let them grow happily in good health.
(4) Measures to Provide Adaptation for Learning and Assessment	:	1. Two uniform tests and two exams are held every academic year; 2. Assignments, in-class participation and learning journal are also included as part of students' continuous assessment.
Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos
(1) Home-School Co-operation	:	The Parents-Teachers' Association was set up in 1994 and acts as a bridge between the school and parents. Talks and parent-child workshops are often held for parents to facilitate the communication between the School and parents. The volunteer team assists in school events, such as Sports Day and Open Day etc.　 The Association has set up various scholarships and "Education Fund" to sponsor students' learning activities and provide immediate financial assistance to families with urgent needs. Parents can serve as the school managers of the IMC through election to reflect opinions regarding school management and policies.
(2) School Ethos	:	1. We adopt a policy of integrating discipline and counseling and set up the Pastoral Care Committee. 2. To boost students' self-confidence and resilience, school-based life education is carried out in junior forms. 3. An induction programme is offered to newly-arrived students in a bid to help them cope with adjustment problems and learning difficulties.
Future Development
(1) School Development Plan	:	1. We are committed to promoting eLearning. iPads are used in Chinese, English, Mathematics, History, Chinese History, Geography and Science lessons of junior forms. Students can also achieve self-regulated learning through electronic platforms. 2. We strive to promote positive education and develop students' positive mindset through practicing mindfulness and gratitude. 3. The Jockey Club Fung Kai Indoor Swimming Complex will soon be completed.
(2) Teacher Professional Training and Development	:	We strongly encourage our teachers to engage in life-long learning. Apart from training or seminars organized by the EDB or other institutions, school-based Staff Development Days are also held to facilitate sharing of teaching experiences and to promote their professionalism.
Life-wide Learning (Including Five Essential Learning Experiences to be Provided through Key Learning Areas, Extra-curricular Activities, Co-curricular Activities, etc.)	:	1. Our school offers a total of 45 student societies and interest groups, including uniformed groups, academic clubs, sports teams, and arts associations.
